it did not work, i downloaded .net 2.0 repaired it as it was already installed just to make sure and I get the same error.

It is not detecting the card.

biggest pain in the butt.

I did as the ati site said, uninstalled the ati drivers and then opened this program.

Exactly the same thing here. I dl'ed 2.0 seperatly to make sure everything was fine and then installed it before proceeding any firther, and it stills give me the driver campatability not ok with your hardware config warning and then shuts down the install proceedure. ?

Btw, I went and installed the whole CD again (after I deleted the stuff), and it wouldn't give me the SmartGart settings for AGP. So I deleted just the CCC part from the comp and then reinstalled it the way Berty suggested (run CC from C: directly), and after rebooting and starting up, the CCC shows up (last) and when I check in the catalyst center the SmartGart is back. Yeah!.... but it still won't let me set it to "on" for agp in the settings. :(

I did what the ATI site siad too... start the program and just change the 0X to 4X first without the rest of the read/write/etc stuff. When it reboots the setting is back to off again.

here is the answer.

I did this.

https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/parature/support/images/addremove.jpg

... but I didn't have a DAO listed anywhere when I went back in and checked.

I did get an error though when I first tried uninstalling it earlier today... but I don't recall if it was the error "1905 – DLL failed to unregister" thing they mentioned in that link.

I just can't beleive ATI would make it this hard to update their card and drivers. It's always been an easy and painless thing to do in the past. It almost makes me want to give up entirely and just return the ATSC tuner card and 2600 and take a 15% restocking charge. :(

From the ATI site...

Symptoms:
Attempting to Install Catalyst Web Drivers for HD 2000 Series AGP products results in a compatible hardware not found message.

AMD publishes drivers to the web which have passed Microsoft's WHQL certification tests. A WHQL driver for HD 2XXX Series AGP products is not currently available, thus our web driver will not install for these products.

Solution:
Use the drivers provided by your Graphics Card manufacturer.

compatible hardware not found

That's exactly what I keep getting.

So I guess installing the Sapphire driver would make it work? (or even the Omega one too?)

Let me know if you get it to work.

Thats what should have been on the link i posted.

Thats what was in the link when i copied it anyway.

I have downloaded drivers from the saphiretech.com

just have not tried yet.

I'm downloading the omega driver right now. From all the blogs/forums reading I've done today, it appears that it's the only driver that seems to work correctly with the agp version of this card (that is until ATI releases their own "official" driver). It should be done in about 50 minutes (56k).

I'll update everyone later on. Hopefully you will see me post smiley face when I do.

Hmm. To be honest, the last time I used the CCC I found it to be a buggy pile of crap. So I use the "display driver only" drivers. Have you tried those instead?

Also, you could try an older driver, such as 7.11 or 7.10, just to see if it gives you the same errors. I find ATI drivers at the bleeding edge to be pretty flaky (mine are still in the 6 series, but I guess you need 7.12 or later to support your card).

Does your motherboard support AGP 8X?

When you say the AGP speed "drops back to 0X", is that in the BIOS, or in the CCC?

ClgShaft

I checked the advance settings of the CCC.

AGP is set to 8x for me.

I have 7.1 installed which came with the driver, it is working fine. I just wanted to update to the most current.

I did try installing just a display driver, and I got some kind of error.

thanks

Does your motherboard support AGP 8X?

In the Bios it says it's only 4X. I don't know if there is an update fro my mobo that would allow for 8X. ??

When you say the AGP speed "drops back to 0X", is that in the BIOS, or in the CCC?

Just in CCC.

I checked once when the comp was rebooting to see if the Bios reset, and I beleive it was still at 4X with all the read/write stuff "enabled".

The wierd thing is about 20 minutes ago, when I opened CCC again for the umpteenth time, it went to 4X by itself (it was first at 0X when I went to that option page, then the screen glitched for a spit second and then it jumped to 4X without me changing it). Btw, none of the read/write options were checked "on" when I looked.

Now, when I checked CCC again (about a minute ago), it was back to OX.

AGP is set to 8x for me.

I guess you have a newer mobo than mine.

I have 7.1 installed which came with the driver, it is working fine.

If after getting the Omega driver instaledand it doesn't work, i'll try the 7.1

I did try installing just a display driver, and I got some kind of error.

Yep, that's what i keep getting. From what i read the Omega driver will work. We'll see.

Update.

The Omega driver installed nice and easy.... but... once the comp rebooted, it rebooted again, and again, and again, and... :(

I had to go into windows via safe mode to remove the driver, rolled it back to the original ATI one for the 2600, and then it booted up fine. I don't know if i should even bother with the 7.1 from ati. I don't feel like trying to make this work anymore. Two days of removing/installing drivers, trying different settings, rebooting the computer too many times to remember... I'm just fed up/tired now. :( All I wanted was for my comp to be a HTPC. Was I asking too much? I guess I'll just go back to my Sammy 260. At least with that I was able to watch OTA HD on my Pani without any of these problems. :( The only real reason why I wanted to use my comp as a PVR, was so I could have a second source in another room when the wife is using the 260. Being able to time shift/pause and save HD shows to the computer's hd would of been nice, by I guess it's not going to happen, at least not on this comp.

Unless someone has something helpful to add I'm going to give up this PVR chase.

I guess it's time to reinstall the old Rage 128 card now. (oh great, another remove/install). lol

ASA
2008-01-08, 03:18 AM
Wow, it took me almost 20 minutes to unistall the 2600, tuner, and all the drivers... and just 5 minutes to reinstall the old rage card with drivers (I had to do it before I went to bed). I just wish the 2600 was as easy to install as the old card was.

ClgShaft, it's up to you if you want to bother with the Omega driver. It didn't work for me, but it may for you.

SenorBlanco, the driver for that 2600 has to have something wrong with it. That AGP setting would always revert back to 0X in CCC no matter what I tried, but after installing the old video card I checked it's properties. Guess what? It was listed as 4X, the same setting I had set in the Bios. Why CCC was not showing this is for the 2600 is:confused:. I was hoping the Omega driver would of taken care of that problem, but nope, not for my setup. :( Oh well, I guess I'll just start saving up some $'s for my future HTPC.

Btw, I'd like to thank all you guys for all the help you gave me over the past few days. Thanks for putting up with my questions and PM's.

I am not going to try the Omega driver.

With the Saphire HD 2600 Pro am I able to go DVI to HDMI? The box says it is not supported.

Also now that I have a HD Card, what do I do for sound? I would like to go to my home theater receiver via toslink or optical, the one with the red light and carries 5.1 dolby digital.

I am currently building a Home Theater in my basement, and wouldn't mind adding a HTPC to it, i think it would fit in nicely.

I am running a AMD Athlon 3200 + 64 processor and a gigabyte GA-K8..... Mobo, do not have the exact model. I have had this computer for a few years now and it has been great, I would like to get a few more years out of it.

I think I need a new case as the USB ports on the front do not work anymore, it is a antec case. When getting a new case I just move everything from one case to the other right? Making sure it is the right case for my mobo?

ASA - you also mentioned updating the mob. Is this something that needs to be updated? I do not know even where to begin, or what drive to install. I looked on the gigabyte site and there is updates, just dont know what is necessary or what applies to me. Would this be the same for my dvd drive, or all drives should be updated regularily? I have never updated anything but the video card, and that didn't work to good.

ASA - on my mobo box it says the agp is 8x. Have you checked your mobo to see if this card should have worked?

thanks

ASA, I don't think that I realized that your board is only capable of AGP 4x. This may have a negative impact on playback regardless of the card you use.

ASA, I don't think that I realized that your board is only capable of AGP 4x. This may have a negative impact on playback regardless of the card you use.

I was thinking about that this morning. They thing is CCC had the option for 4X and 8X. Surely even the 4X would of helped abit. The problem I had was that it would not stay set to 4X in CCC even when I tried. Oh well, time to bring some stuff back.

ClgShaft, I'm no computer programing guru/geek, but a new board for me would mean I could pick one of the new PCI Express equiped models. This would allow me to use a more affordable card and also allow me to use a much faster CPU than I have right now (both things would help greatly with playback quality). If you comp is running fine as is, imo I wouldn't mess around with it. As for a different case, I would say yes, it's just as easy as switching all the stuff over to a new case, but I didn't do that myself, I had a friend that works for IBM do it for me, but I didn't see him do anything extra like load drivers and such when he did.

Hi Guys,

I'm currently piecing together parts for a new PC.

Here's the direction I'm heading in, let me know what you guys think.

CPU - Intel C2 Q6600 - $289.99
Mobo - Asus P5K-VM Socket 775 Intel G33 ICH9 (need suggestions if this one isn't good, any other ASUS board ~$150 or less) - $114.99
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 w/4 Heat Pipes - $42.99 OR Scythe Ninja Mini 6 Heat Pipes CPU Cooler (SCMNJ-1000) - $40.99
Case - Antec Sonata III (w/500w Earthwatts PSU) - $112.99
Memory - OCZ Gold XTC (2 x 2GB = 4GB) PC2-6400 (already purchased)
Hard Drive - WD 500GB SATA2 16MB (already purchased)
Video - ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT (PCIe x16 512MB) CL 5-5-5-18 (already purchased) - not planning on gaming, more for video and HD
Optical 1 - Pioneer DVR-212D(Black) SATA DVD-Writer 18x DVD+R/-R - $33.99
Optical 2 - LiteOn SHD-16S1S 16X DVD-ROM, Black, SATA, OEM - $21.99

I'd like this system to essentially last me at last 5 years or more and allow me to upgrade in the future as new technologies emerge.

The reason I'm going with Quad core and not dual is that I want to try and 'future-proof' this system for as long as possible.

I'm not a gamer, but do intend on hooking it up to my HDTV possibly at some time or doing HD playback/recording, Image Editing, Video conversion, etc.

Thanks.

Sounds very similar to my machine, and my usage.

MoboI have the p5K, it's been good to me but maybe a bit hot. Lots off issues reported in the Asus forums though. The IDE connector is in a terrible position if you need any IDE devices. My other contender was the Gigabyte GA-P35 series, but it wasn't as cheap as the p5K.

Cpu CoolerI'm using the stock Intel fan and it runs very cool, probably don't need to spend extra on a high-end fan. Some of those huge fans won't work in that case as well.

CaseI have the exact case, only 2 issues I can think of. 1. It doesn't have room for long video cards (doesn't sound like that's an issue). 2. You have to remove the cpu fan to change the power supply, don't have to do that very often though.

MemoryYou didn't say what OS but unless you go 64bit you won't be able to use all of the 4G. See here (http://www.dansdata.com/askdan00015.htm) as to why not.

OpticalI personally don't have a use for both a DVD-Rom and a writer but maybe you have some special purpose. I used to have both to save wear-and-tear but now that they're so cheap I don't bother.

Hey fellas I've joined this fourm because you guys have helped me out and I'll return the favor.
To Start the OMEGA drivers work like a charm!! not only did I get my buddies sapphire HD2600pro working it even comes with more tweaks to really push this card and show it's true abilities, Clgshaft I recommend installing it. Also Clgshaft if your board has spdif you can use that for your 5.1 I know it's only coax mode (Still 5.1) but there is an optical guide on converting it from coax to toslink using it's own vcc which is where it gets its power to flash the little light, lol. or you can buy a pci sound card from a company call turtle beach which is the only one out there that has the optical port. Also you can use a dvi to hdmi converter but it will not give you the audio portion.
Now ASA if you plan on upgrading your board to something that has PCI-E I recommend you get the http://www.palit.biz/en/products/ati_pcie_HD2600PRO-Sonic.html it has a hdmi port which supports 5.1 Dude I have this one to put in my pc and I can't wait. you can pick one up at www.canadacomputers.com (CAN) for $90.00. Also not sure which way you guys are heading with your Media PC's but have a look at http://www.team-mediaportal.com/ this is what we're running and it blows MCE out of the water.

Have fun with all you do!

hedge, thanks for the quick reply..

1. So would you recommend another Asus Mobo that may run a little cooler but won't break me over $150? Don't plan on running any IDE devices at all. Everything I'm getting is SATA I/II.

2. CPU Cooler.. I've read somewhere that the Quad cores run hotter and higher wattage than the C2D's. If I'm doing some hard video transcoding and leave my PC on all the time, doing several tasks at once would you still recommend me sticking with the stock Intel fan? Have you noticed any heat issues with this Case/Mobo/CPU combo? Also, I'm planning to put the box in an computer table that has a front door (back is open).. any issues you may think with this?

3. Case.. i. yea I've read that case isn't the biggest and mose spacious and the card I have isn't very big so it should be no problem. ii. Hopefully won't have to do that very often since the Earthwatts PSU is supposed to be a good one not some cheapo PSU.

4. Memory.. yes I am planning to run XP Pro x64.. only thing I'm worried about is if some of the apps I have will handle the 64-bit O/S. I do want to be able to see the entire 4GB, so in the future I may upgrade to Vista x64.

5. I can agree with you here, but I do make backups of movies and it's much easier to 'set it and forget it' so that when I get back to my PC, the copy and burn is done.

You can never future proof anything computer related. By the time you need more power, something better and often cheaper is available. In 5 years, new Intel CPUs may not use the LGA775 socket anymore. It may be DDR3 (or DDR4) only. I always felt it is always best to build a system to meet your current need with possibility for expansion in the future.

CPU: At the moment, the only advantage to Quad core is if you are often doing video conversions/encoding.

Motherboard: Even though I have used an Asus motherboard in all most of my computers for the last 10 years, I went with the Gigabyte (GA-P35-DS3L) due to excellent reviews everywhere. My only negative with it is the number of SATA headers (4). If you want more you have to go with the DS3R but it was ~40$ more. On the Asus side, the P5K/P5KC are the equivalent. Also, since you are going with a case that allows full size ATX board and you are using a distinct video card, I would recommend going with a full size ATX board to have more PCI/PCI-E expansion slots.

Cooler: Why the Mini Ninja? Your case allows the Scythe Ninja Plus REV.B to fit easily in there and would reduce the heat and/or noise (slower fan required) to cool your cpu. It is only 36$ at DirectCanada vs 33$ for the Mini.

Case: That's a fine case. Most video card will fit the case but not the super longs. If the card is too long it is possible you will not be able to mount a fan to cool the HDs too but with the card you picked, it should be an issue.

RAM: As mentionned, WinXP/Vist 32bits will only recognize ~3GB. You need a 64bit OS to have your full 4GB available in Windows for programs. Just make sure your apps & drivers work fine with a 64bits OS before going with one.

All in all, I dont see any major issues with the system listed.

I use a very similar system (same RAM/CASE/HD/NINJA REV.B) but with a Intel E2160 1.8ghz @ 3.2ghz and a Gigabyte 8600GT Passive instead. After my P4 Prescott which ran so hot, I wanted something I could cool quietly and it is.. quiet!
