surreal, good luck. You won't be getting it for two weeks.

I repeat

Rollout Schedule: (full details see the upgrade thread)

Date; DNCS; Region

January 8 - 12
DNCS E; Richmond Hill, Woodbridge, Thornhill, Markham, Barrie and Scarborough

January 15 - 19
DNCS A; GTA Central, Mississauga, Brampton, Pine Ridge, Ajax, Oshawa and Newmarket

January 22 - 26
DNCS B; South West Ontario - London/Kitchener and Ottawa

However, if things go smoothly this week, the future schedule may be compressed...so we *MIGHT* not have to wait 2 weeks. (though probably we will...sigh)

updated here in Scarborough. The update must have occurred late this morning as I was watching TV up to 2:30-3:00 time frame and no forced upgrade.

I had checked my version at that time when I first encountered this upgrade pending thread. I shut off the TV (and PVR) and then noticed that this thread was updated by others so turned on the tube about an hour ago and see that is in fact upgraded.

just as I suspected a number of months ago - directly related to the DST upgrade which forced them to have switch their software.

anyway haven't really seen anything obvious yet in the upgrade at this point besides 4 FF/RR (128x) as I haven't recorded anything yet.

I did notice the other day that my box listed a recorded program that I swear I deleted previously. I wonder if Rogers did any previous pre-upgrade fixes to find these sort of things (i.e. detached file pointer to something recorded but missing).

I hope that this upgrade improves glitches in the recording of shows and gives better indications that you are near full, etc

Cyclism, that's worst case scenario timing though. As per the original anouncement, if DNCS E goes well, the schedule for the other DNCS's may be compressed...so we may get it earlier...

The fact that they're updating the 8300HD's this soon after Monday leads me to believe that the legacy upgrades went fairly well...so unless things go to hell this week, we may all have the upgrade by next week...just my $0.02

I have the new software here in Scarborough and I can also confirm that the firewire port is active. I plugged it into my PC running XP MCE and I got the "Found New Hardware Wizard" (this did not happen when I plugged in the firewire cable on Sunday). It quickly popped up a balloon saying it found SA8300HD and then it said AV/C Panel. However it could not find drivers and it asked for you to install the drivers. I will do some research and figure out what drivers to install - I will likely try to install firestb for MCE.

Note that it also appears that the SA3250HD now has active firewire ports as well.

In fact, it looks like Rogers upgraded all STB software. I have 6 boxes - 1x8300HD, 2x3250HD and 3x3200 and they all have the new font and I have tried the firewire connection on the 8300HD and one of the 3250HDs.

Now let's hope that we can get something useful out of the firewire ports and can record on a PC or other hardware.

I suppose a new thread should be started for firewire stuff. I'll have to try it out with my MythTV box. That'd be nice...there are plugins for the SA3250 for myth that control channel changes and fun stuff like that via firewire. It'd make the my MythTV box useful as a PVR, rather than simply a media box. Ah well...

I suppose a new thread should be started for firewire stuff. I agree - especially since this forum is just for the 8000 series of boxes and firewire seems to be available on all HD boxes now, not just the 8000 series, or at least it will be once the upgrade is rolled out across the Rogers area.

That is my thinking as well - according to the announcements in the 1.89 thread, all regions listed for "phase 1" seem to be accounted for with respect to having received the update except Thornhill, but I'm sure that is a matter of simply nobody in that area speaking up yet, since Richmond Hill & Markham (and all other areas) are a go.

Has anyone heard of any "problems" that would give them a reason not to "compress" the schedule?

Here's to hoping the update comes to Mississauga (slated for phase 2) before the end of the week.......;)

Scarborough. Morningside, and Finch area. Firmware updated. It will interesting to hear of any issues that arise. So far, so good, though I was hoping for a prettier GUI :D. I plan to test HDMI. Just need to get cables.

Would this mean we can finally capture pure digital streams into our computers? (.TS files?)

Would this mean we can finally capture pure digital streams into our computers? (.TS files?)Yes it should or at least dvr-ms files in MCE. There is some software called firestb that has been written that allows you to record via firewire with MCE and there is software for Beyond TV called BTV-Externinator to allow you to record to .ts files. I believe that forum rules prevent me from linking to such software so use google if you want to learn more.

I have an SA8300 (non-HD) box with firmware version SARA 1.87. Does anyone know whether this box will be getting upgraded firmware along with the SA8300HD's?

As discussed either in this thread or another similar thread, all Rogers STBs will be getting new firmware due to the upcoming DST issue.

See the Digital Home FAQ (under help) "Tips for SA STBs". It'll be on one of the diagnostics pages.

Has anyone noticed that the [rather noisy] hard drive doesn't seem to power off when idle any more? Have the unit in a bedroom and I used to rely on this... would typically power down 10-20 minutes after I shut it off (never actually timed it). Now it just stays spinning away...

Yes, I've noticed this after the firmware update.

Hey people, if you've got the firmware, post in and read the following thread, especially the link in post 1 of that thread.

Posts saying things like "I got the upgrade, etc" have been and will be deleted.
