nathan 2007-01-09, 05:38 AM 1.89...wow...that puts us AHEAD of most of the rest of North America. (I think?)
And now, I shall do the following:
a) Laugh at all the videotron folks: Ha ha. Ha Ha. ;)
b) Ask when we're getting 1.90?
Good news indeed.
frankw 2007-01-09, 07:16 AM 1.89.16.2 this morning. About bloody time. I kill the power each night because I'm a lite sleeper, so I caught the upgrade countdown this morning.
rimgrund 2007-01-09, 07:21 AM Got the update too!
With that being said, it definitely does NOT look as nice as SARA, which is shown here:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=56155
Not sure why, being that it is even a later revision.
I was, however, able to enjoy NOT being kicked out to live as I watching Sportscentre this morning!
nathan 2007-01-09, 08:05 AM That's unfortunate about the interface not being as 'pretty' as the pictures posted by MacTVJunkie.
I had originally wondered if maybe SA themselves were behind the push to get Rogers to update, as I think it's a pretty common thought that the current SA interface looks antiquated. (let's face it, it's been 10 years since a refresh...and even then they only added drop shadows to the buttons!) I could see SA putting on a push to get their partners to upgrade if only to make themselves look good, and to present a consistent, modernish, theme to the public.
Regardless, I'm counting the days.
For those waiting for the upgrade and rebooting their machine, read the details in the other thread. Downtown Toronto is not til next week so stop grumbling and wait!
wprager 2007-01-09, 08:22 AM I'm sure everyone already knows this here, but SA was bought by Cisco a while back. Cisco has only started moving into the livingrooms relatively recently (they also bought one of the wireless router companies). Let's face it, when you are selling routers that sitt in a wiring cabinet to businesses, the user interface is not exactly a primary concern. SA was more of a end customer-oriented company than Cisco, but it never dealt directly with customers (resold through service providers, only).
However, with all that said, Cisco *really* wants and needs to get into the living room, so they will have to become more end-customer savvy. In other words, there's still a chance that we will eventually get a decent user interface.
nathan 2007-01-09, 08:34 AM Also, wishful thinking, perhaps, but can you block adult-oriented material from *even appearing* in the guide/search?
I believe it was mentioned in the past that it's a flag that Rogers can set on their end that either shows, or does not show, non-subscribed channels and has nothing to do with the revision of the firmware.
I would suggest calling rogers, and complaining that your kid can see the titles of adult oriented shows, and keep pestering. If anything would make them change it, it's that. Or a nice opinion piece in the newspapers about how some kid was traumatized when they saw the name of some show...anyways, off topic now...
Edit: I was wrong about the hiding adult programs. Whoops. :)
MacTVJunkie 2007-01-09, 08:38 AM Got the update too!

There are two versions of the 1.89.x firmware; a high-res and a low-res. It would appear that Rogers is opting to roll out the low-res version whereas I posted pics of the high-res version.
But that will just give nathan something to b!tch about! :D
nathan 2007-01-09, 08:46 AM For real? That's just dumb. Are there performance hits running the hi-res interface? Are there terminals that can't run it? Ah well.
You know what's going to happen now? Videotron's going to get the new update AND the hi-res interface...and then they'll be laughing at us...again!
wysiwyg 2007-01-09, 09:06 AM So I guess we should not expect channel logos in the guide anytime soon?
spicoli 2007-01-09, 10:25 AM Does the new IPG look any different? Maybe someone can post screenshots.
belgiangenius 2007-01-09, 10:27 AM ...just emailed Rogers to ask when we're getting the nice one. :)
Closing this thread now that 1.89 is rolling out. Discuss 1.89 (if you have it) in the thread below:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=55633
Some posts will be moved there.
I think we should avoid posts like:
- Is firewire active?
- Can 1.89 do XYZ and simply read the thread above for what people have to say.
Sorry but I'm reopening as now we are getting a lot of questions in the proper thread.
Cyclism 2007-01-09, 12:30 PM Can anyone confirm if the new firmware changes the output for HDMI as Y, Pb, Pr rather than RGB? With SARA 1.87, the HDMI output was set as RGB, which basically locked out the ability to adjust Colour and Tint on some displays (e.g.: Panasonic Plasma commercial models with HDMI blade installed). With SARA 1.88 and better and HDMI outputting as Y, Pb, Pr, the function should be working now.
castaban 2007-01-09, 01:24 PM nathan,
I thought this firmware was supposed to fix the program time running over scheduled recording time problem, by allowing to increase the recording time increases over what is displayed in the guide and that would have stuck over time. I remember reading that somewhere in SA website. Unfortunately I cannot confirm it. They seem to have a problem with their webpage.
Can anybody who has the update can confirm this?
macemuscle 2007-01-09, 01:31 PM Has anyone tested passing HDMI via receiver with the new firmware? is the HDCP issue now resolved? I hope so as I'm hoping to connect one of my 8300HD's to the TV via my HT-TQ85 using HDMI
nathan 2007-01-09, 01:43 PM Castaban:
I apologize, I didn't understand what you meant. It may very well allow you to make those changes. I got confused (big shock). You could very well be right.

As soon as I get the new firmware, hopefully i will have it when I get home tonight, I am going to test my Sammy HT-TQ85 /w my LG LCD TV using HDMI and post on here the results. I'm crossing my fingers!
nathan 2007-01-09, 02:32 PM Quick question for those that have the update...if you do a manual recording from let's say 10:30-11:00, does it still show up in the list as 'Manual Recording'? Or does it grab the name from the guide? I understand how this might be tough for the box to figure out, especially if you chose a manual recording of something from 11:39-12:39...but I was just curious.
As well, if you're watching a recording, and you hit the 'info' button, does it show you the info for the program you recorded? Or does it have the dumb features of the previous releases where I believe it shows you nothing important at all.
Just curious.
