HD PQ on Anne Murray "Friends & Legends" was outstanding this evening (Nov 16/08). It looked fabulous on my Pioneer plasma.

The Santa Clause 2 is currently on CBC HD but is not in HD. ABC showed it in HD on the weekend so it is available. Wouldn't CBC just get it from them? Glad I watched it on ABC.

We just can't win LOL

Many great Christmas movies and animation are on different channels.

eg The Polar Express was on ?CBS, 16:9 HD and I watched it but missed out recording it.

Then it was on CBC on the weekend - aired in correct aspect ratio but it didn't look like it was in HD:confused:

Marc,

When you go to Find your channel and frequency (http://www.cbc.ca/frequency/?ON) on the CBC website, for Ottawa it says:

antenna 6
Star Choice 303
cable 8
antenna 4

6 is obviously totally wrong (it is Global) and there is no mention of CBOT-DT on 25.

...and for completeness, CBOT is also carried on Bell TV on channel 208.

Thanks. I'll pass it on.

I'll Be Home For Christmas with JT Thomas and Jessica Biel is currently on CBC HD and while in HD it's all jumpy and stuttering. The good news is the commercials are the same!! CBC SD looks fine.

8pm: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is the same. It's unwatchable. Too bad CBC can't get their act together.

This evening I was surprised to find Mickey's Christmas Carol was in WS and what looked like HD. That is until it returned from the final commercial break. After the break the program was SD 4:3.

tomm4004,
I checked Rogers and Bell TV about 20 minutes after your first post. Things looked fine at the time. This morning I checked the CRTC air checks for Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal HD. I couldn't find the problem you described in either movie.

Marc

It was HD. A problem was discovered with the last segment. The operations centre covered by upconverting the SD version.

Marc,

I'm on Rogers in London. It was only on CBC. Everything else was perfect. The only other thing I watched on CBC this weekend was skiing on Saturday and it was fine.

I don't know what to say. I checked with Audience Relations too. There were no similar complaints over the weekend.

Jeopardy tonight did it. The Border is doing it right now. Stuttering and the sort. Perhaps my TV just doesn't like CBC. Right now it's not the video so much as the audio, although there is some pixelization. But the audio is really stuttering. Drag since I was really forward to the season finale of The Border.

The Border is completely unwatchable. Can anyone please explain why I'm the only one affected? And why it's the only station affected?

The Border looks good here in Calgary on Shaw, it might be a problem with Rogers

Another thing is that overall quality was not that good. It didn't appear to be HD like previous weeks, although it was 16:9. So I waited until 10pm and watched it on channel 130 SD. Again, it was in 16:9 and the quality was the same as on the HD channel. So that leads me to believe that the HD version was not in HD. So I'm confused.

I hate to rub it in but neither I'll be Home for Christmas nor Mickey's Christmas Carols had any problem in my recorded OTA ATSC programs and they are of really good quality. The Mickey Carols stayed 16:9 (actually with very very narrow black bars on the side ?16:10 LOL) throughout the whole show. There is no jerkiness on I'll be Home.

tomm4004,

Sounds to me like you are having a problem with marginal signal strength. This can sometimes manifest itself on only a few (or one) channels. Complain to Rogers and they should be able to fix it, though they may need to do a service call to add an amplifier.

I'm watching the National on CBOT-DT OTA in Ottawa, and the audio seems to lead the video by about a second or so. Is this a CBC issue, or is it my tuner?
(I'm using an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid on a laptop, so it is possible)

CBOT-DT audio out of sync?
I'm watching the National on CBOT-DT OTA in Ottawa, and the audio seems to lead the video by about a second or so.

I reported this to CBC Audience Relations this morning, as it was still happening, but by the time Operations called back at 10:00, the problem seemed to have fixed itself.

The MPEG encoder had a problem. It has been reset.
