I just hit channel 410, The Golf Channel, on my digital box, and it's GONE. There is the notice giving me a number to call. The channel was on last night.

I thought they were giving us a year before they cut it off? No notice or anything.

UPDATE: I called Rogers to add TGC and cancel MeTV (since I only got it for TGC). She said that TGC was free for one year if you have Ultimate Pack, which I do. I said that it vanished today. She said it was a "glitch" and that I would get it free. I said, "but people have to call first?" She didn't answer that, but just said that it would be up in five minutes (it was). So will people who don't call get it back tomorrow or not? It was confusing.

If I dumped MeTV I would then have to pay for TGC, but I'd probably come out $10 ahead. I wonder if they're even set up for that. I'll keep it for now since there's no overall price increase and I can watch Battlestar Galactica in the fall, and I do watch the odd movie on History Channel.

Another thing: I gave her my name and phone number, but she said that she didn't have that number so I had to give her my address. I have a Rogers phone!

No luck here, were getting the unauthorized message on 410, called in, and said they would not give it to us for free. Mainly for the fact "you had your 3 months free all digital earlier" (which is in fact true, got a hdtv around xmas, and got the rogers starters pack).

I was not in the mood this morning to fight, so I just gave up, maybe later today I'll call back and try to stick it to them. :/

What is the Ultimate pack? We have all the analog channels + the HD stations, does that qualify? Maybe I can use that as firepower next time I call.

I never really cared for the golf channel and did'nt miss it when it moved to higher digital channels. I can understand why some people had it before are frustrated though. Now the Fight Network thats my favorite a real sport.

It's odd, at a golf forum one poster said that they got it free for two years, another for three months, and two not at all. There doesn't appear to be any consistency or logic behind it.

The 3 months free is due to a promotion at the moment, if you have not subscribed to a specific theme pack before you qualify to try it out for free for 3 months. This is available to new and existing customers. So if you never subscribed to the sports theme pack, you could take it (wich now includes TGC) for 3 months free.

The 1 or 2 years free I can't explain maybe depends on the rep you reach and their mood?

Bob Weeks, who writes a blog for Score Golf Magazine, wrote that he returned home yesterday and had a message from Rogers saying that they had "audited" his account and discovered that he should get Golf Channel free for one year and not just three months! (maybe they discovered who he was)

I thought the recent move of the golf channel was just so it was on digital format. Of course not long after I find my golf channel is not authorized. I frequent a golf discussion forum and there was lots of talk of people getting it free for a year. One guy says he got 2 years. So I call up a CSR anf start fighting for the right to have it free for 2 years. I get passed around from department to department getting told that they don't have the authority to give me 2 free years that I'd only get one. I was getting to the point where they were wearing me down, so finally I said, "ok, whatever, turn it on for a year then" So the CSR says, just "one moment" and puts me on hold. I'm on hold for about 7 or 8 minutes, starting to get really annoyed. He then comes back and says "I discussed this with my supervisor and we are going to give you 2 free years of the golf channel". So thats great for me. But I wonder how these other people feel only getting a year.

One digital channel on Rogers costs roughly $30 for a year. Significantly less if it's part of a bundle. Most people don't feel it worth their time and aggravation to spend a bunch of time on the phone with a CSR for that amount. Some people do.

Exactly the attitude Rogers is hoping for.

Of course, you also get FREE golf lessons on Rogers On Demand.

Golf was never "free"; it was bundled with other analog tier channels. Now it's available in the sports package. With the money Rogers saves, maybe we'll see TCM someday! Not being a golfer, that works for me. ;)
