haystack 2007-09-10, 12:24 PM Expressvu wants you to leave the dish and wiring at your old condo. They have a better chance to get the new person who purchased the condo as an expressvu customer . It would be less of a hassle for them and the new folks then to do the install over again.
Sorry I thought you wanted to stay with expressvu if you could. You can't reduce a cancellation fee just because you want to cancel.
Mozza 2007-09-10, 12:50 PM I would like to stay with BEV, but it looks like I can't have ANY satellite dishes up where I'm moving to. So I'll probably have to bite the bullet and go with Shaw, or say goodbye to HD and go with MTS again.
haystack 2007-09-10, 01:20 PM Its in what you say, if you use the term cancelling to them they will add the fee to your account. If you say you are moving They will not add the fee, they will apologize for not being able to accommodate you .
Ex Agent EV 2007-09-10, 04:26 PM The term use as little importance... Where it makes the difference is when we will ask him the reason why he does.
-If it's just because he moves then there is a charge
-If he moves and there is a rule that a dish can not be installed then he could the charge waived
Mozza 2007-09-11, 01:00 PM When I do call, I'll be sure to post a full account of what happens.
Thank you Agent EV - your service here is so greatly appreciated and valued, even though not everyone agrees as such.

haystack 2007-09-12, 09:48 AM Mozza I sure lots of posters would love to hear of the problems you encounter, and will try to help.
merve04 2007-09-13, 07:20 PM Ok I moved to a condo that wouldnt allow a dish on my balcony, but i did install it, but was forced to remove it. The building I'm in has a Expressvu dish but no HD service. I have a 6100, what use is that going to be with no HD channels. Expressvu told me they would send a bill of $200 and if I faxed them the letter that tells that I'm not allowed to have my own dish, they would waiver the fee. BTW, if i cancled my pre auth payments to bev before the $200 charge, honestly what could they do..
djino 2007-09-13, 07:44 PM Well if a certain amount of "time" passed where they did not receive payment and no credit was applied (to zero your cancellation fee), then the account would eventually goto collections I would assume

wysiwyg 2007-09-13, 07:53 PM Merve04: The Service your condo has is likely "ExpessVu for condos". They don't have a dish, the signal is received via VDSL and it uses a different type of receiver which doesn't permit HDTV or interactive services.
We all ave to wait for the mass deployment of ADSL2+ and Fibre so that we can have real HDTV into our homes.
Nimiq 1 2007-09-13, 08:53 PM There are dozens of MDU's (Apartments) in the GTA and beyond that have a Dish on the roof and from there what is referred to as a "Backbone System".
90% of them are 91 degrees ONLY as the cost for the additional equipment is prohibitive.
Ex Agent EV 2007-09-14, 09:55 AM If the charge is applied and for some reason we did not receive the fax, or it got lost we would follow te collection's process
We would send the bills to the last adress indicate on your account, and like Djino says after a certain time (120 days) it would be sent to a collection agency. This would affect your credit rating in the future an if you ask for a credit card or mortgage might cause problems
My advice would be to go on Bell's web site to view your bills until you see it at 0$. Hope you kept a copy of the fax just in case
If you have any problems PM me...
Mozza 2007-10-08, 10:52 AM Update:
So I called BEV on Wednesday to cancel my BEV service. Told them that I was moving to a building that not only wouldn't allow me to put a satellite dish up, there was no way of doing so (there's no balcony).
The CSR was *excellent*. Not only did he automatically say there would be no cancellation charge, he gave very clear instructions on how to avoid any extra charges, and also stated that I would not be charged for an entire month of service (because I'm moving on the 26th of October, and I cancelled on the 3rd). All I have to do is get a letter from the building management stating that dishes can't be put up, and all charges are avoided.
I'll have to admit it - at this stage, I'm pretty pleased with the results. Now I just have to get that letter in and make sure they follow through.
The only thing he didn't tell me was what to do with my rented 6100. How do I return that to them?
Ex Agent EV 2007-10-08, 01:03 PM Boxes willl be sent in a delay of 3-6 weeks after the account is disconnected. That means you will have to provide them with follow-up adress...
merve04 2007-10-10, 09:27 PM well my last statement was Sept 22nd, and i got a bill after that one being 0 dollars, lets hope for the best. To the person who mentioned Expressvu for condo's and VDSL.. yaa not here in edmonton, but Telus do IPTV but im sure its crap. Atlease this gave me a good oppertunity of getting rid of my mpeg2 box and when the day comes that i can have expressvu again, well im sure the mpeg 4 hardware will be out, and on top of that, shaw gave me a free HD PVR, so I got to make a profit off my expressvu hardware, double bonus!
Elite 09 2007-10-28, 10:26 AM Does anyone know the cost of breaking a contract with Bell? Receiver bought in Dec of 2006 on a 2 year contract.
I have read $100, $150 and $200 on this forum in my search and can't seem to find anything on Bell useless website.
Thanks in advance.
Edit - Post moved to existing thread on the topic.
Ex Agent EV 2007-10-28, 06:48 PM If I remember well it's 200$... Best thing to do is say you want to cancel, then, once at the retention departement ask them. They are the best departement to tell you

One would hope that the rate varies depending on the services/receivers and the remaining portion of your contract.
For example if you had a $3/mth rental and had 3 months to go, charging you $200 would seem rather excessive would it not?
Call the business office during normal business hours and you should easily get the answer to your question about the charges. You can also call your credit card company and say you did not authorise the charge and they should put it on hold until it is investigated.
Elite 09 2007-10-29, 05:44 PM I called in and if you break a contract in the 1st year of a 2 year contract the fee is $200. If in the 2nd year of the contract, the fee is $100.
You also must give 30 days notice, so because my contract was the middle of december when started, I must call in on the middle of november to give my 30 days notice and also then pay the 100 breach of contract fee.
CSR's and retention department were very polite and nice to work with. They did offer me a discounted rate to stay.
