EdT, have a look at the diagram in Post #77. I don't understand why you say it doesn't apply to your situation.

stampeder: I basically have both coax from the Sat and OTA at the back of my TV. The coax from the Sat receiver goes to my TV and the OTA coax is straight from the OTA antenna. I currently use an A/B switch to either watch OTA or Sat broadcasts. The OTA coax is not connected to my Sat receiver. My dish(BUD) is not on my roof where the OTA antenna is so there is no need for a diplexer.

I see, that's clearer now - I agree that an A-B switch is your best option then.

Edt, doesn't your Sat reciever have a RCA video output or an SVHS output that you could use and connect just the antenna to the coax input on the TV so then you could switch inputs on the TV with the remote?

okmed: yes, my Drake ESR 5024 has RCA ouput jacks, right now they are connected to my VCR/DVDR if I want to record something. I would basically still have to connect the RCA composite connections to a selector box with a line to my TV which I already have for using my VCR and secondary DVD player.

I was thinking of something more seamless so I don't have to flip an A/B switch everytime I want watch between the OTA and dish.

Something more seamless might be a Harmony Remote controlling everything along with a Radio Shack (U.S.) remote controlled A-B switch.

MythTV, plus a self-built coax switch. :)

EdT, let me see if I understand your situation correctly. You only have an RF input on your TV so you are RF modulating the satilite programming on either channel 3 or 4.

If so, there are several options.

If your satilite receiver has an antenna input, you could connect your anenna to that. It will then either have an tuner internal to it or pass through the signals to the RF output.
You could use an external RF modulator. Most will automatically turn on when it detects a signal from the satilte receiver and turn off (passing through the RF broadcasts) when the receiver is turned off.
Use a signal injector to inject the channel 3 or 4 signal while passing all other channels from the antenna.

I have a two antenna set up and want to amp one antenna, thus I need a splitter (used in reverse) or coupler. Winegard and Antennas Direct have splitters/couplers with a power pass port. I'm thinking of using the W pre-amp HDP-269 since I don't want anything too powerful. The W coupler is more expensive- which one is recommended/experiences with these?

goforit:

Pico Macom makes a 2:1 splitter with good isolation and return loss figures with dc-pass on one port only.

I can't speak for the Winegard or Antennas Direct one however. Are they expensive? You can compare their specs to this one.

I bought this Pico Macom one but have yet to install on my setup.

I'm looking to get an A/B coax switch because I am wanting to run both cable and OTA to my TV. The TV only has 1 coax input(Panasonic px77u). What is the best kind of switch for my requirements? I know for splitters it is recommended to get the ones that you can get free from Shaw. I don't want to get too much of a loss as the cable signal is coming from 1:2 splitter already (Antronix 3.5db). The one's I have seen so far are 2 different ones from a local store, both require me to walk up to the stereo cabinet, open it up and manually switch the inputs.

battsup, the perfect solution for you is in Post #299

Are there any companies that make splitters the compensate for the dB loss or a "lossless splitter" if you can call it that ?

I don't really need a drop amp, but something that just equalizes the loss from the splits.

Distribution amps (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=42426) are specifically for that, EdT.

Every online site I know of are out of stock on cm pre-amps. Then the one's on Ebay are way over priced! Anyone know what the deal is? Just about all the antenna gear I like and own is either discontinued or out of stock!

Not sure where you are located but in the Toronto gta preamp should be in stock.

Call and check around.

I know the distributors have as I got 6 a week ago.

Good luck.

4evermo you might have to check the Canadian suppliers like Yaamom and our site sponsor, Saveandreplay.com since it looks like your U.S. suppliers have run out!

What is the benefit of putting the pre-amp power injector after (just before the TV) a coupler that has power pass on one port?

As opposed to putting the power injector before the coupler.

If its just one of these standard couplers (the one on the top of the photo) then there will not be any difference putting the power injector on either side of it:

http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/images/attenuator.jpg

If all the OTA gear between the power injector and the preamp allows DC POWER PASS then its simply a matter of convenience as to where an AC outlet is for powering the DC injector unit.

No.

It's the Winegard CC7870 Coupler that specifically alllows power pass on one port.
