I have a Delhi 10y13S for WVNY with a CM 7777.

So antenna gear is not a problem, it is more my fringe location because I am almost directly North of the signal. I know that there are sending the signal more West for WVNY.

Anyways, I read on an other forum that CM 7000 box is excellent for sensitivity, I was just asking if someone had used one in a Fringe location.

Thanks,

Intravino

Check out mille's Post #602

I found lots of posts about that box by putting 7000 into the Search This Thread tool to the upper right. :)

Hey,

I just received my Channel Master CM 7000 Digital/Analog converter box from Raybel today.

This is a primarily test, I have to lose WVNY-DT to see if this is more sensitive then the Tivo ( Microtune tuner) and my Samsung TV.

Positives:

It's a nice piece of equipment, s-video, great video output to the TV even in composite.

Negatives:

You can't manually add any channel, you have to scan or update scan.

This is just my first test but it does not look that sensitive. I plugged the CM 7000 into the 4221 that is pointed via Montreal and did not get WCAX-DT and WPTZ-DT that I normally get with my Samsung TV, But again maybe it is because of the low power of those 2 channels for the transition to DTV.

I will have an update soon on the sensitivity.

Hi Intravino

My CM 7000 lost WCAX and WPTZ last evening, because they broadcast at only 10% of there normal power ( transition )...

The tivax appears to be a converter and is listed around $80. You can find converter online for about $40-$50.

genx, be sure to check whether those cheaper converter prices you have seen are actually for CECB coupon models - only U.S. residents can get those coupons legally. Canadians pay the full list price on those converters.

I have a Tivax box and used it a few times. It is a solid box. The price is around $90.

I also found this "CITI SMART CS 2030" on ebay around $60 from a Canadian seller, this is possibly the same box as Tivax box by the look.

Just to clarify...

I bought a new RCA converter online (ebay) for about $40US. At the time it came to$55CAD including delivery to my door. It came from US so I made sure USPS was used.*

It has analog pass through (this was important to me), small menu. The picture appears to be very good but I dont know how it compares to others. Or its sentivity. The remote works with my toshiba TV. When I bought it it was advertised as (no coupons will be accepted). Also that it was a new model.

Sorry for not posting this earlier.

*I purchase items online all the time from everywhere. I even bought my cm4228 online. USPS has proved to be dependable and no hideen fees for US orders. Some experiences with other carriers were negative.

I did a final test with my setup (10Y13s into CM777) and the Channel Master CM 7000 Digital/Analog converter box.

I am disappointed with the sensitivity. I was hopping for more, if you read the comments on other forums about the CM 7000.

For WVNY-DT (1 KW for my location), I really don't get a lock with it. If you press info on the remote you see the signal meter, so I get a signal of about 10 % for WVNY-DT when it signal was overall weak. You can't watch it, a picture appears even minute or so.

The Tivo get a signal of about 30-40% with picture with pixelization but you can still watch it. Even my Samsung plasma get a signal of 20-40%.

When you do a scan with CM 7000 you get the Norwood PBS station and the St-Johnsbury PBS station listed also but no picture and barely no signal.

So the CM 7000 is downstairs on the Mitsubishi CRT TV.

Next test will be the Zenith/LG/Insignia CECB. Anyways I have two CRT TV's, so the need an other D2A box.

Just bought one of these Artec T3A Pro this aft for a 2 year old Sony CRT 27" works great so far and $65 plus taxes I didn't find bad they are at Wintronic. Can even just hook up through antenaa input and it works on channel 3 or 4.

Were they ATSC tuners, or ATSC to NTSC converter boxes (currently being pushed due to the US changeover)? If they were actually ATSC tuners for an HDTV, then that's the first I've heard of them in the area.

It was the "converter" (http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=160&img=dt250_back.jpg) type.
eastavin's post was for a similar type by a different manufacturer (http://www.1800customersupport.com/productdocuments/DTA800B1_RCA.pdf), not the HD output variety.

My husband picked up a box at a liquidation place for $30 for his parents. He set it up for them and they are getting quite a few channels for living way out in the country outside of Hamilton.

I've had my OTA setup now (attic install, 2-4 Bay Antennas 1 @ Buffalo/1 @ Toronto w/combiner) for 3 months now. With my Sharp 37" i was only unable to get WIVB (CBS) .. no signal...all other buffalo/toronto channels came in just fine.

I got my hands on a 30" Samsung...i had the exact issue...no WIVB.
I later got my hands on a 37" LG...here's the kicker...WIVB comes in now...little to no pixalation...however WGRZ & WGRZ+ comes in with pixalation.

Why am i getting different results with 3 different maufacturers.
Aren't all ATSC tuners equal?
