remote control on SIR-T351
please answer both questions.
1. please confirm the universl remote codes for SIR-T351 listed in the manual are correct for a sony TV, 077 & 074.
2. are you to tell me Samsung did not make this universal remote to work with Sony TVs, one of the most popular TVs in the world?
your reply

Dear Valued Samsung Customer
Samsung cannot guarantee that our universal remote controls will be able to operate all products, even for the manufacturers listed. Samsung strives to keep an extensive code library for most manufactures.
Sincerely Samsung

I have a 451 and the remote codes for Sony are 14, 15, 17, 21, 78, 109. One of these codes works my Sony but only the volume.
buritto 2005-10-26, 09:03 AM Does anyone have any experience with this tuner or the comapny?

Crispy 2005-10-26, 11:47 AM BUrrito,
No experience but they are a reputable company. The current line up of Directv HD receivers are made by Humax.
Crispy
tricky 2005-10-26, 03:05 PM I have been running a Humax HFA since earlier in the year, I have no problems with it.
You can see what stations I pull in here:

buritto 2005-10-26, 04:53 PM Excellent!
How fast is the IPG guide?
Yaamon 2005-10-27, 11:57 AM stampeder not sure if you answered this already but how far on your LG does the signal meter indicates mine only gets to the mid point.
I don't know if the dish receivers has a more sensitive tuner or has a weaker/poorer automatic gain control but I did notice that on my receiver too.
stampeder 2005-10-27, 12:46 PM You're right - I don't know what is going on with that. Right now CTV Vancouver DT is clear and strong, but the meter on the LG LST-4200A is at half way. I'll see if I can find anything out about that.
spmarceau 2005-10-27, 02:49 PM So, I'm just starting to read on this HDTV OTA.
So, is it me or that unit would seem to fit the bill well for ATO HDTV?
Do it also do Analog TV too? That would be a bonus...
So, whats the downside to those units?
Thanks!
stampeder 2005-10-27, 03:17 PM Hi spmarceau, I moved your post to this Samsung Tuners thread. Before we get back to you with info please let us know when you've read through this thread. Thanks.
Yaamon 2005-10-27, 04:19 PM stampeder I think all the LG are like that I saw a LG3510 hd tuner/dvd and it only got to the 1/3 to 1/2 way point.
Using the same feed to my samsung it displays 10 out of 10 and on the Dish 811 87 to 93%.
On the Ati card 84 to 88%.
spmarceau 2005-10-27, 04:39 PM Thanks Stampeder! I did a search for Samsung SIR-TS160, but it didnt return much.
So, whats the consensus? Is that a workable unit?
Any upgrade issues like other ones I read about?
Thanks!
stampeder 2005-10-27, 07:01 PM I did a search for Samsung SIR-TS160, but it didnt return much.I just did a Google of Samsung SIR-TS160 and it turns out that it is not an OTA receiver. Its a DBS receiver, so my advice is that you ask about it in the Digital Cable and Satellite Discussion thread:
http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12
If you are actually looking for an OTA receiver then you are in the right thread to check Samsungs.
spmarceau 2005-10-28, 12:04 PM Technically its a DirectTV receiver but seems to have OTA capabilities as well.
That is why I'm asking.
So anyone using it as an OTA ATSC receiver only?
stampeder 2005-10-28, 01:05 PM Technically its a DirectTV receiver but seems to have OTA capabilities as well.I stand corrected. Here's a review from 2 1/2 years ago comparing Samsung's 160 to their own SIR-T151 ATSC tuner: http://ultimateavmag.com/accessories/98/ and it seems that the 160 didn't have the same performance as the 151 even though they use the same ATSC chipset. Strange.
This site says the 160 is selling for about $900 U.S.!!! http://www.tvauthority.com/HDTV-Tuners/Samsung-SIR-TS160.asp
CoconutJoe 2005-10-29, 02:25 AM Let me throw this one out to the experts out there...
I have my T451 connected to my HDTV so that I can view OTA HD programming. The switch on the back of the unit is set to 1080i, and I am currently using component video cables to connect to my tv.
The box for the unit says "An 'always on' 480i output provides the capability to connect the tuner to an analog tv or vcr". I didn't find any documentation in the manual that says anything about this. I would guess that this means regardless of what the resolution output selector switch is set to, I will always have a 480i output as well.
I am curious to know if I can connect an SD PVR to this unit as well. So, if I am watching an HD program and I want to "pause" live tv, will the PVR be able to record the SD signal? I would then want to resume playback, which would obviously be SD (perhaps connected to a different input on the tv). Maybe it's impossible...I just got curious when I read that statement on the box.

The first thing I would do is the following test:
Install a RF cable from that 480i output and connect that to your TV's Antenna 2 input. Select input Antenna 2 and see what you get. By observing channel stations and their respective channel numbers, you will immediately determine if you are receiving digital channels from the T451 ATSC tuner or analog channels from your TV's NTSC tuner. My sense is that a SD PVR would want to receive a digital signal for recording on it's HDD. And you will see if the channel switching takes place with the T451 or with the TV.

eh eh..the reason it caught my eye is that I saw of few used units for sale at $50 in canada.
I guess I couldnt go wrong at that price...was curious if anyone managed to pull buffalo from Toronto with that unit.
Thanks
stampeder 2005-10-30, 03:17 PM Yesterday afternoon I went up on the roof and peaked my unamplified CM4228 to the local stations on Mt. Seymour (CTV-DT, a whole bunch of analogs, and soon to be joined by CBC-HD and SRC-HD). Using the LG's signal strength meter was not very helpful because it never seems to go past half way, no matter what I've done. When I brought out my BEV 6100 and used its meter it was much more helpful and clear, making the aiming much easier.
Now the LG locks onto digital perfectly and reception is better than ever for the Vancouver locals. Too bad about the signal strength meter behaviour, because everything else about this unit is perfect!
I just did a Google of LG LST-4200a signal strength meter and found a few mentions of owners having the same issue with LG ATSC tuners. I don't know what to make of it.
