Just curious to know - when your viewing a 4:3 upconverted programming on Rogers HD on a 4:3 HDTV set does the picture fill the entire screen?

I don't believe so. I have Panasonic 32" HD television with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

I get black bars on top and bottom and sides. Essentially I get a picture within a picture. On a relatively small set like mine it's like watching a 19" television. If it is a show I want to watch I switch back to regular cable and watch it on the whole screen.

I regret buying the 4:3 aspect hi-def television. I should have waited and gone for a bigger wide screen model. When I watch hi-def shows I lose 1/3 of the screen at the top and bottom. On a 32" tv that doesn't leave enough picture to watch. I feel like I need binoculars to watch a 2:35:1 DVD.

It's a catch 22 situation..There are very few primetime shows avaiable in HD at the moment so having a 4:3 hdtv set is ok for now since I do watch a lot of tv

On the down side I buy all my dvd's in ws (I hate pan&scan) so I have the black bars which are barely noticebale watching 1:78 or 1:85 oar movies..You notice it more on 2:35 film but you get use to it

Then again i've also purchased a lot of box sets dvd's like Buffy,STNG,MTM,Outer Limits,M*A*S*H etc which are all in 4:3 so they fill up my screen beautifully..If I had a 16x9 set I would have the bars on the side..

Eventually though as more programming becomes available in HD if converted to 16:9 then it would make sense to own a widescreen set
