Welcome to the forum!

What kind of connector ends do you have on your RG6 coax cable?

Do nothing for 48 hours. Things will be transitioning in the next two days and you might see an improvement. Once the digital transition is completed, then we'll work on further troubleshooting for you.

Once all of the Toronto stations have transitioned, go back up on your roof and re-aim experimenting with turning your antenna away as far to the east as possible away from the CN Tower until you start losing Toronto channels. See where the sweet spot is where you maximize your US results without losing anything from Toronto.

Again wait until Sept 1 to do this.

Good luck and report back. Future readers in the Annex will be helped by your report.

Thanks for the quick response!
I'll definitely wait till sept 1 then, see what comes up, 19.1 just came on line for tvo a couple days ago, i'm sure more will pop up!
As for the connectors, I've got Zenith gold plated compression connectors (radial quad shield rg6), and a crimping tool for attaching.
Thanks again!

whoops, meant to add this to the previous post.
I'm only about 5-10 degrees off the cn tower to aim at ABC beyond buffalo, have tried approx 5 degree increments from 148 degrees (just west of the CN Tower) to about 160 (directly at the lake parallel with the north/south roads) when I start losing US stations, I've never gone far enough to lose Toronto stations though.

Mikeyt,

You're very close to the CN Tower. I'd just try ignoring Toronto altogether and focus on finding your best results with the American channels. Chances are very good that you'll get every Canadian channel completely off the side of your antenna. It might even reduce chances of overload from Toronto in case it's a problem.

Wait until Sep 1 to do this.

Keep rescanning because lots of change will occur in the next day or two.

Report back.

'Did you have signal on RF 9 Analog prior to Aug 31 2011?
How did the picture look? If quality was bad then your setup needs to be fixed or a proper antenna needs to be purchased."

I am in Scarborough the Toronto ZOO is my back yard, and i can identify with the statement above,i use to get CFTO ON rf 40.1 AND since they switched to RF9 i am unable to get it so i have to reconfigure my system what a pain.

Hello everyone
I am using a CM 4228 HD POINTING directly south using an antra pre amp and i have NO problems with most of the Buffalo channels, but the Toronto channels seems to be a problem, especially those VHF High CHCH and CFTO.I am not able to get them anymore. When they were on UHF,i had no problem, but now nothing!I am facing southwest so i have a good look at the CN Tower. Can anyone suggest any possible route i can take to get these channels back.Any input is much appreciated.

Can you provide exact model of pre-amp and height off the ground for the antenna?

dh1s13 -- Ditch the preamp. If it's the PAU18, it's UHF only. It probably doesn't pass VHF signals, so it will kill 7, 9, 10, and 11.

Hi
The model of the pre amp is ANTRA AT- PI18 and the antenna is facing southwest on the outside of my townhouse on the 3rd floor.

That's the part number for the power inserter. I bet you the actual preamp is the UHF-only PAU18. I can't find any reference on the web to any other Antra-branded preamp.

I don't want to quote the link where this came from. Note all the grammar and spelling errors:
Manufacturer: Made in China
Model: AT-PAU18
LOW NOISE PRE-AMPLIFIER
Package Include:

AT-PAU18 Pre-Amplifier x 1, zip tire included
AC120V/DC12V/100mA power adapter x 1, cord length: 5 FT
AT-PI18 Power inserter x 1
Use guide

Yup! those overseas manufacturer translations can get tricky;)

Maybe all preamps should come with a "zip tire" just in case you get a flat tire on the way home. :p

Yeah I would recommend removing that pre-amp and connecting it to a single TV and seeing how your local stations signal strength's look like. It could be the fault of that pre-amp.

TV Lurker,ur probably right cause that ATPI18 cant be found anywhere on the internet and it keeps referring back to the AT-PAU18,so i would have to disconnect the outside amp and see what happens.I will post my reply as soon as i can make the changes. Thanks for all the replies

And don't forget to "Use guide", which I suppose is a polite way of saying "RTFM (http://www.acronymfinder.com/RTFM.html)" ;)

Is anyone in the downtown area able to get CKVR (rf10) now that they've switched to digital? I know that I definitely won't be able to pick it up without improving my VHF setup. I'm just curious whether it's possible..

3 thoughts that come to mind for me are:

1. I wonder whether those Antra pre-amps are much noisier than Channel Master or other brands of pre-amps? The retail price alone suggest that the Antra pre-amps probably aren't of the build quality of other manufacturers.
2. 4228's are very directional for UHF at least. I wonder whether you wouldn't get better results for Canadian stations with a 4221.
3. Does the Antra amplifier allow the VHF frequencies to pass through? And if so, does it amplify those frequencies? The specifications on its site make no claims that that amplifier handles those frequencies.

I vote for door number three.

As for door number 1 the amp specs claim a Noise Figure comparable to CM et al.

I agree that door number 3 is probably the answer. However regarding door number 1, what body actually enforces the specifications advertised by these electronics manufacturers?
