You won't get any OTA digital TV stations in Halifax today, but by September 2011 Halifax will have all of its present analogue TV stations converted to DTV. Here's what your channel selection will look like if the plans already in the Industry Canada database are followed:

CBHFT 13
CIHF 26
CBHT 39
CJCH 48

And you can look up other Nova Scotia stations here:

Just sit tight for a bit and keep your eyes on the CRTC website. Halifax is a mandatory markets for DTV conversion, so there should be a flood of applications to the CRTC soon for digital TV transition. If four stations constitutes a flood. :P

Well, you probably have a better chance of getting Calais than me, but I can get Portland and Boston with an m4 indoors with no preamp from Yarmouth, as long as the clouds aren't too low and the fog's not too thick, but then that's tropo. In the winter my Wintv signal monitor only sees grey blips when I scan. How does it look on your tvfool?

According to the mirror of the IC database maintained by Stampeder (http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/Canada_TV_Stations/DT.html), two DTV stations in Atlantic Canada have been approved and are now listed there:

Saint John; CIHF-DT-2; Channel 12; 354.0 metres; 6000 watts
Halifax; CJCH-DT; Channel 48; 211.5 metres; 400000 watts

Found three more DTV stations in Atlantic Canada approved by the CRTC in the mirror of the IC database maintained by Stampeder (http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/Canada_TV_Stations/DT.html):

Moncton; Channel 27; CIHF-DT-3; 311.5 metres; 86000 watts
Moncton; Channel 29; CKCW-DT; 304.4 metres; 390000 watts
Charlottetown; Channel 42; CIHF-DT-14; 146.0 metres; 6400 watts

I was planning to intervene in the Global application that 6400 watts on channel 42 is inadequate to cover Charlottetown. But it looks like this has already been approved, with no CRTC proceedings?

Here's an earlier thread that tells how:

ta guy; There's quite a few still picking up those stations quite well around Belliveau's cove, I hang around " the computer guy's" shop there quite a bit, the nm is around -19 on tvfool, a lot better than down here in Yarmouth. Most days since May I've been able to pick up Boston and Portland, sometimes Bangor, but then I'm near the harbour, with an m4 on a table near my back door, almost perfectly clear path towards the lighthouse. 7 and 10 shows up but never locks, I can only get two green bars on the signal meter.

As it happens, the Global repeater in Charlottetown will be operating at the parameters set in the Industry Canada allocation plan. They could have asked for more power if they wanted, though.
With no CRTC application process, perhaps you would consider contacting Global directly and try to communicate with someone in their DTV transition team, a group of broadcast engineering types dedicated to the transition process. (Not long ago, I wrote them about their plans for Winnipeg and got a reply back within a day.)

Just a follow-up to downbeat's mention of CJCH (CTV Halifax) having an approved DTV channel, I went out today and confirmed that what I saw a few weeks ago was in fact a new tower on Geiser Hill. It's about half the height of the current TV tower, already wearing new hardware, but much of it doesn't seem TV-related. I've yet to find out if it's a temporary, transitional tower (given how full the main one is) or if it's going to be the permanent way to create space for DTV and other services up there.

I'm not having much luck linking the image but it's in my profile photo album.

The most beautiful place on earth. http://www.margareens.com/

According to tvfool results, you'll likely need satelite service.
One or two analogs possible, but not much else is available in paradise cove.

I won't be much help, but went out to Cape Breton for vacation this summer..Amazing scenery..great place. As the other poster mentioned there are only 1 or 2 stations in your area. I would check to see if the wire/connections are ok and maybe a re-alignment of the antenna as maybe it has shifted over the years. Ask any neighbours about their reception to use as a baseline. For only 1-2 channels it may not be worth it to spend any money.
