belgiangenius 2006-11-15, 09:40 AM Anyone have any new info on this?
It'd be really nice if Rogers, just for once, got on the ball and fixed all our issues by giving out the new firmware.
castaban 2006-11-15, 01:38 PM I don't know whether CSR was correctly informed, but this is from another thread:

klaatu2 2006-11-16, 02:28 PM You mean the latest forecast for when the date will be bumped into 2007? :)
I spoke to someone at Rogers today - they were looking into the 'update' time frame for me. She told me that the software people aren't taking any more complaints (!) because they are busy rolling out new software for April '07!!
Wish I could put everyone on hold for 6 months to release software that came out in May '05 - that will make it only 2 full years for Rogers to rebroadcast the software! Even slower than Microsoft! LOL!
I think it is a little more complex than just rebroadcasting it.
klaatu2 2006-11-16, 02:50 PM Possibly more complex, but I highly doubt that Scientific Atlanta permits cable co's to alter their software - I've never seen mention of 'XXX version of SARA V1.8x' except SC's own software. And I think it's only the SARA O/S that we are all waiting for...
MacTVJunkie 2006-11-30, 07:27 PM I think it is a little more complex than just rebroadcasting it.
Not really. Unless you are referring to the testing and validation cycle. Other than that, you just need to load the ROM images onto the DNCS and start carouseling them out to your plants.
But MSOs are ultra-cautious about rolling out any new firmware until it's been fully vetted. If even a minor glitch gets introduced by the new version, their tech support lines will be swamped with angry calls.
While it would be great if Rogers would roll out 1.88.18, it would be even better if they would roll out 1.89!

Indeed...but I think we'd all be pretty happy with 1.88... :)
Were you around when the interface got drop-shadows under the buttons? When I got digital cable waaaaaay back, all the buttons looked 'flat', and there were no shadows under them. People complain about how 'bad' the interface looks now, they should have seen it then! :)

Agreed. We've got a selection of set-tops still running older SARA versions and they are ugly! But you should see some of the other stuff out there that never sees the light of day.
Now if you want to see some truly heinous interfaces, take a look at some of the older releases of iGuide or Passport on the Motorola platforms. You'd think they were running DOS!
As I mentioned in a different thread, 1.89 has had a real makeover in the graphics department. I was playing around with it for a few minutes but I forgot to take a look to see if they'd introduced any new colour schemes. I'll try to remember to check that tomorrow.

As long as they haven't gotten rid of Roller Rink. God help them if they get rid of Roller Rink. :)
Thanks for the info, nice to hear things from an insider. Hopefully you don't get canned for it!

Oh they can't get rid of Roller Rink. I think it's required by federal law. It has to be. No-one would have included that colour scheme voluntarily. :p

You're welcome. I'll answer any questions that I can without crossing the line and violating any NDAs.

Logically speaking (yes, I know we are talking about ROGERS here...), if Rogers hasn't released 1.88 in the (very long) time that it has been out, they probably have no plans of releasing that build at all.
Rather, I suspect they are testing the next version instead (1.89? Perhaps with MRPVR ability...? who knows...), especially if we have confirmation that a later build already exists.
At least one can hope, right? Maybe the waiting will be worth it in the end... we're all just getting real sick of waiting...:(

I'm not saying that they won't rollout MRPVR support. But the firmware upgrade alone won't do you any good. You'll need a new set-top box (the 8300HDM).
On the other issue, I checked again this morning and the sad news is that there are no new colour schemes to choose from. But Roller Rink still lives!

I've sort of wondered if SA promised some feature in the next version after 1.88 that Rogers felt was worth waiting for. (Multiplexing perhaps?) I mean, Rogers may never be as quick as let's say Videotron with rolling out the updates, but they've never been this far behind everyone either. Maybe they just figured waiting for the next major update would be a better idea as far as support goes. I'm certainly not saying that's the way it is, but if I were in their shoes, it's something I'd look at doing.
But Roller Rink still lives!
I can die a happy man. On that note, I switched to Roller Rink last night, just for 'fun', and wow...I mean... I couldn't even keep it there as a joke. It's just so blaring.

Somehow I doubt this, as it would require some level of competence and planning from Rogers. I have yet to observe that from this company.
lanshark 2006-12-01, 06:57 PM Aside from fixing a few bugs that are irritants and adding the Multi-Room function. I would like to see an interface similar to that which you can find on any low end DirectTV receiver from RCA.
My biggest beef with Scientific Atlanta is that their set top boxes do not support hiding channels that you are not subscribed to from the guide.
On the RCA unit that my Dad owns in the states, it's got the ability to create 5 custom guides. Essentially one for each person in the house.
I've even written to Scientific Atlanta and rogers and never received an adequate response if at all.
Additionally I thought Scientific Atlanta was supposed to use the Moxi interface at some point on the set top boxes.
Anyone have any news they can share?
wprager 2006-12-19, 08:19 AM OK, it's been more than two weeks since the last post, and I want to keep this thread from drying out. The end of the year is drawing near, and "end of the year" was what was mentioned in the past. Are there any updates from anyone (insiders preferred)? Are we going to get a Christmas Present? New Firmware for the New Year?
marc3312 2006-12-19, 10:08 AM Does the fact that I dreamed about it last night count as an update? ;)
Or is it more of a sign of an oncoming obsession with this new version (I'm thinking the latter).
Seriously though, I have a bad feeling that my dreaming about this update is about as close as we're ever going to get to seeing it.
belgiangenius 2006-12-19, 10:53 AM I'm thinking February, 2008.
As mentioned previously, Rogers doesn't provide this information. We will get the update when we get the update. If there is any advance information, it'll likely be in the order of days, not weeks or months as it has in the past for this sort of information.
Any information to the contrary has likely simply been a guess by someone (like BG above) or a CSR making something up to get the customer off the line.

There appears to be trouble getting most of south western ontario frozen over by the new year, let alone hell. Sources point to:No. :)
Personally, I can't wait till they update to 1.88, Videotron updates to 1.89, and then we get a whole new thread asking when 1.89 will be available. :)
