Why do they still make an antenna that goes to channel 83?Maybe Spinal Tap designed it right after they redesigned their amps to go to 11! :D Actually my guess is that Wade just didn't want to spend the $$$ to retool their manufacturing process when nobody will notice anyway, especially if its one of the product lines they purchased in the Delhi buyout (I'm not sure if it was or not).

This wonderful passage about the Terk-55 antenna was copied and pasted from a post Tigerbangs made at the Home Theater Spot:

http://www.hometheaterspot.com/htsthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB55&Number=731113&Searchpage=1&Main=730741&Words=terk+&topic=&Search=true#Post731113

If one more person comes on this forum and suggests the Terk 55 for anything other use than as a baseball bat, I will hunt them down and beat them with their beloved antenna until finally relent or bleed to death, whichever happens sooner matters not in the least to me! How many people have to spend their hard-earned money on this turkey, only to find out that it is about as useful as sticking a finger in a crumbling dike? Give me the $75-100 you spend on that piece of excrement, and I will actually get you some TV reception!
There, you've been warned!!! :D For those of you who don't know, Tigerbangs has been doing antenna installations for over 30 years.

I am still thinking about something smaller than 4228/4221 or whatever else that will get me in trouble with the wife.

The winegard squre shooter does not have that much gain compared to the 4221 on average 6 to 7 db less throught the band.

I am still thinking about something smaller than 4228/4221 or whatever else that will get me in trouble with the wife.Mike, a Winegard Square Shooter is an urban antenna suitable for within 50-60km at the most. Buy a CM4221 or CM4228. This is just a quick note of advice so you don't waste your money.

Why were the Channel Master antennas excluded??

That Winegard Square Shooter overpriced for the performance you would get.

I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to all of this, but I've learned a lot from reading these forums. I want to thank everyone here for introducing me to this wonderful new world of OTA HDTV!

I just picked up a Samsung T451 to try out (I've been waiting to try out the HD capabilities of my Sony TV). Just hooked it up for the first time yesterday. Using a set of Jensen rabbit ears in my basement I have been able to pick up a few Buffalo stations in both SD and HD...namely Fox, ABC and PBS. NBC tried coming through this evening, but it wasn't a strong signal.

My goal is to get the Buffalo channels and Toronto channels (the Buffalo channels are more important to me though). Here's the thing...due to various factors I'd rather not mount anything outdoors, and I don't want to have to use a rotor.

I just bought a Winegard Sensar III GS-2200 off of eBay. I've searched the forums and haven't seen any comments about it so I'm not sure what to expect. When I get it I will try an attic install first to see what kind of reception I will get. If that fails (it's got to be better than my rabbit ears!) then I'll try it outside (which I am reluctant to do). If all else fails, I guess I'll have to look at something like the CM4221 (unless someone can suggest something better).

The Winegard Sensar III GS-2200 is new to me too, so this will be good info.

Here is Winegard's web page for that Sensar GS-2200 product, which reminds me of the antenna Winegard produces for the RV market.

http://www.winegard.com/offair/sensar.htm

From what I'm seeing there about its claimed reception area you'll get Buffalo and Global Fort Erie just great, but Toronto is at the fringe of that antenna's capabilities so you will probably find it unsatisfactory.

Given that you've already purchased a Samsung T451 tuner you will have the "top of the pyramid" problem in which all your great gear is throttled by the antenna, no matter how good the gear is. I say go right to the Channel Master 4221, Wade 4BT-1483, or Winegard PR-4400 decision. All of these are highly regarded 4-way bowtie reflector antennas that will do great in your situation.

Thanks for the info, Stampeder. I'll see what I can find out about those other antennas (including availability) and let you know how things turn out with the GS-2200.

Is there a significant quality or reception difference between the T451 and T151? I've got 30 days to return the T451 if I can find a good deal on a T151.

There were some comments made about Terk in general. I have not seen any comments about clip-on TV antenna for satellite dishes (Terk TV44). How good are these, since I already have a satellite subscription with Dishnetwork, and I want local Canadian OTA broadcast? I have a clear sight of Seymour mountain on the north slope in Coquitlam (V3L 7J1), at the border with Port Moody. At the south side there is a hill, and I am not interested in any more US channels. What are my option to receive current broadcast and future HD broadcast? I have a pole on the roof on which the dish is located and the upper part can be used for an OTA-antenna.
4DTV HD, if this Terk does the job, can you provide this too?

I have not seen any comments about clip-on TV antenna for satellite dishes (Terk TV44).

I tried one of these, thinking it would be relatively invisible compared to a real OTA antenna and less likely to attract the ire of condo neighbors/strata council, and it sucked. I think I could have done better with a bent piece of coat hanger wire. If you can put one up without annoying neighbors, go with a real antenna.

In a general sense...all else being equal, would the "arrow" yagi design of an antenna outperform a "bowtie" design if both were rated at 60 miles?

From what I understand, the bowtie is better for collecting scattered signals while the yagi has to point directly.

I know there are a lot of variables but like I said, in the general sense is performance about the same?

Also, is there a straight forward installation guide for outdoor antenna or is it better to have a professional do it? With the grounding of wires etc...

and also if you go to Channel Master's web site I believe they still have a link to an old 1980s manual that is still fine for what you want.

Does anyone have any experience with the Winegard PR8800 8-Bay ? Ebay sellers are claiming it's "THE BEST" . About $65 US compared to $50 US for the CM4228. I would like to pick up Seattle stations from Tsawwassen, as well as CTV of course.

Can 4DTV_HD please contact me?
