The only KNR-TV I find that matches your title is the Greenland Public Broadcaster, so I would doubt they have any over-the-air presence in Canada. Specialty cable or satellite sure, but unless I'm missing something they probably aren't something you can grab with an antenna as a local station.

Ok I don't know much about all this digital, hd, over the air stuff, all I know is that I've been using "rabbit ears" to get 2 channels, CBC and CTV. I live in kentville nova scotia and have always been able to get these 2 channels and I love it...well loved it. Recently we had a 3 day power outage, I don't know if it has anything to do with it but when the power came back on, I only now can get CBC, my beloved CTV is gone! Its just white nose now, it was my best station now it is no where's to be found. Can anyone help me on this? I just want to be able to watch CTV with my rabbit ears for free:( thank you in advance:)

welcome aboard kenny...
Since you had a 3 day power outage, are you sure CTV is even back on the air again?
Maybe they suffered some sort of failure due to the outage? Ask your neighbors if they are receiving
it Over the Air. If they aren't either I would try emailing the local CTV affiliate and explain what you just explained here.
Look for the reception thread associated with your area, Someone in there may know what's up..

PS - the rabbit ears ur using. Are they just rabbit ears? or are they Rabbit ears
with a built in Made in China amplifier? If there's an Amplifier, try using just normal
rabbit ears, no amp.

What channel did you get CTV on? While CJCH is generally on a VHF channel (2-13), there are some UHF repeaters as well. If you just suffered a power outage, perhaps the TV reset itself to "CATV" or "Cable" mode instead of antenna (over the air mode) mode. (Cable channels above ch. 13 are not the same as over the air channels above 13.)

(It would help if you let us know what part of Nova Scotia you're in.)

Check the setup on your TV, and make sure the tuning mode is "Antenna" or "OVer-the_air", and not "CATV" or "Cable" or "HRC" or "IRC".

Of course, if your TV is old enough just to have two dials for VHF and UHF tuning, you can ignore this post. :-)

I've never heard of TVs spontaneously switching from antenna to cable reception - even so, wouldn't that just change the received channel number?

I believe he said he lived in Kentville NS. Just the same, what channel was CTV on?

Given the weather you had if your antenna's outdoors you may need to check some connections. Ask your neighbours (if any still use rabbit ears!) if it's coming in for them. It's quite possible CTV hasn't gotten around to re-activating the site after the big outage. They very likely lost power too, may even still have a power line down, and their backup generator's probably out of gas by now. Give them a call in Halifax and ask for engineering, and tell them about the outage.

I'm not sure that I have either, but since the power was off for awhile, I figured the tuner might reset to factory defaults if it didn't store things in non-volatile memory. I know older electronic tuners that were like this.

I think CJCH-TV-1 repeater on channel 10 near Dellhaven serves Kentville, so my suggestion would not apply.

I think that is the most likely scenario. Can't find any info on the CTV Atlantic website, but that's no surprise :-(.

I've gotten the best results when phoning them directly, rather than emailing. CTV Atlantic switchboard: Tel 902-453-4000

Does anyone else in the HRM have more difficulty getting Global than CTV and CBC? I'm only able to get unbearable snow... The other 2 come in fine with my 4 bay antenna...

Looking forward to all digital this fall! Any updates on how the transition is going for our 3 broadcasters?

My reception quality decreases as the channel # increases. I too can hardly wait! To my knowledge CBC's still planning to miss the deadline (with no firm DTV date), CTV's new antennas should have arrived but haven't been installed yet, and Global's planning a flash cut on Aug 31. I'll make another round of phone calls later this month to confirm but it's likely more of the "hurry up and wait" game.

Lordhelmet.
The antenna has been there for years (they are using the transmitter tower owned by CHUM Radio for digital instead of the Stick owned by CBC on Geizer's Hill). CTV transmitter (not antenna) may have arrived and is awaiting installation. C100, Q104, Kool 96-5, 101.3 The Bounce, Live 105 and Z103 all use the same stick.

I knew CTV was using the CHUM tower, but didn't see any antennas that looked like TV use to me on it. When I spoke to the Chief Engineer at CTV on November 5 I understood the antenna was about to be ordered - maybe he said transmitter. Either way, testing was to happen through February-March with broadcasting underway around May-June.

If the TV antenna is actually up, could you clarify which one it is or where on the tower it is?

Boy, colour me embarrassed, I posted without thinking.

The CHUM Tower has been there for years; not the antenna.

When LIVE105 added their transmitter last August, Pippin Technical of Saskatoon came in for a week and did all the grunt work. Work on the tower itself occurred between the non-ratings hours of 1AM and 5 AM, when turning off the other radio stations would not be as big of an issue.

As of last fall, the goal as I was told was to beat the August deadline for install of the HD transmitter and that both the Halifax and Canning would go HD. (Dunno about the rest of the Maritimes). That of course would depend on the availability to schedule Pippin and the arrival of the equipment.

The Canning Tower is high enough to receive the HFX signal. It then rebroadcasts it. All the commercial cut-ins for all 4 maritime stations (HFX/ Cape Breton/ Moncton and Saint John, as well as /A\ Atlantic) are now sent by fibre from Toronto instead of from the basement of CTV HFX.

I was wondering if they were somehow going to multiplex the UHF signal onto the existing FM transmitting antennas... I drove out that way today and there was nothing new on the stick antenna-wise. Also not much room for new antennas apparent much above the treeline. Good to know about the contractors, thanks.

I hadn't heard anything about Canning going HD but that will improve coverage! Any word on Sydney/Cape Breton?

Here is my location and tv fool results:

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3dc77abd6f20f6d4

I am looking to get CJLW-tv or CJWN-tv (same channel)

Do you think it is possible to get either?

If so what antenna and pre amp would I need?

It is analog and I may be too far but would like to be able to get it if possible.

Hi, I was just looking at your TVFool report and unfortunately the NM numbers for those 2 stations are way too low for reception at your location. It's unfortunate that those transmitters are so weak! Here are their listings from the Industry Canada database (http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/Canada_TV_Stations/):NF Deer Lake OP 8 CJLW-TV 491523 -573025 129.0 55 2500 480 180.00 -
NF Corner Brook OP 10 CJWN-TV 485655 -575819 88.5 88 14750 6070 192.00 -When you ran your TVFool report what antenna height did you enter?

Also, use the online maps feature, and position your location exactly, including specifying the height above ground level for your antenna.
Resolving to the postal code level (which in your case may be the postal code for the local post office) won't give a good indication of your potential results.

Not sure if you got misinformation or not. Cornerbrook is not a mandatory market, so your CBC OTA station on channel 2 less than 2 miles from you should continue broadcasting in analog after the digital switchover. You should be able to get ch. 2 with indoor rabbit ears. Ch 5 would need a rooftop antenna, but there is no need for that since it's the same as channel 2. NTV OTA is a lost cause. And of course, for CTV (which NTV no longer broadcasts except for the news), you would need satellite.)
