I think he's saying the PQ is the same between the two, but likes the new style better. But I could be wrong. I'm just as confused as you.

I guess my career as a copyrighter is over LOL ..

This quote is correct.

The new "style" is better than the old style.

The 720p ticker and non-720p ticker look the same.

So they actualy "squish/squeeze" even HD 16:9 shows to make room for the ticker at the bottom? Wow. I'm with Shaw and was hoping we'd eventually get Score HD but now I couldn't care less. Why not show HD properly with a see through ticker if they must use one? They even distort what little actual HD they show? Weak.

Can anyone post a screenshot of what their stretched SD looks like (since I don't have the channel, just curious)? Thx.

What's even more bizarre is when NBA on TNT overlaps on Sportsnet and The Score. This happened during every playoff game last year. Sportsnet looks perfect and the Score is all stretched.

lyngsat is showing The Score HD on Nimiq 82, transponder 25, channel 852. Not showing in the guide though. I guess we may see it soon on BEV.

I think so, cuz you did it again.

The new "style" is better than the old style.
The 720p ticker and non-720p ticker look the same.
Heh heh.

So they actualy "squish/squeeze" even HD 16:9 shows to make room for the ticker at the bottom?

NCAA football was on last night in HD (from ESPN) and it looked like they had shrunk (but with no stretching) it a bit to fit it above the ticker.

As far as I can see, this channel hasn't changed, and the picture is still dreadfully stretched most of the time. Which makes it unwatchable on the HD channel.

Seems such a simple issue to resolve, compared to the rest of the trouble of getting HD equipment and bandwidth together. Is anyone ever going to fix this turkey?

They stated very early in the thread that the ticker must be there, so they either need to do significant cropping, or stretching, or both to fit that "window".

Very odd.

I can't see this channel as I'm on Bev. I understand the stretching with sd programming, but do they stretch hd as well? Could they not show hd in the proper ratio, and then overlay a somewhat transparent ticker?

They stretch HD too. No tranparent ticker - it is a huge ticker taking up 15% of the screen. This was part of the negotiations/requirements for licensing the station, from what I understand from earlier posts in this thread.

I guess I don't see the relationship between the stretching and the ticker. Simply put on the 4:3 image, and cut-off the bottom with the 16:9 ticker. That's pretty much what they do on the SD one isn't it (hmm, I should take another look).

How can anyone in their right mind actually watch this channel? I find it unwatchable with by far the worst picture then even the worst SD channel, it seems that this channel will do anything they can to ruin a show. I cannot seem to understand how all these shows (WWE, Raptors, etc..) would want there programming on this horrible channel...

I for one could care less if rogers deleted this channel because this is anything but HD, more of a sad joke of an SD channel then anything. I want like to think that my eyes are playing a sad joke on me but the only sad joke here are the poor people who look at this channel and pat themselves on the back saying what a great job they have done, its pathetic.

Get this, thescore just outbid Rogers Sportsnet for both EPL Soccer and the NCAA March Madness.

Jsst cant wait for thescore to butcher the NCAA HD basketball coverage. :( Its almost comical to watch their TNTHD nba coverage. The cropping/zooming/whatever seems to change each week. :/

and OT, but how the hell did they outbid Sportsnet? I guess if it aint poker or blackjack, Rogers just doesnt care. (and so nice of SN to buy the largest plasma in Canada, while their HD channel shows absolutely nothing in HD, pretty ironic)

Why is it not available on BEV? Although by the sounds of it, this is a brutal channel anyway.. I agree, the SD Raps broadcasts are also weak.

thegman: What a shame with the Score getting March Madness. With Sportsnet Ontario and its sister channels, you could normally see 3 or 4 different games at the same time. There goes that!

One good thing: the Score is not allowed to sim-sub its feed over other channels. Imagine watching the final on CBS and suddenly the Score's feed appears over top. Wow - nightmare city!

Gutch93: BEV probably knows how horrible it is. Honestly, as others have said, it's not even watchable. It's 4:3 stretched to 16:9, but since the ticker is there, it's like 16:8 or 2:1! As 57 said, they REALLY need a highly transparent ticker.

There goes that! However if you get the timeshift channels you will likely get 2 games on CBS, so you should get at least 2 games, if not 3 if Score is showing a different game. Plus, the games will likely also be webcast so you should be able to see all games, although some may only be available on a computer.

So, we on Cogeco just got ScoreHD. I'm watching HD TNT basketball. Is the screen squished vertically to allow for the ticker? Or is the ticker just covering up part of the 16:9 image?

It's squashed.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I emailed them to suggest they put the ticker up the sides to keep a 4:3 ratio for SD, and even to keep a 16:9 ratio for HD, even if the 16:9 image doesn't fill up the screen. Where's that guy who posted just before ScoreHD went on the air? The insider.

Score Board hasn't posted in almost a year. He didn't like what we said about his channel. See the earlier pages of this thread.

He kept posting about how great the channel was going to be and how they had a special technique to make the "stretching" almost invisible, etc.

When we told him that the stretching was very noticeable, etc he went away. He may still read this thread though, although our comments have not really become any kinder, since the programming, whether SD or HD, looks poor.

The Score HD seems like a missed opportunity since so much of the channel is still in SD. I have stumbled across a couple of events in HD but that's it. I can't think of any reason to watch it squished except after a couple of beers in an airport lounge and my flight was delayed ....
