I am with Rogers digital cable and cant find any info on what new digital channels Rogers is going to carry in 2003.
Interested to see if more movie channels like Tmns or what other channels are coming this new year.
Appreciate any input . thanks

This is pure speculation, but I wouldn't count on much of anything. I don't believe any of the Class 2 diginets are ready to launch any time soon. You're more likely to have some diginets going down the tubes. There might be more French channels, if the French class 1's ever launch, and there also might be more ethnic channels (Rogers seems to be taking the lead among Canadian services offering those).

The ones I've heard that may launch in the Spring are, DIY, Fine Living and Retro Tv, as well as some more ethnic stuff. I know Rogers has applied to carry HDNET and HD Discovery so maybe those will make it to the dial.

I wouldn't bet on Discovery HD, unless Discovery Canada is involved. It's a bad precedence to block the future HD prospects of current cable channels by permitting the US HD feed.
What I want to know is why Rogers isn't doing something themselves: SportsNet HD. That would be amazing.

Agreed, unless Bell Globemedia has signed contracts with Rogers to allow them to have exclusive rights access to the HD versions of Discovery (and TSN), need we say more?

It ain't happen...US HD feeds won't be allowed in before Canadian versions are established as long as the CRTC exists.

Agreed, and it would give TSN a run for their money and cause Bell to "get into the game" with all of their channels (they control the most) [and distribution points] and really get the HD movement happening in Canada. I think it will be ESPNs content that will push TSN to upgrade to HD.
What I don't get it why there are no Canadian competitors to the "Much Music" brand yet "MTV Canada" (1&2) are allowed to be licensed here (run by Canadian end supposedly) but we can't get ESPN (1&2), etc.
I guess more of the Canadian population is "tuned" to Sports than other forms of entertainment (Music, Movies). Same goes for TMN... no competitors in Canadian marketplace.
The cost of upgrading the whole operation to HD is what's holding up Canadian broadcasters. Why spend millions upon millions of dollars on new equipment when only hundreds of people will watch.
They'd rather keep that money in the bank. Or they're pockets.
They are forced to spend all kinds of money for french programming that hundreds watch.. why not force em to move to HD.....

You mean like in the 50s? If they'd had that mindset back then, there would be no TV now.
