I think Rogers Rugby PPV is 499. When are the replays on Setanta?

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and was wondering if anyone knows why Setanta isn't airing the Saturday 9:15am PT/12:15 pm ET, Premier League match live anymore. For the first month, they had this match live, now on the schedule for the next two weeks, it's replaced with a live Championship match.

Did they lose the rights to this match? Will it be shown somewhere else? According to Live Soccer TV, it's on FSC in the States only.

According to the Setanta website....

Saturday October 20
7:30am
Soccer
EPL Everton v Liverpool (KO 7:45am) LIVE

10am
Soccer
EPL Arsenal v Bolton LIVE

Then the week after, Saturday, October 27:

7:30am
Soccer
Coca Cola Championship Charlton v QPR (KO 7:45am) LIVE

10am
Soccer
EPL Manchester Utd v Middlesbrough LIVE

12:15pm
Soccer
Coca Cola Championship Burnley v Southampton (KO 12:20) LIVE

So there looks to be live EPL soccer this weekend, and 1 EPL game live next Saturday, sandwiched between a couple of live championship games.

I'm not sure what Sportsnet is showing this Saturday...I think the IPG showed it as a Viewer's Choice?

The Score is showing West Ham vs Sunderland live on Sunday as well.

it could have something to do with the scheduling originally in the EPL. There just may not be a game on at that time, lately the schedules have been out of whack with teams playing in Europe on Wednesdays & Thursdays not wanting to play on Saturday & also the TV rights holders dictating kick off times as well. I'm not saying for sure this is the reason, but somebody could look into this.

Thanks for your replies.

I emailed Setanta and they wrote: The 12:15pmET match should be there--they made a mistake on the schedule, so it will be changed. Sorry about that!

Now the schedule has changed to show this for Saturday the 20th:

7:30am
Soccer
EPL Everton v Liverpool (KO 7:45am) LIVE

10am
Soccer
EPL Arsenal v Bolton LIVE

12:15pm
Soccer
EPL Aston Villa v Manchester Utd LIVE

The 27th still doesn't have the EPL match listed yet (Portsmouth v West Ham, 17:15) but it could be a mistake as well.

Based on the online setanta schedule, I think all 10 EPL\BPL games will be on TV this weekend, 8 on Setanta and 1 on RSN and TheScoreHD.

I just noticed that Setanta Sports seems to have finally been approved in Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2007-384:

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Decisions/2007/db2007-384.htm

Its licenced as Sportsnet 2, but its obviously for Setanta so Rogers can stop using their PPV licence and launch the full channel.

But we've had the full channel for a couple of months haven't we? Or is this another Sentanta sports channel. This application seems, as far as I can tell at least, to not be for a PPV channel.

Hmm, odd that they didn't include Aussie-rules football in the list of sports. This would potentially restrict their coverage of that somewhat.

You will find that according to Wikipedia, we have actually been viewing the channel as "Setanta Sports International Pack" operating on Rogers' PPV licence until it got regulatory approval.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Setanta_Sports_%28Canada%29

therefore, I imagine its safe to assume that todays CRTC decision regarding "Sportsnet 2" is the approval they've been after for the official "Setanta Sports" channel.

Not that I trust Wikipedia - but that article says that "a version of Setanta Sports called Setanta Sports International Pack launched on August 10, 2007 as a pay-per-view package, presumably under the auspices of Rogers's occasionally-used Sportsnet PPV licence."

However, the channel on Rogers isn't pay-per-view as far as I know - it certainly doesn't seem to be a PPV channel when you go to 429 (I haven't seen the channel since the free preview). So either the Wikipedia article is erroneous, there is something else going on here, or I'm out to supper.

didn't somebody state that they will be adding a magazine type show in the future? Was this something they needed regulatory approval for?

They must have just called it PPV to get around waiting for the red tape.

Do you trust this, nfitz? Setanta Sports comes to Canada (http://www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/1935/206/)

With a Category 2 license they can show programming in the following categories:

1 News
2 (a) Analysis and interpretation
(b) Long-form documentary
3 Reporting and actualities
5 (b) Informal education/Recreation and leisure
6 (a) Professional sports
(b) Amateur sports
10 Game shows
11 General entertainment and human interest
12 Interstitials
13 Public service announcements
14 Infomercials, promotional and corporate videos

We'll get programs like Inside the SPL, Premier League Review and The Friday Football Show, that are on the US version.

They will also have to produce some Canadian content. I bet we'll see some reruns of Soccercentral, but I think they have to do more than that.

But I'm perplexed at how the existing service on Rogers can be pay-per-view? If you subscribe for $14.99 a month - surely it's not pay-per-view? Do you have to pay more to watch each game?

It's pay-per-view like NHL Centre Ice and NFL Sunday Ticket are. You pay to be able to watch all the games. It fits a CRTC definition of PPV.

The monthly pricing is unusual for PPV, but they wanted to be as similar to the licenced channel as they could, without the licence.

An interesting trick by Rogers ...

Yes you could call Rogers or go on online. Did you notice that the Setanta schedule online is different from the TV guide. The actual program being broad-cast sometimes bears no relevance to either. I wanted to watch the Tottenham-Blackburn scheduled for 12.00 PM today as listed in both the TV guide and online. However, this was switched to the Derby County - Everton game without any notification. How on earth are we to follow the games that we choose to do so. Also, there were so many different EPL games being broad-cast at the start of the season to sucker you into suscribing to Setanta. Lo and behold they are now showing very few games, around 4 or 5 compared to 8 or 9 at the start of the season. They keep on repeating the same matches and also show a lot of Rugby. Why not have the Rugby on a different channel. This is not what I suscribed to. Man United and Chelsea are given VIP treatment and all their games are broad-cast along with their own very biased commentators. Shame on you Setanta!:(

I couldn't agree with you more. I have to say that I am very disappointed even though I waited for the initial rush at the start of the season to end in order to be able to assess what you were about to get for your money. It certainly is a different story now. I don't know whose fault it is but the EPG for Setanta is very questionable and unreliable. I shall have to find another source in order to be able to set up the PVR for recording selected matches. So far I have watched far better games on Fox Sports than anything on Setanta for no additional fee.
