: Dead xbox360 - Extended warranty from Futureshop
Ishmael 2006-09-06, 02:40 PM They told me to ship the hard drive and unit and leave everything else. I asked a second time to confirm the hard drive part and they said yes. Still waiting on my box as well...
Are you getting the hard drive back?
What about DL content? Arcade games? Saves?
I better be getting the drive back! The tech said to label the drive with the support number. (I guess it could be part of the problem). Hopefully I don't lose the saved information. I should be able to re-download any of the arcade games, as I think they are attached to the gamertag.
WSPOWELL 2006-09-06, 04:13 PM Hi My 360 died in June, it was usedalmost daily since Christmas and well ventilated. I also bought the FS extended warranty. I took it to FS and they said they would send it out for repair and it might take as long as 2 weeks to get an answer on how long it would take. They called me in one week and said it was a general hardware failure and if I brought back all the accessories that was with the original purchase they would give me a new one. I did the exchange but kept the original hardrive. The newer one is still working. I am glad I bought the extended warranty.
Ishmael 2006-09-06, 10:10 PM Eureka!
Can't complain about this too much, my box arrived today and I shipped it out right away.
Called Sunday night, so it took them 2 business days to get it here.
Interesting to note, ac, the cardboard sleeve I put the machine in didn't have enough room for the hard drive.
The instruction sheet in the box was explicit that no accesories were to go with the unit.
So, we'll see what happens. Turn around time now.
On another note, my friend's 360 died yesterday. It will only flash red lights. He got it at launch from from best buy along with an extended warranty. I'll let you guys know if they do a direct exchange for it.
They powered his xbox and saw the red lights ... gave him a brand new one :) So far he has returned an xbox 360, 2 remotes and a headset under the extended warranty.

Sweet.
There were two other people at the Purolator depot picking up empty boxes for their 360's, and the Purolator people knew exactly what it was as soon as they saw the box.
I'm officially starting to doubt the 'few and far between' stance that MS has taken on this.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the system, and respect problems happen, but still, you know.
Snoman 2006-09-18, 09:17 AM Mine gave up the ghost on Saturday, 3 red lights of death. After I tried everything at the web site I called the 1-800 number and told the lady everything I tried first. All she asked me for was my mailing address and the serial number to register my unit and must have warrantied it even though I bought it in February because she didn't ask for a credit card number, kewl. She said she was shipping out a return box with instructions on what to send back. I'll fill you guys in on my saga as it unfolds. I'd hate to lose all my saved games. Perhaps I should just hang on to the hard drive.
You don't send the HD or any peripherals. I kept my old HD.
Some people in the States are posting that MS is no longer paying shipping, so I guess we're lucky in Canada that they're still covering that.
Keep on them if the box doesn't show up. My experience was a bit of a nightmare with them actually sending the box to the right place. It had to do with their settings on the work order. The origninal CSR filled it out incorrectly and it kept getting cancelled.
Drainc 2006-09-18, 12:01 PM It took me a second phone call to them to get the box delivered properly as well. Got the box last week and shipped it out to them. Waiting for my return box with a fixed 360.
I agree with following up on the box. I called in on the 4th and was told to expect a box within 4 days. The box didn't arrive, called back and they said it hadn't shipped (but they didn't know why). A few days later, still no box, so I call back. They said they would ship it out by Friday. Its now two weeks...still waiting.
One support rep said to send the hard drive and the other two said not to. I plan not to, as I have heard several stories of people not getting them back.
becks 2006-09-19, 10:06 AM I just got the dreaded 3 red lights of death and I don't have the extended warranty :-( I won my 360 from the pepsi contest so at least it didn't cost me anything but it still sucks that I have to pay to get it replaced considering how many people are having the same problem. I tried to get them to give me one for free...lol...but that didn't work. I was only able to get 25% off the price.
Called back today and apparently they have no idea why the box hasn't shipped. They are going to close out the previous ticket and opened a new one. 16 days and no box...
Snoman 2006-09-20, 07:56 PM Called on Sunday, received box yesterday. Very kewl. BTW don't send the hard drive. The instruction sheet says only send back the console. No accessories.
I finally got the box and dropped it off at Purolator. The instructions said not to ship the peripherals. Apparently there are two boxes, one if they suspect there is a problem with the powercable/hard drive and another for unit failures.
As mentioned earlier, it does sound like Purolator is doing a brisk business with 360 returns.
dabell 2006-09-21, 08:32 PM Good news for those that had an early Xbox 360 - MS will be refunding repair costs for boxes made before Jan 2006 and extending the warranty.

flexo96 2006-09-21, 10:13 PM After reading the above post I'm a little puzzled. I won my 360 last year with the Pepsi "be first to play" contest. My 360 obviously has a manufactured date before Jan 06. However it died last week. At first it froze and then this past weekend I got the 3 red lights. I called MS on Tuesday to see what I could do. I was told it would cost $168 cdn to have it fixed.
So if this is true and formally announced by MS, they would fix it for free?

dabell 2006-09-21, 10:22 PM I believe you will get a free repair. The annoucement is supposed to come out officially tommorrow. My first repair was a pepsi won machine as well (although one I bought from the winner). I am going to spend the $60 for 2 years extended warranty when I get my 2nd repair box back.

Hopefully this applies to us because I'm in the exact same situation as you. I just hope that us Canadian's don't get screwed by this since officially our 360's aren't repaired (like the US) they get replaced.
Drainc 2006-09-22, 07:47 PM Just to close out, I finally got my replacement xbox back. Working fine now, it has a manufactured date of 03/2006. Glad to hear that MS is extending warranties. I had my first xbox right on release day and have never had a problem with it, just this second one having the problems. Hopefully now it'll be falut free.
flexo96 2006-09-24, 01:48 PM Just got off the phone with MS and they are sending my empty box out on Monday (fingers crossed) My box was manufactured on 10-18-2005 and will not be charged for the repair or refurb unit they will be sending me.
