It was a Setanta issue. A friend had the US feed and it was doing the same.

I think there is a common factor here, for some reason. As I can see, it never occurs with a Setanta-produced program e.g. recently Kilmarnock v Dundee United, Newcastle v Aston Villa and Aberdeen v Celtic. It certainly occurs when they show a Sky- produced match e.g, Man City v Man United.

While it was nice to see the England vs. France rugby games over the last two weekends on Setanta it is very disappointing that we will not see other RWC warmup games such as Scotland vs. South Africa and Wales vs. France this weekend.

Well, it would have been nice to see the England v Germany friendly international, which I reasonably expected to be on Setanta, but despite all their claims the recorded version was on later at very inconvenient times and I have had to record it but have yet not found the time to view it.

It's becoming more obvious that you can't take for granted that once you subscribe to Setanta that you can rest assured that you will gain coverage of all the professional soccer games that are televised.

I believe FSC has rights to England games this year and to FA Cup but Setanta takes each of these after this season.

setanta schedule still not up to speed. Although not shown on Canadian schedule I have seen elsewhere that Tues pm is Carling Cup Bristol City v West Ham and Wed is Bristol Rovers v Man City. I understand it should be operational by end of month.

Not really. It makes no mention of Carling Cup games, but the Setanta Canada schedule has just been updated and shows that both the West Ham and Man City Carling Cup games are being shown live on Tues and Wed respectively.

If anyone at Setanta reads this, please no more score updates. I'm sure 90% of your viewers have internet and if they want they can find these updates. If I know the score why would I watch the replays later that day?

Knowing the score has never stopped me from watching any soccer game. I'm interested more in seeing how the teams played, how certain players excel when others don't, and to get some idea of what to expect when they get to play my favourite team. Thankfully there's more to a soccer match than just the score, even if it turns out to be 0-0 !

I know that and I will watch the games anyways but I'd much rather preffer to not know the score. Yes, I have seen tons of great scoreless games. I am not watching the games to find out the score I just want to see soccer!! But it's a lot better if I don't know the score. Get my point now?

I believe this may have already been discussed in this thread. Sentata's feed comes through Setanta IR (Ireland) which is a seperate company and which does usually advise of other scores. Setanta Canada has no control over this and won't be able to eleiminate it or have a warning. Same goes for the feeds they use from Sky.

.....but you get a "warnig" that a score update is appearing so enough time to close your eyes or stretch out a hand to 'block' that part of the scree. That's what I do.

"thefly" seems to have the inside track to Setanta. Can he say what the latest is with the proposed updated schedule? Also, when is the magazine-type programming likely to appear? I had read somewhere that this was linked with an application by Rogers for another channel and that this was to be heard by CRTC last Monday. Any word on this?
Thanks, much appreciated.

Not really much of an "inside track" but this is what I do know:

1. Schedule is supposed to be fully up and running by beginning of September. The do have the next few days online here:

http://130.94.23.190/SSCDN_live_schedule.htm

2. Setanta cannot currently show "magazine" type shows etc or their own in-house produced highlight review shows etc. as their current PPV license only allows for streaming games.

3. Rogers currently have a license for a "all soccer & rugby" channel. The joint venture agreement made between Setanta and Rogers is that Rogers they will jointly apply to have the current PPV "channel" changed over to the Rogers license. This would then allow for Setanta to begin showing "magazine" style shows. As for an ETA the last I heard was late this year early next.

Hope this helps

I had an e mail reply last week from Setanta re the "magazine shows they told me that they were awaiting CRTC aproval and the hoped to have it by November/December.

I for on wish they would do a better job of sticking to the advertised schedule. I have recorded several rugby programs only to find a soccer game being shown instead. I am not relying on Shaw's schedule but rather the Setanta website and it's still wrong. I am getting nervous about the RWC - I just hope they show the games as per their schedule.
