No Global simsubs on CBS - amazing quality being shown on CBS directly without interruptions.

Yep, no simsub! :) Wonder why Global is doing that?

Most boringest of Masters though. Its not the USOPEN!

Global hasn't been simsubbing of late on the HD channels on Rogers, which is great. Shows like Prison Break and 24 are clean from FOX, as well as shows from other US networks. Hopefully this continues. Too bad this wasn't the case during this year's NFL playoffs.

The Masters broadcasts are strictly controlled by Augusta. You see no CBS logo, no CBS promotional commercials for others shows during the breaks, the CBS graphics are not used - instead the standard Masters graphics are, and only when players are interviewed and the leaderboard is shown is the CBS logo ever shown. The promo at the end of the telecast did have the usual CBS graphics indicating when the coverage is tomorrow, but that was the only promo basically.

But the picture and audio was perfect without Global!

And hopefully for the US Open, NBC uses all HD cameras as well!

Just a heads up about the USOpen.

According to http://www.usopen.com/webcast/index.html there will be streaming of several USOpen feeds, etc.

Unfortunately only available to USA. (same stupid IP based detection the Masters used perhaps?)

Now, us canadians got screwed by the weekend NON coverage of Amen corner live at the masters (we got the Thurs/Fri webcast, but not the weekend, thank you Canwest for screwing it up).

I encourage people to email TSN to see if they will be rebranding the webfeed and make it available to us canucks.

Hopefully TSN will make the broadband content available. But you can't blame TSN for the lack of weekend Amen Corner Live coverage for the Masters since they didn't own the weekend rights - CanWest Global did.

But there is less need for it in the US Open as the coverage on the main network is so much more comprehensive. NBC, and presumably TSN but who cares since it is on NBC, will be broadcasting from 1-7 on both Saturday and Sunday.

I didnt blame TSN for the Masters, I blamed Canwest.

But Im blaming TSN now, 3 email sent, not one responded to. Is it really that hard TSN?

So still no idea if USOpen broadband is coming to Canada.

I emailed Bob Weeks (scoregolf guy and host of the scoregolf show on TSN), and even doesnt know what TSN is doing, and he cant get a response from TSN about the USOpen streaming

What a joke.

Oh well, lets just hope TSN show it..

Program Alert - June 8, 2007

Complete Live Coverage of U.S. Open Championship on TSN, TSN HD and TSN Broadband, beginning June 14

Canadian golf fans will be able to watch live coverage of all 4 rounds of the season's second major - the U.S. Open Championship - on multiple platforms: TSN, TSN HD and TSN Broadband (at www.TSN.ca) from June 14 to 17 from Oakmont, PA.

The tournament marks the first time TSN Broadband will provide live streaming of an entire golf major. This past April, TSN Broadband provided live coverage of Amen Corner during the first two rounds of The Masters

Ok, TSN, youre off my bad list... for now.. :)

It was great watching the U.S. Open in HD just to get a good look at Tiger's nipples. Could his shirt have been any tighter? No wonder he couldn't make a putt.

Overall I was really impressed with the HD coverage, but I am sure some of those cameras in the fairways were still SD.... but that being said I still enjoyed the small amount of coverage I was able to catch due to a very busy weekend.....

NBC's hand-held cameras are still SD. I guess they're trying to milk everything out of them before investing in more HD cameras, but it's really annoying to watch the switch back and forth.

I'd like to see every tournament at the level of the Masters on CBS. That was truly spectacular HD.

Probably a good sign that Versus/Golf Channel HD is getting closer for Canadian viewers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know, it has only been available on Comcast cable in the US up until now. Comcast is the parent company to the Golf Channel.

British Open is just one week away now.

I wonder if this is the year TSN finally decides that showing the BBC broadcast (and thus actually showing golf) instead of TNTs "broadcast" (Lexus as the Half every 10 minutes!).

Lets pray for BBC...

TSN HD is picking up the British Open from TNT. It is being transmitted in Upconverted 1080i from 16:9 PAL. Here is a technical explanation picked up from another forum ...

I'm the technical director for The Open Championship for ABC and TNT. The feed will be digitally transmitted in 16x9 pal to both TNT and ESPN. TNT will perform their own upconversion to 1080i at Turner. ESPN will upconvert to 720p and send that via fiber to ABC NY for integration and broadcast. This is essentally the same transmission path that was used for the tennis events (I worked the French Open) with the addition of a fiber hop between ESPN and ABC. Both ESPN and Turner have very high quality upconverters that I believe upconvert and standards convert to in one pass.

The PQ looks pretty good.

HiDefBob - can you you tell which forum that is from?

Thanks.

I did not post it because some forums don't like other forums mentioned by name.

It is the AVS Forum under the thread "Live coverage of the 2007 British Open - ABC Statement"

I have found that some of the technical people from US Networks do actually frequently monitor this forum. They do seem to like the feed back when it comes to HD.

Golf on ABC.

Weir just putted but you couldn't see the hole because ABC's bug was covering it. This has happened several times. Why is ABC using a solid bug and not a transparent one?
