You may want to look for a firmware update for your TV. If a reset fixed it, it may have been caused by a firmware bug.

Good suggestion. Thank You.

An observation:

I've been able to get more than one station added and linked to physical channels, and what's odd is the sorting of the results.

If on a certain physical channel say station "A" has .1, .2, .3 (3 streams) and station "B" has .1, .2, .3 and .4, the TV sorts them like this:

A.1
B.1
A.2
B.2
A.3
B.3
B.4

I find this really annoying. How about sorting it by call sign... At least then the streams would be kept together.

On a side note, I have been able to log ION and it's 4 streams. BUT, also, there is a Canadian analogue somewhere (wasn't good enough for a solid ID) mixed in that mess that seems to be causing problems. It was noted during a recent strong reception enhancement event.

CamDAB that's an odd and irritating software implementation Toshiba's done on that model!

Can owners of other Toshiba models confirm whether Toshibas in general do/don't do that?

What's worse, it's the latest firmware too: Feb 2009, same as posted on their web site. TV made after that date, so yes, it's up to date.

At least the user can update it with a file download and USB stick. :)

Stampeder,

I found this article, but not sure I should assume this chip was actually implemented in my 2008, 19LG30 HDTV...if so it may help my multipath situation!

not sure I should assume this chip was actually implemented in my 2008, 19LG30 HDTVCheck the month of manufacturer and if it is later in 2008 I'm pretty certain it is a Generation 6 in it as they rolled it out onto the market quickly in their own products.

LG's division that designs ATSC chipsets is called LG Innotek (http://www.lginnotek.com/main.html) and they are working on Generation 7 now with very few public details available. They publish a lot of research papers in the IEEE Consumer Electronics proceedings.

I recently picked up a Samsung HDTV for the bedroom and have been very happy with it however coming from the Panasonic side of thinking does not apply with Samsung.
I find the Samsung to have a tremendous advantage over the Panasonic regarding picking up analog signals. On the digital side it has a slight advantage.
One disadvantage with the Samsung is once you do a scan you can not do just a digital one to add channel's that come in on Tropo evenings. I got around this by using this full proof method
I unhook the coax from the OTA feeding the television and perform a scan. Now nothing comes up and you want this. Next I re hook the coax feed to the television and I check my Panasonic television to see what digital channel is coming in. On my Samsung I type in the physical channel RF and boom the PISP loads up.
note: On a Samsung television it will perform a DTV air signal first; and if after 4 seconds none is found it reverts to analog. Be careful as the strength of this tuner is strong on the analog side and if it remotely sniffs a signal it will lock and not allow you to rescan for a DTV air signal later.
With this in mind and time I have the same channel's that ore loaded on my Panasonic from three Americian markets.
If you don't have a Panasonic television to use as a reference oh well your outta luck. Go buy one.....
just kidding

That's the same thing that I have happening to (Samsung 32in LCD) Oct 2008 mfr date. I find this to be an advantage. Also when another digital channel on the same frequency overpowers another already memorized It takes the spot in PSIP automatically. This is great for tropo events. I can start channel surfing with the ch up/dn button and depending on where the antenna is pointed I have new far away channel(s) popping in/overwriting closer ones without having to destructively rescan. examples: WDCQ erased WEWS out on rf15 (5-1) and instantly mapped accordingly as 19-1. / WFUM PBS replaces WUAB frequently both on rf28.

Good Day.

I purchased a Channelmaster 4221 and hooked it into the back of my TV via coax cable on the main floor. Antenna is on floor facing window. I pick up a few channels but I think they are analog? It is my understanding that if you get HD or DTV signals it is an all or nothing signal. Is this correct? Ie, there will be no snow etc on the picture?
I am not sure if my TV has the ATSC tuner. It is a Sony rear projection LCD from 2007. There is no info in the manual, and I can't find info to get on this model on the net. (Sony KF-42E200A). I get Global, Omni, CBC and PBS, but they are not 16:9. Is it supposed to be that. I have to stretch the picture. With Bell it was "Full". Now "Full" looks distorted.
Should I buy a converter box and see if there is a difference? Milton, ON: James Snow Parkway
Thanks.

I went to several websites and if that is indeed the model number, the TV doesn't appear to have an ATSC Tuner.

http://www.sony.com.ph/product/kf-42e200a

Look at the specs section of the operating manual - usually states if ATSC. Did you purchase the TV here? Check the exact model number.

In the back of the manual it only states Channel Coverage (analog) 2-69
and Cable TV (analog) 1-125.
Just found this website and it is this Grand Wega TV I have. It states it has the tuner.

"the Grand WEGA 3LCD Rear Projection HDTV with Built-in High-Definition ATSC Digital Tuner puts you in the centre of all the action."

I tried all the different menus but can not find any HD channels.

Thanks

joepatroni, you might have an earlier version. There is a sticker on the back of your TV with the date of manufacture - what does it say on yours?

joepatroni

The sticker says Feb 2007.

Okay with that information you can phone Sony's toll free line (its in the user manual) and ask if yours is an earlier version without the ATSC tuner.

In the meantime, please read these links:

If it turns out yours does not have an ATSC tuner in it you'll need to know the difference between the boxes out there on the market. See these threads since not all of them provide OTA HD:

ATSC High Definition Tuner Boxes (Non-Recording) (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=108740)

ATSC Converter Boxes (Non-HD, Non-Recording) (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=42186)

You've already had enough trouble with certain store staff! so you might want to check with www.saveandreplay.com (our sponsors).

Signal diagnostics on the TV report that WQLN uses physical channel 50. I have yet to come across a HDTV tuner that has this type of diagnostics. What I mean is does it tell you the physical channel? I know on some Sony television models they will display both virtual and physical. Is this the case with you?

goforit

LG shows the virtual channel for channel display, and real channel on the channel edit menu, Samsung only shows the virtual.

My Sony Bravia shows the physical channel in diagnostics. IMO, this is necessary information for troubleshooting antenna and signal problems. Of course you can look it up on the internet, but it's nice to have it at your fingertips.
