As long as you get TSN then you should get it in full HD for all four rounds. I believe that CBS will be broadcasting Rounds 1&2 on their HD channels, while USA network will broadcast in SD - just like the last year or two.

TSNHD has live coverage of Thursday and Friday.

Global has the weekend coverage. :( Expect logos and commercials and everything else associated with them. Expect them to simsub as well. :(

TSN will have Saturday/Sunday replays, right after the CBS/Global feed ends.

Also, on Thurs/Fri there is 1 hour of internet only coverage 1 hour before the TV coverage begins. There is also live coverage of Amen corner. Both available on masters.org

If you are not happy with the Global coverage, send a letter to the Chairman of Augusta National.

They take their brand, i.e. The Masters, VERY seriously.

CBS, and presumably everyone who has broadcast rights, are under very restricted terms when it comes to number and duration of commercials.

I can bet you that if Global messes up, Augusta National will revoke their rights for the following year.

In fact I have contacted (well, I think I have) the people at Augusta. The only information I could find to contact them was there whois info. Which at least seems to be valid. (minus their phone number listed)

Unfortunately, I have not received any response from them. I will surely follow up if Global messes it up.

I have also contacted CBS and Global, both receiving canned responses.

When writing address the letter to William Payne Chairman. In The past when Hootie Johnson was the Chairman I received two hand written replies to letters I sent. The Masters cares very much about the product they present and I am sure they will be none to happy if Global butchers the broadcast.

Yep, that is the address I mailed to.

Hope others also try contacting them, especially those on Rogers, where its almost guaranteed Global will simsub.

Canadian Open is in the worst possible spot on the schedule, week after British, no big names will be here, mainley because of the short turn around, time differance, and flight. This tounament will be filled with tour wannabee's trying to earnm cash to keep their cards.

Not sure why anyone is bothered about potential simsubbing, other than Global potentially botching things technically (sound drop offs, freezes, etc.). Unlike the Superbowl, the Masters is not used to premiere entertaining new commercials - Augusta limits commercials to two minutes/hour IIRC. Don't recall any of the past US commercials aired during the Masters being particular entertaining, either. Sound issues are less of a concern as well - full 5.1 surround doesn't really enhance the "crowd noise" at a golf tournament as much as, say, a NFL game or NASCAR race.

While there is an entertainment aspect to the commercials in the SuperBowl the only thing that matters from a legislative perspective is the reduction in signal quality.

The Masters is as good a showcase for HD as anything. Even my wife, who doesn't like to watch golf, watches.

If the Global simsub messes up the signal quality or other parts of the broadcast then that is an issue.

Theres two things Im worried about. Global coming back late from their commercials into the coverage (Do you really think Global will stick to the limits that CBS will?) and two things that sort of belong together. The stupid Global BUG fading in and out in the corner, and the actual HD picture quality. Weve seen before Global screw it up and Rogers just let it go. (NFC playoffs)

Also wonder if the Primus "blimp" will make an appearance. :)

It's interesting that you mention the "bug".

If memory serves, there was no CBS bug on last year's Masters broadcast. Again, this would have been something dictated by Augusta National.

I'll have to remember to look for it this year.

Its definitely in HD on TSNHD Thursday and Friday. It may also be on your local CBS HD feed. The best way to find that out is to tune in at 4:00 today and tomorrow.

Global would have acquired their Cdn broadcast rights directly from Augusta National and would be under the same limitations in terms of commercial time - breach them and Augusta National would pull the rights faster than Tiger Woods swing speed. In terms of technical problems if they simsub, if BEV (for example) does what they did for the Superbowl, you'll have the option of watching either CBS HD feed on the weekend. As it turns out, Global actually had the cleanest video HD feed of this year's Superbowl anyway, although IIRC, it was probably attributable to the fact that they were broadcasting the "raw feed" directly from the stadium, rather than re-broadcasting the CBS feed.

for what its worth, tsn-hd has come back late several times into mid-sentence in the feed.

Also worth noting, there are no network bugs on the broadcast.

I did a quick comparison between CBS and Global.

1. Audio is definitely messed up on Global.
2. No network bugs on either (thanks ANGC).
3. Picture looks to be the same.
