I get the disc read errors periodically in Burnout Revenge. I suspect it's some sort of bug in the 360, or possibly an issue with the DVD drives (maybe hardware, maybe firmware).

The shipping box arrived over night as promised! Also, they included over-night shipping to Ontario (where I guess MS Canada is).

I asked the CSR if there was anything he could do to hurry the process, given the delays, and he gave me over night service.

If you are waiting for a shipping box, ask the CSR if there is anything on the work order that will prevent the shipping: Country Code and Currency Code are what held mine back.

My X-Box is constantly locking up in Oblivion as well, but I think it's just the game. the thing that has me confused is my disc read errors. A screen comes up saying it can't read the disc, I reset it and it's fine. Anyone seen this issue?
hold down that A button when you boot the machine up and this will clear the cache,or you can try and clear your cache with this undocumented method (http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEuAlppEFyWeHAdAdE.php) ,it is the game BTW ;)

I've only seen this once personally (had my console since launch), but I've heard about it happening with other people too. It seems very sporadic though, and not specific to any one game. It may be a sign of the console going south, but I sure hope not.... ;)

Got my replacement XBOX360 today. So that's a 2 business day turnaround. They didn't include any free stuff, as some posters have received.

The saga comes to an end.

Well an Xbox 360 that I purchased used (lightly used) has given up after a couple of months heavy use. Turns on, then after 5 minutes freezes solid. Try to power it up after that and red ring of light. Seems like some kind of heat issue for sure. Called up MS last night and the guy I talked to gave me the hard line of 90 day warranty. It would seem that they have extended that for some. I'm going to try calling back today and see if I can argue the $157 charge away.

Update: Just got off the phone from them. They will be replacing my unit free of charge. Just have to wait for the box to ship it back. Weee!

What was your argument that convinced them? I have just sent mine off today for repair - bought it slightly used as well, warranty ran out in May.

I am going to at least call back and let them know I want the specifics of the repair - ie what did they find wrong. Figure this may give a basis for a refund!

I really didn't do anything different. However when I was giving my address the guy was perplexed... He had me registered as USA instead of Canada. I didn't have to argue at all, just went through the facts about when I purchased it and what the problems were and where I lived and he went through the process to replace my unit.

The first guy I guess assumed I was in US and didn't get a Canadian warranty but quoted the repair cost to me in Canadian. Strange.

I saw mention on a site of checking for Canadian warranty status - the Canadian warranty is to follow "law on Ontario". I was really hoping Ontario had some kind of minimum warranty period or similar, but found nothing.

I'll see what luck I have with a call tommorrow.

I am probably going to get flamed for this, but when my hardware dies prematurely through no abuse of my own, I do the following:

Buy an identical product
Open the new one, take out the console, swap your hard drives (theyre detachable, no tampering required)
Put the old one back in
Return it as defective, keep the new one

Some might say this is unethical, but to me, selling a console for $500 that only works for a few months is unethical and no consumer should have to suffer the costs of that ;)

Only works when you buy from joints that do not mark the serial (FS and BB do).

not to mention it's against the law and considered fraud.

the first clue is that the console has a 90 day warranty, that should be the first indication that an extended warranty is a *MUST*

Only Nintendo offers 1 year warranties.

Yeah, add kids to the equation and it is even crazier.

hence why Nintendo offers the 1 year warranty.

A question for those of you who have been told that you have to pay for repairs, when did they tell you? My 360 died over the weekend and I placed a call with Microsoft. They said they are sending out the courier and to expect them in the next few days. I bought it in April, so the warranty has expired. They made no mention of charging me, and I didn't bring it up.

Did they tell you they would charge in advance or after they looked at the unit.

Mine died on Sunday night, just after I tried to play Saints Row for the first time.

I asked whether I had to pay or not, and they said $157, charged to my credit card (wouldn't even process the repair order without me giving them my credit card number).

I'm waiting for my box, rep told me 4 days max for the box, 3 days to ship back, 4 days max to get a NEW unit back (not a refurb, so I was told).

I was also told to remove face plate, hdd, and all cables, and send just the bare box.

wait wait wait, I hate it.

People on other message boards have reported they doubled the warranty from 90 to 180 days warranty ... so that would mean you're unit is still under warranty. Thats why they didnt mention charging you.

On another note, my friend's 360 died yesterday. It will only flash red lights. He got it at launch from from best buy along with an extended warranty. I'll let you guys know if they do a direct exchange for it.

They told me to ship the hard drive and unit and leave everything else. I asked a second time to confirm the hard drive part and they said yes. Still waiting on my box as well...
