: ATSC Converter Boxes (Non-HD, Non-Recording)
stampeder 2006-04-27, 12:01 PM Viewsonic is now distributing their HD12 ATSC Tuner in CanadaMajor distributors of Viewsonic in Canada are:
Best Buy/Future Shop
Staples
Office Depot
London DrugsMaybe one of these stores can order it for you through their chain, but you'd probably have to push hard if they don't know about this HD12 product.
stampeder 2006-04-27, 12:04 PM I was told $469CDN, but Viewsonic makes great gear and you have a Canadian warranty.Ouch, that's pretty steep, but then again I paid about $400 for my LG LST-4200A last year before it went off the market - what a gem. :)
I am thinking of driving down to Buffalo to go to Circuit City and get the LG Electronics HD Receiver/DVR (LST-3410A). It is on sale for $420 and with the way the Canadian dollar is these days - why not.
My question to the team is whether anyone knows if you can change the HD in the unit? 120 gigs is a bit small these days. I like to record and archive a lot of stuff. Will it record analog cable as well?
Thanks
sareeve 2006-04-28, 10:21 AM Ouch, that's pretty steep, :)
Yes it is - compared to US prices
It does cover Analogue as well and has a whole bunch of outputs, including DVI and Digital audio out - but I do not think it has HDMI
And it is covered by a Canadian warranty!
I have written to Samsung, pointing out HDTV OTA is here and has an audience so here's hoping they will bring some competition to the market
I have the answer to my question:
How To Updrade Hard Disk Size In An LG LST-3410a ATSC PVR
Upgrading the drive is simple. One guy has had it running for several months with a Maxtor 300 gig.
Power down the 3410a & disconnect from the wall.
Open unit and remove old drive.
Set jumpers on the new drive if necessary
Install new drive.
Reassemble unit.
Power up and go into the menu & choose format HDD.

The only problem is that the unit does not get the greatest reviews.
stampeder 2006-04-29, 01:20 PM One guy has had it running for several months with a Maxtor 300 gig.Does the LG firmware see all 300GB of disk space, or does it just treat it as a 137GB? If it sees 300GB, that'd be great!
Sees the whole thing. Supposedly it will format as large a drive as you have.

stampeder 2006-04-30, 11:55 AM The only problem is that the unit does not get the greatest reviews. The LG line of ATSC STBs is top notch so I was surprised to read what you said about the LG 3410a - I haven't come across bad reviews of it, but do you mean that it doesn't rate as high as other ATSC tuners? Given that it is pretty well one of the only ATSC PVRs out there would those reviews be a show stopper?
Editors give good reviews but users are different

Mind you this is just one set of reviews
Skuce 2006-04-30, 01:56 PM One guy has had it running for several months with a Maxtor 300 gig. What kind of drive? SATA or IDE?
BlueSkyzz 2006-05-08, 11:01 PM Anyone know where I can purchase a LG LST-4200a? I know it is discontinued but I'm hoping someone has a line on them.
How much did it sell for brand new?
sareeve 2006-05-09, 10:17 AM I have now located a retailer in Markham that sells Digital Stream....
Please see Mobil Tech Electronics (http://www.mobiltechelectronics.com)
Contact is Mark
The distributor can give you details of retailers closer to individual geographic locations
The HD1150 sells for around $250CDN, but only has component video outputs
The "HD3150 Plus" has HDMI but there is no ETA as to when it will be imported or any pricing details - call the importer and create demand.
BlueSkyzz 2006-05-13, 03:22 AM I am looking at three different receivers. Can someone suggest which one to get?
Zenith HD-SAT520
RCA ATSC11
Voom Satellite
Thanks
crockett18 2006-05-14, 08:01 AM The Samsung HDTV receiver for my money is great. Bought it for $250US at Circuit City, watched their site for a while, never go on sale. There is no PVR in it, but for a receiver, perfect.
WatchmaN 2006-05-16, 06:51 PM I boy's i'm trying to fix the time on my T-451, but it does set it right let's say it's 5 o'clock it will set it at 4 o'clock and it even does that with the program guide all the programs are displayed like if the would play an hour early. I tried both options for the saving time and it does'nt work either.
I also tried to fix it with other channel like 57-1 and then the time is 6 minute later then current time but the program guide is still an hour early on each program.
Can you help me?
thanks
