Once this is confirmed working it would be great to have a "How to" sticky. I know there are lots of stickies already on this forum but this would be a well sought-after topic.

If the rumours are true than Motorola will be releasing a firmware upgrade next year that will allow bigger drives and external drives.
Who knew that year would actually turn into three years?!

Well, here in CogecoLand we're stuck at firmware 16.53 so it could be four years.

i have a question i have a dct 6412 that has 2 different addresse on it is this normal 1 on the box ua0000 and the 1 on the screen is 0710

This is caused by the device losing its memory. The UA can be reset back to normal, but only at a Motorola authorized repair facility. I've heard that people on eastlink and cogeco can use these units.

I just thought I'd relate my experience to you. DCT 6412 hard drive crashed, I ordered the exact hard drive specified in this thread, opened up the PVR, replaced it, and after a few minutes it booted up, with a working hard drive. It's that easy.

Hmmm, apparently with firmware 16.74 you can now use larger drives... but only for Shaw? Too bad...

Which page of this thread has the actual instructions?

1. Remove the power cord from the DVR
2. Remove the top cover using Nintendo "security bit (http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/22-1150&CAWELAID=220251912)"
3. Remove the existing hard disk
4. Replace with larger capacity hard disk that uses the same type connectors
5. Turn DVR upside down and shake to remove loose washers, screws, debris, etc. that you dropped in there
6. Replace cover
7. Replace power cord and power up
8. System will automatically format new disk and download firmware and guide data

Wow thanks Cavu. That's awesome. Now just need to find one of these bits to open the cover. Can I find these at Canadian Tire or any other box store?

This thread is closed since the drives can be upgraded. Here's the internal thread. The external threads are in the same forum.
