Wasn't sure whether I should post this here or in the Rogers forum but The Score HD is up on Rogers channel 507. Not broadcasting anything yet, but it is there. Looking forward to Duke vs North Carolina on Saturday night. It is being broadcast on ESPN HD so hopefully they pick up the HD feed.

Will this be free with the HD package with Rogers?

It is showing WWE now (9:30 EST), but the picture looks like upconverted SD stretched to 16:9.

It seems they are broadcasting everything in the stretched 16:9 format to fill the screen. I also noticed it's broadcasting in 720p. I hope they have some real HD content soon.

Still just a blank screen on Rogers here.

That's odd. I've been seeing broadcast for a couple of days now on 507.

It's working for me (Rogers) and I don't have the HD specialty pack or the SD score channel, so I'm not complaining =)

Duke - NC is not HD. Another useless channel.
Should be renamed to the Score WS (widescreen).

Duke - NC is not HD. Another useless channel.

According to the folks over at AVS, this game is in HD on BOTH ESPN AND ESPN 2, with the latter showing the game from an overhead angle, and Score (alleged)HD can't pick up either of these feeds???? Useless indeed. Why does the CRTC keep rubber stamping these waste of bandwidth (alleged)HD channels????

Yeah that was a disappointment last night. I wonder if it's just because they haven't really advertised the fact that they have an HD channel yet. Hopefully, the HD content will increase because they do show quite a bit of college hoops which is shown in HD on ESPN.

Update from the Source.......

Thanks for your interest in The Score HD we are in a test mode with Rogers and are not broadcasting our true HD offering This test has been required in order to verify signal continuity on Rogers system. You are correct in the fact that we will be free on Rogers with the HD set top box or PVR. I would ask that if any of you are seeing a blank screen but have the channel banner please contact Rogers or post your location for me. We are currently in negotiations with BEV but are not being up linked at this point, as someone has suggested for testing. This will be done prior to our launch and once a agreement has been reached, at which time we will make public announcement.

With out getting into to many details The Score will be a combination of Native 720p live event when available and all Score produced live event will be done in 720p with 5.1 this will be for all cameras including lip stick and static ISO's as well the graphics will be in a 16x9 safe. All SD material will either be in a 16x9 raster or we will use a high end broadcast up converter that uses active Pan & Scan to achieve a 16x9 image with none of the common aspect anomalies found with current techniques. This will then give the viewer a 24-7 wide screen 720p format. PBS uses an early less sophisticated version of this technology currently on a vast majority of their programming. Please remember don't judge what you see until we announce publicly our the date of our full HD roll out. It is important to also understand that The Score is in the Sports News and information business so there will be times when we have no choice to use video clips that may be considered unacceptable to HD viewers and are making efforts to avoid this where ever possible while still maintaing our roots to the viewer. With regards to our ticker and burn in concerns I cannot disclose at this time how we are going to address this issue and have considered this, understanding that as part of our License Agreement with the CRTC we have to have the ticker in the raster at all times including commercials. This is what defines The Score to many viewers. Those of you who the Ticker doesn’t appeal to may fall outside of the Hard Core Sports mindset and would hope that you can find acceptable HD viewing elsewhere.

In closing we at The Score feel that the 720p format is a better choice for sports and has advantages with lending itself better to compression and suffers less from distribution anomalies compared to the interlace format and is a better format for current and future home display technology. We are in a transitional phase here at The Score and are making our best efforts to transition into a fully native HD format but there are many obstacles we as broadcasters have to face. We have not lost site that the viewer is ultimately the driving force behind the day-to-day and long-term vision here at The Score. I welcome any questions or comments but have to warn all that I may only have time for a weekly update during this technical challenge.

Thanks to those that continue to support our efforts.

Thanks for the update. I'm sure you would've mentioned a date for the launch if one had been set, but any rough idea about when it will occur?

We first want to solve current technical issues I see some of you have reported what I described in my earlier post. Reporting this to Rogers would help speed things up. The current technical problem is not related to our signal or format. Rogers could use your help in reporting if The Score is in black as it will help them trouble shoot the current problem that is wide spread. I hope that we will have all issiues solved in under 2 weeks. As soon as we feel the platform is stable I will let you know.

Thanks for Your interest and you can also vist our web site to check for updates and more descriptive technical details regarding our HD Channel.http://www.thescore.ca

Hi Mr. Score. I'll also email Cogeco, but do you know if people in Cogeco territory (I'm in Oakville) are in the plans for The Score HD? I am a Hard Core sports fan, so I don't want to miss out on anything. Thanks.
