z0z0 combining two antenna take patience and time. There is phase difference and problems etc.

I found that when I was using a 4228 and 4221 on the same pole I had to close the angle between the antenna's because the signal on Fox would drop almost in half.

After this I had great results and using a Samsung 451 got 10 out of 10 on all signals from Buffalo and the Cn tower, except Sun that was at 8 bars.

I had setup the 4228 for max signal on Nbc and then tuned the 4221 for Fox. After I combined the signals Fox droped from 10 to 5 to 6 bars. I began to findle with closing the angles on the 4221 and Fox came back at 10.

By the way that's great results you got from the square shooter, but I dont think most people would get great results compared to a 4221 or 4228.

The gain from the square shooter is only 4 to 7 db while a cm4221 is on average 11 to 15db.

To me its great when someone gets satisfactory results with their gear, and I personally recommend the Square Shooter for some situations, but to eliminate guesswork and possible disappointment in fringe to deep fringe scenarios like Buffalo-to-Toronto I always try to recommend the tried-and-true solutions like the CM422X antennas.

Note - I was using the SS-2000 which has a 17 db preamp built in.

Yaamon - how big was your angle between the 4228 and 4221? For me the angle was about 45 degrees. I thought that since I was not getting any good strength for Toronto stations from the CM4228 that the 4221 would provide the "strong primary" signal and the stuff coming from the 4228 would like like multipath signal and rejected by the tuner. Maybe I am out to lunch - but it was fun playing until my rig got blown over.

I live in the WinstonChurchill South of Q.E.W. area and I was thinking of buying a Wiegard SS2000 for my Plasma LG T.V. Where can you buy it around here and how Much will if cost or do you recommend another HDTV Antenna? Where would you Place that Antenna?

From Tjones357 I was thinking of buying a Wiegard SS2000 for my Plasma LG T.V. Where can you buy it how Much will if cost or do you recommend another HDTV Antenna? Where would you Place that Antenna?I bought mine at Able Antenna in Whitby for around $180. They are only open Mon/Fri though last I checked. I currently have mine mounted in the attic with passable results but will be moving it outside to the roof at some point in the future. Higher the better is of course the rule. Check out Stampeders links for his antenna recommendations.

As for me, I didn't mind the expense of taking a chance on the SS2000 and so far have been pleased with the results. I'm located in Whitby near the lake and have clear line of site to the lake though. I have only lost the weaker Buffalo stations twice in driving rainstorms athough I have noticed lately I lose CTV and perhaps Sun TV on skip days when I pick up all the Rochester stations. I was getting the odd pixilation at times on some stations that adding a variable attenuator has helped. This is due more to my Expressvu 9200 though as my TV's atsc tuner seems to handle the signal much better.

I only use the SS2000 for digital signal as there is significant ghosting on the analog channels so I suspect moving the antenna outside might correct this as well as perhaps making the attenuator uneeded. So if you decide to go the SS2000 route, I would keep in mind that there doesn't seem to be a lot of feedback on actual use of these units around these parts so don't be disappointed if your results are not as good as mine.

If you like - I could bring may SS-2000 over to your place for a test drive. PM me and we can meet. I am in Dixie + Burnhamthorpe area.

It seems the Winegard ss-2000 is a good antenna. Anyone have opinions about the ms-2000 UFO, or the ss-3000? the latter's an indoor antenna. There's also a channel master 3000, anyone tried it?

Welcome here borgninee, have you had a chance to look through the OTA Forum yet? Please click on the links in my signature for a good start on answers to your questions.

BTW I just read your post in the GTA Results thread and I have to agree with HDTV101 that you might be in a no-win situation for OTA... :(

If you do want to try a multidirectional antenna in your GTA location be aware that they are terribly prone to multipath interference in urban areas, given that Canada uses the ATSC standard of digital television rather than DVB-T in the UK, which is superior in that department.

I hope that with a good outdoor multidirectional antenna I'll at least get cbc and ctv. the search box found no posts at all in these forums about the ms-2000 or cm 3000, so I'll probably go for an ss-2000 and hope for the best. It only costs 2 months worth of rogers cable subscription!

I have the SS-3000... it's great. I live in a downtown apartment, and even if I move the antenna so it doesn't have line of sight of the broadcast towers, the analog remains very clear, and digital stations... holy smokes... rock solid. I would recommend it.:)

That's good to hear. Is it sturdy enough to put out on a balcony or is it strictly indoor-only?

with the right pole mount, you could put it outside... provided you're using waterproof RG-6.

Any chance either of you would be able to take it apart and take some pictures so we can se what makes it work?

I live in Port Colborne and am 20 miles from Niagara Falls, NY and 20 miles from Buffalo, NY. Do you think a Winegard SS-2000 would be a good investment? I currently have a Zenith Silver Sensor but in order for me to get a good signal I need to open the window it's point out. I want an outdoor antenna but nothing huge so the Square Shooter looks good. Is it worth the upgrade?

Also: Will the amplified version be enough to run a coax cable about 30ft/40ft?

sorry, I paid too much to take apart my sharp shooter. I'm sure its insides look similar to the insides of that giant RCA "wing shaped" antenna you can get at The Source. If I had a digital camera, I'd take close-up pictures of it for you. It also comes with a small pre-amp. Which I'd say boosted the signal maybe 6db?
