oh ya i got another one for ya zounder. Suntv 15- out of Hamilton?

don't worry about the new WNYO signal, it's plenty strong. Everyone was picking it up before when they had their test signal on for a week.

Ok, I rotated the antenna around towards Hamilton. With only 3-4 minutes of fiddling I was able to get a steady 85% signal using dtvsignal. So yes, I can get SunTV in Hamilton fine.

Kinda cool, but I've already moved back to my original aim to get Buffalo tonight. And I get SunTV Toronto reliably so I'm not missing anything on SunTV.

I just installed a channel master 4248 and i get better results with rabbit ears...odd

I live on the Island, just 1 mile south of the CN Tower

I just installed a 4248 and have it pointed south. I have it on top of an old telephone pole 2 stories up with a 50 ft cable.

The problem is that I get better reception of PBS in Buffalo from my second story bedroom with Rabbit ears than I do with my new antenna. The local stations (ie ch 5) come in with a slight double picture so even downstairs I get better reception with the rabbit ears

This seems odd as I expected to get much better results easpecially after all of the postings I had read on this sight before my purchase

I can't imagine what the problem is

Mharris sounds like you have either a bad connection or are mis aiming the antenna.Recheck connection points inside the ends for outer strands of wire touching the centre wire. You connected the balun matching transformer wires to the correct points on the antenna.A 4248 is a long yagi <---- .The arrow or wide end is the back. The narrow end points in direction of where the signal comes from. Most people have 4228 which is 8 bay bow tie and the screen is the back. These are UHF antennas for 14 to 69 channels and are not good at all below 7.They are directional so you will not get Toronto sharp while pointing at Buffalo from your location.

I can move it 360 manually while looking at the tv through the window. The best reception for PBS was ssw yet even then it wasn't brilliant.

also the stations 5,9 and 11 come in clearer through the rabit ears.

So I am a little confused as it would only make sense that my antenna 10 times the size of the rabbit ears would get better recption...do you think it's the 50ft cable? Any other ideas. From the site, most seem to agree that the antenna is a good one.

As rob said, your CM4248 is a UHF-only yagi, so you cannot expect to get 5, 9 and 11 through it properly. It is designed for 14-69 only.

I think a better idea for you is to add a Wade-Delhi 306 VHF/FM antenna up there with your CM4248 aimed identically so that you can get all the stations you want, with both of them running into a preamp if needed.

Another option is to replace your CM4248 with a VHF/FM/UHF combo antenna like a Wade-Delhi 936, which means just one big antenna up there to get all your required stations.

Finally, a popular antenna is the CM4228 bowtie reflector because it will get 14-69 but it also does a good job on channels 7-13 (but it doesn't get 2-6 very well). It would be a good replacement for the CM4248 if needed.

Just click on the links I'm providing in this post to get a better understanding of the differences in the antennas mentioned.

I pointed the small end ssw for the best reception.

As for connecting the wires, I am a little confused. I connected the two wires as per the directions to the bottom half, the top half was to connect an extra VHF receiver.

I'll try reconnecting them and see...thanks

Do you have an idea why I am not getting PBS? That's a UHF from Buffalo. shouldn't I be getting that better. Rob suggested I check the contact points which i will do. Any other ideas?

I think your cabling is probably part of the reception problem, so maybe getting a pro in to look at your situation is the best thing to do at this point. You should be getting excellent UHF reception with that antenna unless there are other factors at play that a pro would spot.

Any tall obstructions around your antenna?

Thanks I think I will have a pro look at it

You could have an open connection inside the matching transformer or splitter.Try replacing one at a time and check for fraid wires from shielding touching the centre wire at the ends.PBS 17 should be crystal clear from your island location.Check the loop where the wires attach antenna is not bend and is touching any of the metal around it.You swung out the metal directors and opened the rear reflector on your 4248.

You mean the little antenna that came with the BEV 6100 that is for the UHF Remote Control? That's not very suitable for OTA TV frequencies. :)

The good thing is that with the results you got I would say that a CM4228 or CM4221 would do great for you.

Check the OTA Installation/Aiming Tips & Tricks (Mounts, Masts, Towers) thread for all the info you'll need on mounts of almost every type:

Regarding stations, the thread we are now in has lots of results posts for you to compare, so just go back to post #1 and start making notes. Posts have the nearest street corner or area in the subject title to make it easier for others to compare. :)

stampeder, quick question .. if u get the HD channels like FOX or CTV ..etc .. do u get dobly digital sound too?

TaGY2K: ATSC is capable of Dolby Surround 5.1 audio. Its up to the broadcaster to handle the audio as they see fit.

Some programming is in Dolby Surround 5.1, some is in Dolby Digital. CBC HD transmits everything in 5.1, regardless of the originating audio, while CTV and Global just pass along the audio portion of whatever they're showing as is.

I don't live near Buffalo so maybe someone from the area can give that info for those stations.
