You could definitely pick up more stations with a better antenna. Check the reception results area thread pertaining to your locale for more information.

hello, currently have ganged two 2086 side by side. do they need to be butted together or spaced apart about 2 feet? can i use a good splitter to combine the two antennas or do i need a coupler.

have found different opinions on both of these, any help to clarify would be great.

thanks

the 2 sections of the DB-8 are 60 CM center to center.
Side by side will be more dirctional than one on top of the other.
A simple splitter is good to combine them, make both leads exactly the same length.
There is a whole thread on combining, and another whole thread on splitter/combiners. Do lots of reading.
Good Luck!!

White fish, have a look through this Scarborough thread for people near you so that you can compare their results and see what to expect.

Also your antenna is a problem, so have a look at the following thread to see the very best DIY antennas anyone can build: Best Do-It-Yourself OTA Antennas - see these links (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=119489)

how do you connect 2ant. Together?
Do you use a catv splitter with coax?

White Fish: There is a problem with your setup. You're missing 66.1 (SUNTV) Toronto which should be easily received at your location. The problem could be as simple as element length, or spacing with between the reflector (if you're using one) and the elements.

Each of the channels in your TV Fool report marked "LOS" (line of sight) should be easily received with an outdoor antenna mounted at the height you indicated in the report.

I wonder if I am just not pointed right
I do get Sun tv analog
are guess there is more channels I am missing

So for an attic install with I DIY antenna what style is best
I can make a 8 bay coat hanger type

is 2 4 bay stacked good or side by side

or I an do 2 different types

I have no refector should I use one?

is there some where I can look at pics and the names of these different antenna's

I would stack one on top of the other, connect the 2 of them to the outputs on a coax splitter and the in goes to your tv. The 2 coax leads need to be the same length. works best if the antennas are identical so they end up in phase and don't cancel each other out.
There is a whole thread full of discussion on how best to combine.

ok so a coat hanger ant. is a M4That is a completely wrong statement. We are trying to help you here. If you build an antenna out of crappy materials you will get crappy results. Nobody here recommends using a coat hanger to make an antenna.

I am more talking about design
I made mine from trex (a plastic wood product) and 12awg Solid aluminium wire not coat hanger that's just what I am calling it

um what would you call what I made?

Update. I made a second and mounted it below the first but rotated it counterclockwise maybe 10deg. Now I pick up 2.1 4.1
so that's 14anolog and 23Dtv
any good for a homemade attic set up no amp just running into my tv no stb??

So I guess I am just missing 11.1, 36.1 and 51.1 .2.3.4 right or isthere more?

what would you call what I made?It is called a UHF 4-bay bowtie reflector. If you use mclapp's expert instructions and dimensions it is rightfully called an M4. Around here calling an M4 a "coat hanger antenna" is like calling a Formula 1 racer a shopping cart. :)

Here's a great read on why the correct naming is so important: OTA Clone, Coat Hanger, and Junk Antennas (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=106108)

Now lets focus purely on your reception and how we might be able to improve it.

Ok I am reading and learning
I am now think of making a GH8 or a GH6 wideband
which is better for me in an attic in Toronto
I want Toronto and US stations

also I see they call for 1/4" wire for both element and reflector
if I were to use 1/8" would this change things a lot?

You are best to see the GH threads in the Antennas R&D (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=186)forum where the experts are. If you don't see an answer go ahead and start a thread there.

I picked up the Terk HDTVa indoor antenna on sale from The Source, thinking...what the heck...I'll give it a try. I'm pleasantly surprised by the number of channels received. The antenna is placed on a shelf in the middle of the room on the 2nd floor facing towards the CN Tower. An RG6 cable then run down the stairs to the tv on the 1st floor. I've been able to receive the following channels:
2-1/2/3 NBC
4-1 CBS
5-1 CBC
7-1 ABC
9-1 CTV
11-1 CHCH
17-1/2/3 PBS
23-1 CW
25-1 CBC French
29-1/2 Fox
44-1 ONMI 2
57-1 CITY
64-1 OMNI 1

If you're just north of hwy2 (up the hill) you're in a great spot for reception. Even if you're south, it's not bad.
Anyways, you're looking good. Just missing suntv/global
Since they're of the same frequency, I'm guessing the antenna isn't that great in the upper range.
If you can, and outdoor antenna is your best shot.
If you want an outdoor antenna, stop by Durham Radio on Hopkins & Burns/Consumers if you can DIY, or Able Antenna on Perry and Chestnut/Maple if you need someone to install for you.
