: Any decent free web hosting out there?
Petee_C 2006-03-08, 12:16 AM It's really bad.
I tried at www.awardspace.com, but the word filters are crippling.... for some reason, 'clamp' is a bad word.
I tried to post some ebay ads online to forward to some mailing lists i'm on, but awardspace won't let me have the word 'paypal' in my html. I was working on the copy, hoping to have a bunch of stuff ready for the next 10cent day listing.
I ended up having to post them on an old geocities site, but the ad takes up the right hand side of the screen.
If anyone is interested in rudimentary html.... check out:

BTW, where is the cheapest place to register a dot ca domain?

QuickSilver 2006-03-08, 07:18 AM I know with my DSL service from Sympatico (Aliant) we get free personal webspace included in our account. I host our poker stats for our home games on it. I think its only about 5-10MB of space but have u checked with your service provider yet?
Google offers googlepages with up to a 100mb of hosting. You need a gmail account and your url is gmailname.googlepages.com
Yeah Google Pages (http://pages.google.com) is great for publishing. Very straight forward and fast.

Yah,
I'm with rogers... but they are now with geocities too. I signed up for it, and checked it out, but I believe your webspace is geocities.ca/username@rogers.com..... i want to try to keep my spam to a minimum, although I think it's too late, as I tried their photo hosting sharing, and my email is listed right at the top (arghhh)
I think my email address is already floating out there, so I think I will never totally win the SPAM battle. I've had pretty good success with the K9 filter. on my Rogers acct.
I just want some space to host some family stuff, xmas updates, small photos for my infrequent ebay auctions etc etc.

Now that you mention it since I published my Google page I started to get SPAM. So i guess the same is true about Google. Using your Google handle is going to cause a lot of grief for users.
Proteosome 2006-03-08, 11:02 AM If you are looking for dot ca name registration you may want to check out the Canadian Internet Registration Authority http://www.cira.ca/en/home.html
They also have lists of Canadian companies offering webhosting and domain registration. Just be careful. I have noticed there is a large discrepancy in the fees companies charge for no difference in service.
eljay 2006-03-08, 11:07 AM I use 10Dollar.ca for name registration (the price is...you guess it, $10/name) and MonsterHosting.ca for Web hosting (their Mini Unix (http://www.monsterhosting.ca/hosting/unixhostingcanada.php) package is $6.95/mo., with 15% off for a full year's prepaid service). I've been very happy with both.
I have noticed there is a large discrepancy in the fees companies charge for no difference in service.True enough. I used to register names with CADNS.ca, who charged $19.99/name. 10Dollar beats them on both price and service.
bgclarke 2006-03-08, 12:35 PM Yeah Google Pages (http://pages.google.com) is great for publishing. Very straight forward and fast.
And it will be a spam magnet. Same problem exists with Rogers Geocities hosting.
Having your e-mail address as part of the URL is just asking for trouble.

You could always send yourself an invite for a new GMail account and use the new GMail ID for hosting.
Lurker 2007-09-17, 06:49 PM Just resurrecting this to see if there is any current advice on free webhosting for photos. I'm looking for both free in terms of dollars and free as in no spam. Probably a lot to ask, but here's hoping....
Dog Byte 2007-09-17, 07:56 PM MonsterHosting.ca for Web hosting (their Mini Unix package is $6.95/moOr you can pay $4.95 US for the same service. That's a better deal.
Or pay $6.95US a month at lunarpages.com for more features than the monsterhosting 'Monster Unix' package, price1d at 84.95US/month...
recneps77 2007-09-28, 08:22 PM Use googlepages. You can now choose whichever pagename you want/ (up to 5 names per account)
100mb free. No ads.
As for the .ca question, as someone said, 10dollar.ca is your best bet.
JohnnyG 2007-10-01, 10:06 AM I admin 3 company's sites that are all hosted with doteasy.com. They have quite a decent "free" hosting service (free, provided you register a domain name through them). It's also easy to upgrade to a more feature-rich service.
