it only has one RF inputs, 5 hdmi, 3 components, as for the problem it is fixed. had the whole tuner board change by the tvtech under warranty, the atsc tuner part of it did not work. but now the problem I am having is that the signals are only around 45, 50 to 82 (mostly 50 and one station 17.1 is 82) depending of the HD channel. works fine but I am looking to increase the signal quality. running roughly 70 feet of RG-6 cables. no pre-amp thinking of pre-amp. antenna is a CH4221HD. I am think of getting an antenna direct db8 for long range and use a splitter to combine the CH4221HD for local stations. I am unable to get NBC with the CH4221HD. I got all of the rest of the 20 stations.

thank you for the help. I am just confused of combining 2 antennas and what type of pre-amp I should get. I am just wondering if this would be a good combo.

thank you once again for the input it is deeply appreciated.

Just a tip - is it possible to edit out all the EIT program info before posting the TSReader output? We're not concerned about the EIT data, which is that large section of future program info that fills up your TV's EPG, so we can just ignore all that stuff for troubleshooting.

Squibbles, just out of curiosity, can you look in TSReader and see how many Canadian CHs out in Vancouver are providing a halfway decent/useful program guide (ETT/EIT Info). Just curious as comparison to TO area...

Noticed a couple had it in there in ur TS Reader dumps.

Picked up one of these in the US last week (I don't think it's available in Canada)

http://datalore.ca/sandbox/ZZ00B74B9A.jpg

It's a 7" portable LCD tv set for ~130 US$. Being a gadget lover I couldn't resist not buying it. It will come in handy with my OTA antenna experiments when I want to try different remote locations.

I would rate this unit 4 out of 5.

Pros
-----

-Tunes in both analog and ATSC digital tv stations
-Comes with remote, ac adapter, dc adapter for car.
-Telescopic antenna is removable and you can attach any antenna to the F connector
-Tuner sensitivity is the same as my Sharp Aquous TV - I attached the same antenna that is attached to that TV and could pick up all the same channels no problem
-Has a built in rechargeable battery with 2.5 hours of use (haven't verified the actual minutes of use myself)
- external audio/video inputs, headphone jack
- auto scan for channels and add-auto scan for channels, channel edit

overall the feature list is nice and I would have given the little TV 5 stars. I deducted 1 star for these cons

Cons
-----

Picture is on the dark side for the analog channels, digital channels have better brightness/contrast. Adjusting the brightness/contrast on analog channels really doesn't help.

No onscreen guide

Picture Quality
----------------

Picture quality is 5 out of 10. Lots of room for improvement, but this is a low priced TV set and I didn't expect it to be awesome.

Is it a true f connector for the antenna? Can't tell from the pics on their website...it looks like bnc.

^^^^
Even if BNC it's not a problem. BNC - F adapters are available. You could even roll your own.

I realize that, James. And I have bnc - F adapters. I was just curious what the unit had.

This was answered in hkaye's original post:

And to confirm that he wasn't just assuming it was an F connector:

I attached the same antenna that is attached to that TV...

Looks like it doesn't support the new mobile ATSC standard though so it may not work well in a vehicle. Other than that it looks pretty nice.

Does the Eviant have a signal meter? If so, this might be a handy device for peaking an antenna while up on the roof or mast if you don't have an analyzer. Also it might be handy for trying to sniff out signal leakage in a person's cabling and devices.

Normally this topic would go in the LCD Flat Panel Television (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=154) forum in another part of our site but I put it into this one due to its usefulness to OTAers in particular.

I just picked up a batch of 6 axion 7" HDTV's from ebay for $150 shipped, all defective in one way or another. I managed to make 5 workable ones, only two of which will hold a charge, the other three work fine plugged into the A/C or the car. They are pretty much on par with yours. I had wanted one just for field signal strength level, but unfortunately the only signal indication it gives me is 'good' LOL. Oh well.
I managed to sell 3 of them for $40 each, so atleast I recovered my costs.
I was pleasantly surprised, the tuner section is almost as sensitive as my full size TV.

Bought it 1900 x 1200, 5 millisec, from Dell a few weeks ago for $279. I think they were dumping stock. The tuner works well enough that I pick up all the Buffalo HD through the back end of my ancient Channel Master Yagi combo. CBC and CFTO SD about 60 K as the crow flies come in perfect, in fact the 16:9 SD from CBC is nearly as good as HD for Hockey. I highly recommend this, and would guess all the viewsonic would be similar.

I have this one: Sony KDF-E42A10

On the specification, it says:
Tuner (Cable) : Clear QAM
Tuner (Terrestrial) : 8 VBS, ATSC, NTSC

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11038623#specifications

So I assume that it does have an ATSC tuner. However, on its manual, I couldn't find information on how I can scan for digital channels. Nothing on the remote either.

http://www.fixyourdlp.com/manuals/Sony/kdfe42_50a10.pdf

Any ideas?

I don't have that model so I don't know how the menu looks, but Sony's usually have a menu option that allows you to choose between CABLE and ANTENNA for scanning.

Anyone?
