Actually, EV still owns the receiver and dish equipment.
No, they abandoned it. My correspondence asking about the disposition dates back to Oct/06. Even though I legally own it now, I'm not going to get into an argument with them. It looks like the easiest course of action for me is to put it into the back of a closet or take a sledge hammer to it before putting it into the garbage.
The dish equipment is not a big issue. If you told them to take it back and they didn't, anyone can use it.
Like you say, the dish is not identifiable so I'll sell it.
The 4100 receiver is an entirely different issue. Even though they didn't want to pay to ship it back, they may still want rental fees if it is activated. They probably figure it's cheaper to let the 4100 find a new owner and then hit them with the bad news. Unless EV signs the 4100 over to you in writing, don't assume anything about its ownership. They may even decide to bill you for it in future if they change their mind. I repeat, get the ownership issue straightened out in writing before EV scr3ws you.
Too bad I can't make a few buck off of them for the intolerable amount of aggravation they cause.

Well you can sell it
Not knowing how to sanitize the receiver and remove all links back to me, it's just not worth the money.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Kaal. why not PM me, I will give you the Address to ship it back to, via Purolator, send it in such a way that the "Receiver" pays shipping, that way you get rid of it, Express Vu get it back and it costs you nothing but a little time.

Include within the box the Remote and Cables and keep the Waybill as proof of Delivery.!!

On the Waybill record the R00 # and then away you go.

I think it would be fine this way. It might even have Express Vu call to verify you just DID send them a receiver.! If so, it should be an end to it all.

The 4100 is in my opinion the worst receiver ever release in Canada, it is just cheap and nasty, looses signals if it is too close to an older style TV and gets incredibly HOT. No real use to the pirates, they prefer the FTA, that way they get Express Vu & Dish all on the one receiver, almost worthless really. These receivers should have been given away in box's of Cornflakes....

Spoke to BEV & was told they'd send me a return box. I'll follow the instructions very literally. If they don't specifically mention remote, cables, etc., I'm not going to second guess them.

had this posted in another thread, but think it belongs better here....

i bot a couple of the 9200 on sale at best buy, with the intention to use those, however now thinking i may hold off and get the newer ones, as i would hate to be faced with them being obsolete and having to upgrade them again later... qstn is, can i sell those 2 privately or will bell charge me some fee for not activating them - i am an existing sub, i did not sign any 2 yr contract when buying them, but i did sign something saying about activitating them. i could return them but know people that want them.

thx.

There should be no reason that would prevent you from selling them.

I can only imagine that the store recorded your receivers within the PRISM system, which is Express Vu's database.

If this is the case, call Express Vu, explain that you bought them, they may require the R00 #'s from them for confirmation, then tell them you are selling them on and give a name, they should then record that data and give you the green light.

The 9200's will not become fully obsolete for probably a decade or more, they will however stop showing HD programming but not for at least the next 2 years, after which you will have 2 very good Dual Tuner SD PVR's.

If the receiver is not activated, I belive, whithin 60 days you would have a penalty of 179$ if I remember well. Best option just hook them to the TV, activate them and call when you sold it to deactivate it and leave the note that they are sold.

That said I would agree with Nimiq 1 that it would probably take a while before the receivers become obsolete...

I wouldn't activate them... Bell has a nasty habit of charging a fee when you activate a "used" IRD. Better to tell them (IF they try and charge you a fee) that you bought them and are renovating a new HT room.

It seems to be hit and miss with the receiver fee... also if you sell them the buyer probably will get a one year warranty from when they activate the IRDs.

I have two 3100s that I bought in 2005 still in the box (one of the 3150 packages) from FS as "spares". They were onsale... at $69 for the package and I needed an LNB...was the quickest and cheapest way! I actually sold the dish for $50 so the LBN cost me $19 and I got two free IRDs. LOL.

Never activated and never charged any fee.

just my thoughts...

I can't find a list of tips here at DHC on how to completely zero out to factory status a BEV 9200 prior to my offering it for sale. Sorry if I missed that info somewhere.

What steps can/should I take, apart from obviously deleting everything I can via the user menu?

You can clear NVRAM and format the disk by following these instructions (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=37582&highlight=9200+nvram). You can also return it to 'factory defaults' from the menu. I think that's it.

Why bother? Why risk causing problems formatting the disk (not that there should be any but you never know) and clearing everything.

Remove the password lock (this is really the only thing you should do - although EV can do this but it is a pain having to call), erase recorded material (or not) and be done with it. Let the new person erase timers and any remaining content. Maybe they missed those shows :)

That's perfect, Mike - I knew I'd seen something like that before!

I am moving in with my girlfriend who has basic cable. I am thinking of cancelling my subscription with Bell as I don't have a contract right now, but have one of the current programming packages. Then have my girlfriend sign up as a new customer.

My question is, what is the process to transfer the receivers from my account to hers?

Thanks,
Chris

Step 1) Call up ExpressVu and tell them you've sold the receiver. In the past there was a form you were supposed to fax in but now I believe they just ask for the name of the buyer.

Step 2) Have your girlfriend call up and signup for a new account. They will ask for the receiver info.

Step 3) Watch TV

Don't forget sign up is the time to take advantage of any new customer deals on hardware. You will miss out if you open the account with just the the old receiver. If your are not going to take advantage of that may I suggest you talk to the retention dept and transfer your account to the new place with a 30% discount for a year. Transfer is free.

A few things you might want t consider:

-Your girlfriend has to buy a new receiver, or rent one to be eligible for the new clients promo
-If she opens an account using only that receiver she would have to pay for the installation + a 35$ transfer charge. She won't get any month free or any new client's discount
-You will have to give them a 30 days notice before you move. During that 30 days you account will remain active, and the receivers can not be transferred

BUT

-You can also call in and say you want to close your account cause you are moving. They will offer you the free move (which by the way ids always free for the first receiver) and make you a retention offer. Most of the time the retention offers are as good as the new clients promo! It could be 2-3 months free, free HD PVR for a year and a month free, 30% off for 6-12 months

She si going to get the 9242 when she signs up. The house already has a 20" dish on it with a sw44 in the basement. I am going to do the install myself, so the free installation doesn't do much for me.

For new customers a 9242 is only $399 after the rebates if bought online, so I thin that is what we are going to do.

Is this offer available to existing customers?
I'm looking for the best deal on a HD PVR from BEV.
