canad 2006-06-08, 10:20 AM Anyone have an idea whats holding back from expressvu adding the channel already???
Would of been nice to watch more NBA HD.. Little late now though
Wayne 2006-06-08, 11:30 AM the like the new ticker on first glance. Is it in HD ? It looks a lot better to me than the old ticker did on a big HD setup. The ticker goes a little low on my TV and the very bottom bit is cut off. But maybe this is an issue with the overscan setting of my CRT-RP HDTV.
Today, Score Television Network announced that it was now using what it calls the first native 720p ticker.
Anybody notice?

And what has ESPN, ABC and FOX been using the past few years?
I don't believe they have tickers on screen all the time do they?

who cares? how about having some actual 720p content.

ESPN 2 does. ESPN runs it at :26 and :56.
Just looked. I believe the ticker is smaller than it used to be...?
And too bad the ticker is clearer than the programming...
dm_4u 2006-08-19, 11:08 AM Has anyone heard if Bell will be adding this channel, (Score-HD), in the Fall???
deltafin 2006-08-21, 09:02 PM The Score-HD sucks. They should call the channel The Score HD ticker and stretched SDTV. I hope they will start having real HD content instead of boasting about a 720p ticker! How can they compete with TSN HD and Sportsnet HD?
guido 2006-08-22, 11:11 AM and for the record I have a pvr recording "before 720p ticker" and "after" .. looks the same to me. The changed ticker looks better than the old pre-HD ticker
Guido, on one hand you seem to say they look the same and then you say the new one looks better. I'm confused?
How can they compete with TSN HD and Sportsnet HD?
Deltafin, technically they're not supposed to compete directly with those two.
Their licence is really supposed to be to broadcast scores and updates. (yeah that competes with TSN and Sportsnet News programs but only in the same kind of way that Headline news station competes with the CTV National news and not the entire CTV network)
guido 2006-08-23, 09:04 AM Guido, on one hand you seem to say they look the same and then you say the new one looks better. I'm confused?
Sorry I knew that was confusing.
The "new" ticker I meant the one they have in place now compared to the one they had in place since the beginning of the Score.
The "720p" and the "widescreen" tickers are the same.
I'm still confused. How can you say they look the same and one looks better. Your last post didn't clarify what you meant (at least not to me).
You're saying that the 720P and the WS tickers are the same: how - size, PQ, what??? And if they're the same, how can the new one look better?
shabbs 2006-08-23, 10:43 AM I'm still confused. How can you say they look the same and one looks better. Your last post didn't clarify what you meant (at least not to me).
I think he's saying the PQ is the same between the two, but likes the new style better. But I could be wrong. I'm just as confused as you.
nfitz 2006-08-23, 02:27 PM Is this channel ever going to be fixed? Any time I have ever turned it over, the picture has looked horribly stretched rendering it unwatchable - I thought at first it was just a beta test; but it's been a while now.
If I recall from earlier in this thread, the ticker is a "must have" for this channel (CRTC?). Therefore any material will either be horribly stretched or cropped. Even HD stuff. There was some HD a while back, but it was also stretched, due to the ticker.
The person from Score made it sound as though some "algorithm" would make the viewing palatable, but I haven't see it.
nfitz 2006-08-23, 05:26 PM Sounds like BS to me. I guess cropping would be in order if they are getting a WS picture coming in ... but I think they do that now on the SD channel with a SD picture, so I don't see a huge issue there.
But I see no reason to stretch the picture, if they need to do that, they've purchased the wrong equipment. If they don't plan to fix it, Rogers might as well just dump the channel completely, it's a huge waste of bandwidth, and I don't see how anyone could watch it.
robby 2006-08-23, 06:21 PM So they actualy "squish/squeeze" even HD 16:9 shows to make room for the ticker at the bottom? Wow. I'm with Shaw and was hoping we'd eventually get Score HD but now I couldn't care less. Why not show HD properly with a see through ticker if they must use one? They even distort what little actual HD they show? Weak.
Can anyone post a screenshot of what their stretched SD looks like (since I don't have the channel, just curious)? Thx.
gdewar 2006-08-23, 06:29 PM Robby - a PM awaits you...
