King Kong won't play.
Immediately following, I load Serenity and it plays a-ok.
Reload King Kong, won't play. Reload Serenity, a-ok.
This leads me to believe that my King Kong disc is a dud.
First and only problem with my player/discs.
Original firmware.

Has anyone encountered similar problems with Kong or any other discs?
The disc is going back to the store, of course, but I would appreciate hearing anyone's thoughts.

Timbo,

King Kong will not play if you have not updated your A1 with firmware 2.0.

Thanks mfabien, if only Toshiba would send me the disc, I'd be good to go. I've been waiting for months.
I was looking forward to the update for analogue Tru HD anyhow.

You can download it and burn it. It's quick and painless if you have a cd burner.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, guys.
I can bend a golf shot most ways, juggle apples and oranges but the last thing I burned was on the stove.
Tech savvy, I'm not.
(Yes, I know, burning a disc hardly requires 'tech savvy')

P.S. Miracle of Miracles, I spoke with an actual live person at Toshiba Canada Friday at 10 minutes before 5 o'clock. "The disc is in the mail."

I did send in a registration card in August 2006. Also, I made two previous online requests for the 2.0 disc

Top marks and thanks to Brian at Toshiba Canada tech support. He said the firmware disc was going in the mail Friday and it was in my hands the following Wednesday.

The firmware update allows King Kong to play. Unfortunately, the update doesn't do anything to improve the movie. (which is off-topic and just my opinion)

Download it from where?

Just connect your LAN, via RJ45, in the back of the player... it will find the download site by itself.

If you wish to burn a CD:

Can't find V1.3 image yet for the A2.

I would but room where router and HD A2 are 2 floors apart

If you have a small TV, you can connect via Composite Video (yellow) and use the RJ45 connection to update (again, make sure there are no disk in the tray).

There's always a way if you want to make a more permanent connection. One would be a wireless bridge product (often sold for game consoles) like the Linksys Wireless-G Game Adapter (WGA54G). Another would be ethernet over power line adapters, like the Linksys Instant PowerLine Etherfast Bridge (PLEBR10).

Or, you could just move the player to the router, update it, then move it back like mfabien suggests.
