Except I'm using a good quality PCT amplifier by Channel Master.

No split, antenna 6 foot cable to PCT amp, 75 foot cable to TV. Huge 75 foot run on top of that (antenna in back of house, tv is in front :) All RG6 of course.

I *still* find it rather odd that the best pre-amps on the market (made by Research Communications) are not shown at all in the chart in post #1.

Peculiar, that.

mlord, didn't holl_ands (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/member.php?u=57374) respond in this thread to that? I'll look back when I get a chance.

yuprules,

I only have about 30 ft of cable before the tv...so i dont think i'll benefit...

I assume then your amp is placed outside...

The PCT amplifier is water tight so it CAN be put outside (since you power it through coax), but my antenna is mounted indoors as I'll be moving and didn't bother mounting it outdoors.

Ebay feedback, when you find an auction to the RIGHT of the username of the person's auction is a NUMBER, every auction adds a number (942 = 942 auctions). You click on that NUMBER and see how many positive and negative feedbacks they ahve.

If the number is like under 10 (10 = 10 auctions) it means they only have 10 feedbacks/auctions/sales...avoid since they don't have much feedback yet.

I don't think the channel master branded ones are meant for outside use, double check!

Mmm.. lots of good info and stuff, but 3dB is hardly the best noise figure available in that price range.

I helped jocoman with his GH10 installation the other day, complete with Spartan UHF/VHF pre-amp.

We got down off the roof and had our first look at reception -- great signals, but a lot of "sparkles" on VHF-6 and some of the other channels as well. Strange..

Went back up and switched on the built-in FM-trap of the Spartan, and everything cleared up nicely. That's peculiar to me -- I remember FM interference being mostly diagonals and the like, not sparkes!

Cheers

I get that sparkles too- channel 49.1 (v34.1) WNYO Buffalo- using a 7778 and a 4228HD.

Hope it's nothing sinister...

If any of the FM stations in Ottawa are using RDS the sparkling effect might be caused by that data stream... just a guess since I've never come across it before.

BALM: They are the same QUALITY, not the same model at all.
