Okay, so which game will be shown on CBOT-DT this Saturday, the TO game in HD or the Ottawa game in SD. The reason I ask is that sometimes SD programming shown on HD channels can look good.....depending of course on what happens to the signal between the camera and the antenna.

As I understand the rules, the 14 hours refers to programs. Commercials within a program are considered to be part of the same show.

So if the commercials are considered to be part of the program, and if the commercials (and the show) are the same, the program is considered to be the same but if the commercials are different, the program is considered to be different? Do I have this correct, or am I mis-interpeting what you are saying?

The question remains, does CBOT insert their own commercials on HD and WS broadcasts that are simalcast on CBOT-TV so that it will be considered the same program?

Other than the hockey example provided, when else might we see "supplementary programming?" Do you ever come close to the 14 hours?

PS. What is the status of the 2nd HD truck? The HNIC scehdule only shows one HD game each week for the entire season. Is that just the CBC being conserviative or is it not likely going to be ready this year?

Rogers channel listing for Ottawa lists the CBC-HD channel as being CBOT-DT. Last night I briefly watched the news at 6:00 pm. The news was in fact the Toronto local news not the Ottawa local news. Does this mean that Rogers incorrectly provided the Toronto CBC-HD feed in Ottawa or that CBOT-DT can not or chose not to broadcast its own local product?

roger1818 Forget about commercials. They are not part of the 14 hours. It doesn't matter if SD and HD commercials are the same or not.

I don't know of any upcoming supplementary programming.

No word the second HD truck. What you see in the schedule is probably realistic.

Andrew - Rogers have reasons for doing what they do, but you will have to ask them directly.

Mark, I see that the HD listings for next week now have the early morning hours - thank you. However, there is no watch that I have that has 2900 hrs marked on it. ;)

I would prefer 0500 or 5AM. There is also no need for 3000 or beyond, since that corresponds to 0600, which is on the next day.

http://www.cbc.ca/hdtv/schedule/CBC_HD_nextweek.pdf

Perhaps the 2900 is used because in broadcasting the day starts at 0600, so if there's no easy way to "renumber" the 2500-2900, I'm sure we can figure it out, but it seems weird.

I see that next week there are roughly 37 hours of WS and 12 hours of HD, some of which are repeats. Thanks.

The 30 hour clock has been used in transmission ever since I've been with the Corp. I don't know the history behind it. For all I know it started in 1936. The 24 hour clock is used everywhere else.

I'm surprised it made it to the website. I will pass it on.

I used to work in technical at CBCTV and I never came across a 30hr clock. Until it was mentioned here I'd never heard of it.

Does anyone have a problem when they are watching hockey games on CBC HD on Bell. It always pixalates on me every few seconds and is unwatchable. This is driving me nuts.

Was looking at some of Doctor Who last night, which is SD-widescreen. Though it looked very good - better than last year I thought. Is this still 480i anamorphic widescreen, or did someone figure out how to get a hold of the original 576i material?

I agree, Dr. Who looked very good. I don't normally watch the programme, but recorded last nights because of the interesting description.

Dr. Who is anamorphic.

Dr. Who is anamorphic. There was some discussion in the UK when it aired there, that the overuse of filters in the first season had ended, and the picture was clearer there ... I guess that's what we are seeing here too. It's amazing how good a 480i anamorphic picture actually looks if done properly!

Any word on Torchwood, the adult-oriented Doctor Who spinoff that CBC is involved in? It starts running in England later this month, and is full HD rather than SD.

I haven't seen anything firm so far, but it appears Torchwood will be widescreen.

I haven't seen anything firm so far, but it appears Torchwood will be widescreen.SD-widescreen instead of HD? That would be unfortunate given that BBC have been touting (http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/bbcworldwide/worldwidestories/pressreleases/2006/09_september/bbcw_evil_mipcom.shtml) CBC as co-producers, and that BBC have also announced that Torchwood is "filmed in HD" (http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/wk43/unplaced.shtml#unplaced_torchwood).

I'd guess that we are unlikely to see Torchwood on CBC until after Christmas. Perhaps it's not too late for that enquiries on the HD availability might lead to us actually getting in HD?

CBC is making some progress with the high definition this year.... lots of shows including Venture Schemes and Dreams (?) look to be in high def
