Just got off the phone with a CSR, went through the entire deal and pricing, put me on hold, came back and said sorry we aren't doing satellite swaps anymore.

So, I'm looking at $398 for the HD non-PVR and having to sell my BEV 6100 receiver... anyone else encounter this? Should I call bac and ask for a manager? I have no line of sight for BEV so I need to get Shaw up and running.

Also, he mentionned 3 months free programming if I went with the top bundle, but I don't know if that was just because I was switching from Bell...

I already HAve Shaw Hi-Speed internet and was going to add Xtreme-I as well, so I am bundling, just no phone (I have Vonage)

So, I just called back. And not only did they swap my BEV HD box, they gave me a full trade for their HD box, so $398 value. I guess it depends who you talk to. Needless to say I gave him a positive escalation.

wow thats a pretty sweet deal. What does shaw do with this BEV equipment? Use them for parts or something?

I spoke to a CSR this afternoon as I'm thinking of going back to Shaw from *C when the wife and I move into our new house. I asked about the Satellite swap and was told that although they stopped offering the deal, they'd swap my receivers. The only problem being they would only swap them for DCT2500's, even for my HD receiver. When I questioned this, the CSR claimed they'd give me $200 for the HD unit and I could pay the balance (another $190) for their HD unit.

I think I'll be staying with my current provider...

i think that they might not care as much about *C since its the same company.

Plus I already have their internet, and wanted to upgrade to the extreme internet. A fully entangled customer is what they like, the only thing I don't have is their phone, which is a ripoff compared to Vonage;)

That's a more accurate statement, and for someone who rarely uses a phone, yes I suppose VOIP is a good solution.

I think that's a very accurate statement. Infact I just got off the phone with Shaw's 'winback' dept and got offered exactly the same deal a CSR made, which I'm amazed by. I know Starchoices' winback team are willing to offer the moon on a stick to get a customer back in the fold.

I'm frankly more than a little dissapointed. A 7 year internet customer, a good 8 years of high-package digital cable until moving to *C a couple of years ago and all I was really asking for was equivilent hardware in exchange.

Oh well, guess it's time to book my free move with Starchoice....

Why do you guys complain that you're not happy shaw won't trade hd equipemtn for hd equipment. Would star choice or bell trade their hd equipment for shaws hd equipment?

No they wouldn't, but then again Starchoice (or Bell?) don't offer a competitor equipment swap program and neither do Shaw now). If you're going to offer a program to entice customers to your service from a competitor, you would at least think you would be able to get the equivilent service as you had before. Not much point 'swapping', if you are actually downgrading to do so.

Makes sense to me.

Anyway, moot point as the issue was resolved to my satifaction weeks ago.

Just an update....

I got the Satellite swap deal yesterday (August 13, 2006).

Gave the tech who came out for the install my old Direct TV satellite box with HU card and remote and he gave me a brand new DCT 2500. Today I am taking the DTC 2500 back to shaw for an upgrade to the basic (non-PVR) HD terminal for a difference of $100

Not bad for an unused DTV IRD...LOL

Update #2 - August 16, 2006

Went to Shaw to trade my brand new 2500 for the DCT6200 and at first they wanted to just do a 'trade-up' for a difference of $180...three minutes of discussion later I had a 6200 for a total cost to me of $113 and three months more free HD TV...with no committment.

That works out to one Direct TV IRD (430 model) plus $113 cash (including the $13 in taxes) got me...

* a DCT6200HD
* three months of the Total Entertainment Package
* three months of the HD channels
* NO COMMITMENT.

Gotta love those wierd promos...

I'm assuming you are a new customer, so:
~new customers usually get a promotion such as Total Ent. Package for 3 months
~HD channels are ALWAYS free. There is no monthly charge for HD channels.
~Shaw does not have contracts or commitments in place at all. You are always free to leave when you please.

still a pretty good deal seeing you can get direct tv receivers for around $60-70

how much would you have to pay to get an hd pvr model?

I am currently a Shaw internet customer only.

I should have been clearer...I got three months free and got an additional three months because of the problems. I also got the four outlets wired as n/c.

Any promotions for a current Bell ExpressVu customer (can provide bill as proof). I'm thinking of changing to take advantage of going HD. I have a 3100 and 2700 receiver to exchange. I found a website that gives you this huge package and a DCT2500 but I want a HD preferible PVR.

The deal I found was here

hlfire: locally i can say what they do is give you the cost of the DCT 2500 ($298) and if you want to get a better DCT (ie: HD) then you can take that $298 and apply it as a credit towards a better model and pay the difference. That is what they do here though so check with your local office before hand to verify they do something similar where you are.

Thanks Shaw Guru but as being a n00b, I got more questions.

Don't I get more credit for swapping 2 receivers? What is the limit?

I will likely chose to get a HDT receiver so do I go and buy one say from Futureshop or Bestbuy or even from Shaw or they will provide it and I have no choice.

Thanks for the info in advance.
