Rogers Cable announced this week that it would be offering Howard TV - Howard Stern's On Demand channel to its digital cable customers.

Video on Demand (VOD) is a generic term typically used to define a pay-per-view television service in which a viewer can order a television program from a menu and have it delivered instantly to the television set, typically with the ability to pause, stop, rewind and fast forward programming.

The company says that fans will have unlimited access to uncensored Howard Stern content totaling more than 30 hours of new programming each month, including: Daily Shows, Best Of The Week, Favourite Guests, From The Vault, Wacky & Weird and more.

Edited June 7th since this has now been officially announced

apparently some rogers employee was on stern and confirmed it,

not entirely correct. He said he worked for a cable company .. but then he ask Howard the question and Howard didn't know. He mentioned it was tacked on to the end of some press release -- that doesn't seem to exist.

Here's the press release from IN-Demand..

--

4/10/2006 7:56:00 PM ---- In Demand Networks will distribute its “Howard Stern TV” subscription-video-on-demand package to Charter Communications Inc., as well as to Rogers Cable Inc. in Canada and two hotel VOD distributors -- LodgeNet Entertainment Corp. and On Command Video Corp.

Along with the Stern product, the deals also include In Demand’s new “TooMuchForTV” SVOD service, as well as its events-on-demand programming, according to CEO Rob Jacobson.

With the additions, Howard Stern TV will become available to more than 1 million U.S. hotel rooms and 21 million North American homes -- a number that is expected to grow to 25 million homes by year-end, Jacobson said.

Charter and Rogers joins Cablevision Systems Corp., Adelphia Communications Corp. and In Demand owners Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable and Cox Communications Inc. in distributing the on-demand packages. The Howard Stern TV package includes on-demand video of Stern’s Sirius Satellite Radio shows one to two days after they premiere on the radio service, as well as uncensored archival programming from Stern’s old radio show, syndicated to broadcasters by Infinity Radio. The package retails at a suggested rate of $13.99.

The TooMuchForTV SVOD package, which carries a suggested retail price of $14.95, will showcase 30-50 hours of uncensored television programming from such shows as Blind Date, Cheaters, Stag and The Jerry Springer Show. It will also offer edgy comedy, animation and uncensored music videos and concerts.

The Events on Demand a la carte VOD service will feature approximately 35 hours per month of content from various genres of programming including ring sports, music, specials and uncensored TV fare.

“It’s a really comprehensive VOD deal for In Demand that will make a number of its on-demand packages, including Stern VOD, available to a lot of homes,” Jacobson said.

This was Roger's response to my e mail

In your recent email, you have informed us that you would like to watch
the Howard Stern Show via Rogers on Demand. At this time we will not be
carrying Howard TV on Rogers on Demand.

This would not be the 1st time Roger's was wrong but the press release does not appear on any of the companies web sites

Customer service folks are unfortunately almost ALWAYS the DEAD LAST to know ....

I'm quite confident that IN DEMAND would not issue a press release specifically mentioning Rogers without a signed contract in their grubby little hand.

I'd expect this on Rogers by June.. at the latest. And when it debuts.. watch for the Rogers press release then. Rogers typically issues the press release with a day or two of the service going live. Otherwise, they generally refuse to discuss services they haven't launched.

With Stern being available "legally" in Canada now on Sirius, I'm not really surprised that Rogers would pick up the Howard TV.. can't wait.. but I'm still skeptical

this really speaks about the state of Canadian tv, that we are so used to not getting to see things that we just can't believe that Howard TV might actually come here. I'm in the same boat to be honest, but the press release is out there, and Stern is on Sirius Canada now... though not 101

On Demand responded as follows to my e mail when asked if Howard TV will be available in Canada on Rogers on Demand

Unfortunately at this time Howard Stern On Demand is not available in
Canada. Please keep checking www.indemand.com for updates.

Thank you for your interest.

Perhaps they are waiting for Rogers to issue a press release 1st

The state is always crazy.. but add Stern to the mix and the panties wad up at the crtc, so that creates more skeptism.

Pay-Per View or OnDemand channel programming (IE: Porn, Jerry Springer 2Hot4TV) is not regulated per-se by the CRTC. The rules that apply to broadcasting don't apply there. That's why swearing, full frontal nudity and actual sex acts can be shown. The viewers are explicitly requesting and paying for the right to see these types of programs. Nobody can complain they didn't understand what they were getting.

The CRTC in theory - at least - should have no say about Howard in an OnDemand or PPV environment. And if they do try to interfere - then they have some explaining to do about how he can't pass muster and hard core pornography of all stripes can.

I've been sending an e-mail once a week or so whenever I had a chance to ask if they were getting it... I guess that's all we can do. Just keep asking/questioning so they know that the demand is still there... I'll keep my fingers crossed.

now would deffinately be the perfect time for rogers to put it in their lineup, with the Howard film festival, since unlike a lot of stuff you deffinately need to see these films to get what Howard is talking about. oh well!
