: CBC-HD Official Thread (No Hockey)
Hearing echo-ing in a commercial on CBLT OTA at 8.53 pm eastern during commercial break on 22 Minutes.
I quickly checked the commercials at the 53 minute mark and didn't notice any particular echo. (I don't usually watch commercials, but because I had read this quote before watching the programme, I thought I'd have a quick scan.)
For the final segement of 22 minutes last night on CBCT, the sound was mostly gone. It cut in briefly and then for good for the end of the segment... This didn't occur on the Toronto airing of 22 Minutes.
Recording channel 514 Rogers.
Jase88 2011-12-01, 01:19 AM Caught the hollow/echo issue via CBLT Toronto over-the-air during the second segment of Jeopardy this evening.
This didn't occur on the Toronto airing of 22 Minutes.
I couldn't find it either.
thegman 2011-12-01, 07:50 PM Double Jeopardy tonight has it as well.
BGY11 2011-12-20, 07:54 PM I've been noticing this going on for several weeks now, and was curious if others are seeing this.
While watching Wheel of Fortune on CBUTDT (Ch 602 on Telus Optik TV in Alberta), I am noticing that whenever there's a prize puzzle, the audio appears to have an echo to it (almost sounds robotic). While it may seem odd that it happens during a prize puzzle, it's the one time when CBC throws an overlay over the SPIN ID winning code (stating that it's only open to US residents).
Anyone know if there's something we can do to get CBC to fix this, or do we have to live with it? It seems they are modifying the signal a bit to add their overlay, and are doing something else that's causing the audio glitch.
CamDAB 2011-12-27, 02:54 PM Something sure went awry between Cogeco and CBC Toronto for the complete Coronation Street episode.
Friday December 23rd
The computer PVR correctly recorded 18:00 -> 18:30 from Vision, audio and video as they should be.
Then at 18:30 the IR blaster correctly changed channels to CBC Toronto. The file for that recording showed the box change-over and guide overlay that the Cogeco box outputs, but this time it was over a black background. Guide showed Coronation Street, 6:30pm and description. During the whole hour of darkness, there was no "box report" of difficulty with channel reception (which normally happens when a channel can't be received by the cable box). No audio at all. 1 hour of blackness...
Anyone else notice this?
And this was the SD channel, 06, not the HD version. Can't vouch for that...
Just now getting to the recorded material while away...

FYI The logger shows pictures and sound for the full show. I saw it live as well.
BGY11 2011-12-27, 07:46 PM Today it was Round 3 of Wheel of Fortune (not the Prize Puzzle this time) where the hollow/echo sound was present.
I think it may have always been the third round - the prize puzzle is usually that round so that's why I always thought it was related.
CamDAB 2011-12-28, 12:22 AM Hi Mark,
Monday's recording (Corrie) (Dec 26th) had breakup roughly 23 minutes into it. Again it looked like Cogeco breakup.
The recording of Corrie is moving to OTA as of next Monday, so this nonsense will come to an end.
When OTA becomes more reliable than a BDU... Something ain't right...

This does not appear to be a CBC issue since no one else is reporting these problems and as Marc stated in post 967. If you wish to discuss further, please use the Cogeco forum, the appropriate PVR thread.
Hi Mark,When OTA becomes more reliable than a BDU... Something ain't right...
I'd say the opposite is true. The strength of BDUs is the ability to deliver distant stations. That takes a lot of hardware. More parts mean more potential failures.
Drifting off topic...:)

Just channel surfed by CBLT-DT 5.1 a few moments ago (a couple of moments from the end of WoF) and Pat Sajak's voice sounded more like Darth Vader's than his own.
Jase88 2011-12-30, 09:38 PM On a hunch, I tried using the SAP button on my CM7000-Pal when I encountered echo during a portion of "Jeopardy" this evening. The echo disappeared on the alternate audio channel...
dalmond 2011-12-31, 12:05 AM I also noticed echo-y speech on Jeopardy Friday evening. But only during one segment.
wgauci 2012-01-22, 09:57 AM Anyone having problems with Cori. St. over the last week with major audio dropouts and picture freezing for seconds at a time every couple of minutes?
CamDAB 2012-01-22, 11:02 PM This last week I edited both a Cogeco feed (SD) and an HD OTA feed from CBLT-DT Toronto. Although there were some odd endings at the end of some segments going into advertising, both feeds edited fine. (fixed HD problems mentioned elsewhere).
Today watched the compiled Corrie from OTA on re-recordable DVD widescreen. Looked great. :-)

roger1818 2013-02-09, 04:18 PM I went to http://www.cbc.ca/frequency/index.html and strangely it still seems to list CBC's old analog transmitters (but not the digital ones). In Ottawa it not only lists 4 (CBOT) but also 6 (CBMT) from Montreal. In London, it still lists 40 (CBLN-TV). Someone needs to update this list!
tvlurker 2013-02-10, 02:52 AM Good luck trying to get the CBC to fix the web page. I first started over six years ago just to get the digital stations listed.
