takeaim 2011-08-26, 07:52 AM the buffalo stations i was able to get in the high 90's right now from the attic, so i was please with that, no pre-amp or anything required at this moment.
here's the tv fool report, looks like due to weaker power from rochester, it might be more work

doomy 2011-08-26, 08:11 AM In Oshawa, got 41.1 to scan in, but not lock. Wife doesn't want me moving the antenna for fear of losing TVO. Advised with TVO at 88% that a slight adjustment should not kill it, but to no avail. Wife believes Global not at full power and we should wait until September. May have to settle for analog on 27 for now.
stampeder 2011-08-26, 09:47 AM Yep I see a lot of show-stoppers in your TVFool report, takeaim. It looks likely that the Rochester stations will be too difficult to get on a regular basis, especially since their very low NM numbers are easily squashed by attic losses. Just out of curiosity you might want to run your TVFool from heights of 25 to 40 feet to see if even an outdoor tower would be helpful - it may not. Also you would need some extremely directional antennas for Rochester too due to co-channel issues from some Canadian stations, so that would mean a dedicated VHF-HI for channels 10 and 13 with an XG91 for the UHFs instead of your DB-8.

Doomy, did you do a full rescan (wiping out what was in memory before)? I was at my inlaws last night at did an "add scan" (keep previously scanned channels) and there were now TWO 41.1s - the 1st is the old, soon to be obsolete, low powered ch. 65, the 2nd is the permanent 41. When he clicks 41 on his tuner, it goes to the 1st 41.1 (the lower powered one). Once 65 is turned off and he rescans, this will be a lot less confusing.
BTW, I did a full rescan on my Toshiba and it put the permanent station on 41.1 and ignored the virtual channel on 65 and placed it at 65.1. My DTVpal DVR (also full rescan) put the permanent station on 41.1 and put 65 at 70.1 (it avoids conflicts by placing channels above 69)
doomy 2011-08-26, 10:26 AM Never got RF65, so no conflict resolution needed in that regards. However, I had not done a full rescan and can give that a try. I can live with my tropo channels being wiped out of memory if it gets me Global.
writerpatrick 2011-08-26, 02:32 PM I've been playing with indoor antennas and currently I'm getting reasonably good signal on TVO, Global and CBC. I do find that an antenna placed in a slightly different location will get Global in stronger but won't pick up TVO and CBC as well. As far as I know they're all suppose to be coming from the CN Tower which would make one seem that the direction isn't a problem, however they seem to be at different heights.
doomy, you might try using a separate indoor antenna and seeing what sort of results you get for Global, however 27 is suppose to be coming from practically the opposite direction of 41 so you may have to move the antenna anyways.
takeaim 2011-08-26, 03:16 PM yes, so i think i'll have to stay with buffalo for my usa and then see what i can do for toronto, would like to use a free 4 bay antenna i can get my hands on, but might not work with the db8 and combining.
lizardwolf 2011-08-27, 11:26 AM What direction should I face antenna in?
Right now I am pointing it in NE but I lose signals frequently (mainly for CBC and few US channles). If I face antenna in SE direction, I don't get local channels.
doomy 2011-08-27, 03:51 PM For the record, I tried moving my antenna and found I can get Global RF41 or TVO RF19, but not both at the same time. Fortunately though, when I position for TVO RF19, I also get Global analogue RF27 from the opposite direction. Can't wait for that one's eventual transition.
recneps77 2011-08-27, 10:07 PM That doesn't really make sense.. both 41 and 19 are on the CN tower...
Both are in post transitional allotments, too. So nothing will change come the 1st of Sept ;)
writerpatrick 2011-08-29, 11:59 AM There is a height difference between the two transmitters which could result in one signal being better in a slightly different direction than the other. I've been finding CIII comes in better with an antenna located in a different location than CBC and TVO, even though those two are quite strong in one location.
colinbarfoot 2011-08-31, 03:27 PM Reason for pretty good... Last night I scanned and over 40 digital channels found, I'll update my reception results when I am home tonight. http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d9e742b238624dc
by memory I had (using my 4 year old LG TV ATSC built in tuner):
2.1,2.2,2.3,4.1,5.1,7.1,8.1,9.1 (US)9.1 CTV, 9.2, 10.1, 11.1, 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, 21.1, 21.2, 21.3, 21.4, 23.1,25.1, 26.1,26.2, 26.3, 26.4, 29.1, 29.2, 36.1, 41.1, 42.1, 42.2, 42.3, 42.4, 44.1, 49.1, 49.2,51.1,51.2, 51.3, 51.4, 57.1, 66.1, 67.1, 67.2, 67.3, 67.4 Looks like the new C5 on top of my stacked 4221HD modded are doing the job, getting al TO, hamilton, Buffalo, plus some Rochester that were too weak in my new location before last night.
The 26 and 42 station were the same station just at different frequencies, I did pick up a few less using my ATI wonder USB tuner. Last week also picked up WQLN another 4 station PBS from Erie... so only good so far.
Regards
dh1s13 2011-08-31, 07:49 PM I am in Scarborough,Toronto Zoo area yet not a whiff of CITS 36.1 even after i rescan
writerpatrick 2011-08-31, 10:09 PM The only Canadian station I'm really having trouble with today is CFTO. I've also noticed that the US signals seem to have dropped off this evening, but it could be weather related. I'm using indoor antennas and don't always get them in.
Wayne 2011-08-31, 10:10 PM HAs CFTO moved down to channel 9 yet or does that happen overnight?
Jase88 2011-08-31, 10:14 PM CFTO is now on RF 9. The change happened shortly after midnight this morning.
Wayne 2011-08-31, 10:32 PM OK - I see that now. I thought everything was happening tonight not last night.
I could not ask for any better!!!
I found and additional 7 channels manually after this scan.. Everything from Erie, PA to Cleveland OH to Akron, OH and everything from Buffalo, Rochester and the GTA (but no CKVR from Barrie)
Located in Oshawa with a 4228 and cm7777

writerpatrick 2011-09-01, 09:21 AM With and indoor antenna I'm currently I'm getting in:
TVO
CBLT (CBC)
CIII (Global)
CityTV
OMNI 1 (weak)
OMNI 2
CBLFT (French)
WGRZ (NBC)
WGRZ-US (NBC Sports)
RTN
WIVB (CBS)
WKBW (ABC)
WNLO (CW)
WNYO (MyTV)
Cool-TV
I've also been able to get in:
WNED (PBS) (barely)
WXXI (PBS) (3 channels)
ION
Qubo
IONLife
OMNI 1 and CBLFT appeared this morning after a rescan.
The only Canadian channel I'm having trouble with is CFTO. I just can't get a good lock on the signal.
I'm also able to get in CHEX-Osh and Global 27 in analog.
doomy 2011-09-01, 09:29 AM Can't speak for anything that happened after the final switching as I haven't had a chance to scan this morning, but CFTO was fine last night with the dipoles extended on my cheap Phillips indoor antenna. Had trouble with TVO 19.1 last night which had been solid in the past few weeks. Will need to see where everything lies after the dust settles.
