You can use the Search This Thread tool to the upper right beside Thread Tools and put in local street names as search terms, and if there are results already posted from where you live you can compare. :) There are lots of posts from along Queen, as well as Dufferin and around your general area.

One thing is for sure, you should be able to point a CM4221HD at Buffalo and likely get all the CN Tower stations coming in from its side too. You might need to test that a bit, but my guess is that you'd be happy with that. Are there any tall buildings between you and the direction of Buffalo?

For the information of people in this area, this is what I am getting with only Hamilton visible. CN Tower & Buffalo both blocked by apartment buildings.

I am using the DTV-5000HD box and a CM4221HD antenna from a 9th floor balcony with a cheap ($10) 12db amplifier.

Channel / Quality / Strength / Broadcast Resolution

2.1 / 100 / 83 / 1080
2.2 / 100 / 83 / 480
2.3 / 100 / 83 / 480
4.1 / 100 / 79 / 1080
5.1 / 84 / 80 / 1080
7.1 / 100 / 74 / 720
11.1 / 100 / 80 / 1080
17.1 / 72 / 62 / 1080
17.2 / 77 / 62 / 480
17.3 / 79 / 63 / 480
23.1 / 100 / 86 / 1080
25.1 / 100 / 67 / 1080
29.1 / 100 / 76 / 720
29.2 / 100 / 76 /480
36.1 / 85 / 70 / 1080
41.1 / 100 / 70 / 1080
44.1 / 100 / 89 / 1080
49.1 / 100 / 71 / 720
49.2 / 100 / 70 /480
57.1 / 100 / 85 / 1080
64.1 / 100 / 82 / 1080
66.1 / 100 / 82 /1080

According to my calculations (720 & 1080 = HD), I get 16 HD channels. I think that is awesome.

I just got my attenna up. Could you tell me the difference between 29.1 and 29.2?

the same show is on both channels. Why would fox broadcast on two different channels? I sure there is an easy answer.

thanks

29.1 is the HD version, and 29.2 is the SD version. Don't know why they would do that...

the easy answer is they broadcast an SD subchannel so that cable companys can pick it up and put it on analog basic cable. same with 49.2 and 26.1
try deleting all the repeat and useless channels and you'll be a lot happier scrolling thru channels. :)

Or you may want to keep the SD subchannel if the original content is in SD and you want your TV to stretch the picture rather than seeing bars on the side.

related to above, if I cannot receive the main channel clearly, the subs will also be bad as well?

(I'm thinking that they use less bandwidth, so maybe there's just enough to get through, although I have no idea how the subs are mux'ed into the main channel)

Correct, if the main channel is not coming through, neither will the subchannels. They are all in the same data stream, so you either get them with a full lock or you do not.

Help - I have read the decision chart regarding OTA antennas. My question is I am on the 9th floor of a condo in Norht Etobicoke and facing South West, should I use an Indoor or Outdoor antenna?

Do you have a direct view towards the CN Tower and Buffalo? Also you live on both the 9th and 10th floors?

My indoor antenna broke, so I am going to make my own outdoor antenna.:p
If you live in North York, please post your station status for the analogue signal.

Thank you.

What analog signal? The ones from the CN Tower/First Canadian Place? They're still up and running.

I meant how clear are the channels in North York in the analog signal.

Wondering what my fix is in order to get CTV signal consistently? Not much of a techy but wondering if i need a new and better antenna?

I'm in downtown toronto with an EAST facing balcony on the 25th floor.

My antenna is the four bowtie kind and is out on the balcony.

I think because i don't have a clear line of site to the CN tower, i get stuttering signals from CTV, sometimes CBC and CITY TV. Many other DTV channels come in crystal clear, but for me I really like the programming on CTV (i.e. Daily Show, Colbert Report)

Should i get an 8 bowtie antenna?

Is there some kind of tweak i can make to my antenna to get that tiny bit of improvement that will get me a clear signal?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Guy,

Im am new in this group. I'am planning get a free channe using antenna device. I read about what type of antenna that i need to buy. Right now the only antenna that is available on Save & Replay are the CM4221HD or CM4228HD and i read the review about this antenna. If you compare the CM4221 to CM4221hd and CM4228 and CM4228HD, most of you prefer antenna with out HD. My problem is CM dont produce it any more.

Do you know a store that still selling CM4221 or CM4228.

Thanks,
