acSlayta 2006-09-05, 05:44 PM This is absolutely fantastic news! I love watching golf but absolutely abhore it in SD and therefore rarely watch it. However when the majors are in HD I'm there all weekend at the very least. A big step in the right direction for sports broadcasting.
pillcutter 2006-09-05, 06:36 PM Oh man....God be praised!!
blatch13 2006-09-05, 10:54 PM Lets hope CBS gets a greater share of the available tournaments. They are by far the best at PGA golf.
Watching this past weekend Deutche Bank from Boston on ABC was painfull. ABC should never be allowed to broadcast gold after what I saw this weekend. Endless commercial breaks, and when they returned from commercial they missed Tiger and Vijay's tee shots, only showing them in split screen. Losers.

026163 2006-09-05, 11:54 PM wow the Canadian Open in on CBS. its usually covered by Canadian broadcasters CTV or TSN.
if your like me, you like to see the big American networks come to Canada and show show our golf courses on national tv, its just a patriotic feeling...

Couldn't have said it better.

It's on ESPN this year. We won't see the ESPN coverage (obviously) but TSN/CTV should cover it well in HD anyways. CBS will be a different story next year...who knows what/who we'll see.
tomm4004 2006-09-06, 07:16 AM According to Bob Weeks, the PGA Tour did not grant TSN/CTV rights for the Canadian beginning in 2007, meaning we will only get TGC/CBS coverage, which will be limited. This year (tomorrow actually) TSN will offer coverage 1-6pm allowing viewers to see Canadian players. It will be odd not to have a Canadian national championship broadcast by a Canadian TV network.

I won't mind. The American stations are much better at broadcasting golf. I find it painful to watch a Canadian golf broadcast becasue the commentators are so booring.

But Rod Black is soooooooo insightful.

It's the only time all year most of these players will get on the tube. I doubt this will happen with TGC's Thursday/Friday coverage. However, Ross of the RCGA said that scenario could change once a title sponsor is secured for next year. So it's not a done deal.
thegman 2006-09-19, 05:57 PM http://broadcastengineering.com/newsletters/sports/ctv_wireless_ryder_20060908/?r=3
Ryder cup using wireless cams? 100% HD? I'll see it when I believe it since its NBC! (awful nfl and notre dame hd coverage the past weekend).
Go europe!
Wayne 2006-09-19, 07:58 PM But since the Ryder Cup is in Europe it is likely that NBC is outsourcing most of the production to, in the case according to the article, CTV. I assume that is not the CTV from Canada!
thegman 2006-09-22, 08:16 AM unbelievable, its on tape delayed, and its still screwed up.
Audio sync off by at least half a second, probably more, both on TSNHD and the normal TSN.
HD cameras have blacked out several times.
Black bars top and bottom on normal TSN now. ? huh?
And if those are really wireless HD cameras around the green, Im disappointed. :( Doesnt have the same sharpness of the tower hd cameras.
otown47 2006-09-23, 08:50 AM The PQ on both NBCHD channels is the same as yesterday on TSNHD.... not great but certainly better than watching SD. The audio on NBC is 2 channel.....on TSN its all channels...
otown47 2006-09-23, 04:55 PM Anyone notice the second guys following the camera guys with the wireless HD cameras. The second guys seem to be holding the antenna attached to a pole to rest it on. They are connected to the camera by what looks like a couple of cables.
thegman 2006-09-24, 12:06 PM BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to TSN/TSNHD from dropping the coverage at 11am for the NFL PRimetime thing. Yes, the cup had been decided, but there was tons more.
I cant believe they did that. I know my neighbor with his PVR is going to be pissed.

It was still available on NBC/NBC-HD for those who wanted to continue to watch it. I was happy to see TSN go with the NFL gameday show myself.

Hey otown47, yes I did notice those guys. I actually first noticed them a couple weeks ago when I was at the Canadian Open. I had always wondered how they did the whole "wireless" deal. Turns out that there are a couple cranes at the shows that have a receiver on that the guys on the ground point their antenna towards. Kinda like satelite in reverse I guess  I had always thought that those cranes had cameras on top now I know they are the central point for the wireless cameras.
There is also another guy walking around with a pole that extends up that he uses to measure wind speed and direction. I saw him do this on the 7th green as he was right beside me.
(disclaimer... this is all assumption on my part and nothing was actually verified by talking to anyone... it could be something else completely. I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken ;) ).
Now.. my question... did anyone happen to notice that there was at least two wireless cameras that had no idea how to clean their lenses? There was always a hazy, foggy spot right in the middle of the shot, often blurring out the intended target of the shot. Somebody in the control room obviously was not paying attention.
