They are rare. I know a Hockey Hall of Fame commercial has run in HD. Putting them into the list is a bit of work. It has to be done manually due to the routing requirements. An automated method will be the norm, but there are few things that have to be done before that can happen. The placement within a break doesn't make much difference from a technical point of view.

There have been reports of audio problems on CBLT-DT Toronto HD over the past few days.

1. Thursday, April 10 to midday Saturday: Prologic sound instead of Dolby Digital.
The carrier had an encoder issue. It has been corrected.

2. Saturday, April 12 - Loss of audio during hockey.
This was due to equipment failure at a distributor's site. It has been corrected.

Both problems were isolated to the individual cable or satellite company and were not production related. CBC was transmitting Dolby Digital 5.1 (or 2 active channels within 5.1) at all times.

I thought I had posted this earlier...
Coronation Street has been bumped from its weekday slot during the playoffs, but if you can't wait for Sunday, it's available online (http://www.cbc.ca/coronation/). It has been very popular with the fans.

The picture on CBOT-TV (analog broadcast) is being panned up, causing the top to be cropped a bit and a small black bar on the bottom. It is most noticable on letterboxed programming as you get a thin black bar at the top and a thick black bar on the bottom. In the hockey game last night it caused the scoreboard to be sligtly cropped on one of my older TVs. I just checked about half an hour ago and the problem is still there.

There was a problem with the fibre running from Toronto to Ottawa's transmitter which caused the picture to shift. It has been corrected.

It would help to know which CBC station you are trying to receive (or the city). How you are receiving the station would also be helpful (antenna, cable or satalite). If using an antenna, if it is the analog or digital broadcast you are having troubles with, otherwise the name of your service provider (though most likely it would be an issue with the service provider and not CBC).

Im sorry, im in London Ontario, cbc HD is 513. All i get is a grey screen but all other channels are fine. I called rogers and they said its probably cause my signal is low, yet like I said all other channels are fine. I moving on saturday so its not a problem yet but very weird. HDGlobal is also like this.

biggyk, The person at Rogers you talked to is right and the signal they are providing you is too weak. It isn't uncomon for signal strength issues to affect some channels and not others. However, we are getting off thread here so I will leave it at that.

Marc. The Nature of Things (Lynx programme) was on this evening, 8PM I believe, however, the first half of the hour was shown windowboxed, with the last half hour shown properly. Sound was DD5.1, however, only LF & RF working, which may have been the way it was produced...

That was caused by a data entry error. It was only seen that way in Toronto.

Back in December I wrote:Aren't CBC ever going to fix their schedule on their website? It's been weeks since I've been able to see what was coming up.Half-a-year later schedule still rarely works. E.g. http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/schedule/dailySchedule.jsp?network=CBC%20Television&genre=&startDate=2008/05/14&startTime=18:00&endTime=25:00

Will CBC ever fix this? A year or two ago it worked great! I'm tired of seeing:

It has often been erratic for me to. I can go to the site sometimes without issue and sometimes it takes forever....

Marc: "I'm told Torchwood is gone altogether."

Unlikely. A second season of 13 episodes has already aired in the UK, so the show did return. The question is whether or not CBC will show Season Two. Since they're holding back "Doctor Who" Series Four until the Fall this year (September 19th) because of the Olympics in August, it's possible that "Torchwood" Series Two is being held back until next Spring (and could air on Friday nights again, after "DW" finishes in that timeslot).

Hopr that helps. :)

Marc: "I'm told Torchwood is gone altogether."

Unlikely. Marc works for CBC, and is yet to lead us astray on these things. Clearly CBC hasn't purchased series 2 of Torchwood.

Odd - next Tuesday it seems that CBC is airing a delayed broadcast of the 7:30 pm Montreal Impact/Toronto FC soccer game at midnight - in favour of repeats of Rick Mercer? At least according to my Rogers IPG - and the listings on CBC's site yesterday when it was working (not working again today).

A 4.5 hour delay in broadcasting a soccer game in favour of repeats??

I'm guessing they either want to lure us over to Bold (live on their cable channel) or they don't have the balls to prempt local/late news (depending on timezone). They should at least show it live on the main network in Toronto and Montreal ????? I have already complained to audience relations.

It has been listed this way (live on Bold, tape delay on main network) on the Toronto FC Broadcast schedule (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/torontofc-schedule.html) for a while now (from the beginning?). I susspect when planning the schedule they didn't know if there would be a hockey game that night so they decided to show it on Bold.

I was watching the Soccer Day in Canada stuff on CBC that I recorded (didn't see it live, as I was at the game at BMO Field).

I found it odd that the pre-game material was hosted live (or almost live) from BMO Field from noon to 3:30 pm, and was (I think) in SD Widescreen. But the game itself was only 4:3 from 3:30 to 6:00 pm.

I thought the issue about broadcasts being in 4:3 was a lack of widescreen or HD trucks. But if the truck was at BMO Field for the live broadcast from noon to 3:30, why not keep using it until 6 pm?

Though at this point in the conversion, with all the news programming, and much of the other programming in 16:9, isn't it time to bite the bullet and replace any of the remote equipment that can only do 4:3? (don't get me wrong, CBC has done a great job in going HD - beats the other national networks by a mile).
