Iw84no1 2008-06-19, 05:14 PM electro, so then a rotator is a definite if I don't want 2 antenna's. Man that sucks!
Unless I can get a deal, I'm sticking with 1. Though my vhf antenna's could work if I point them at the CN Tower and the CM for Buff.
electro353 2008-06-20, 04:21 PM 2 antennia is not to bad. if your out and about drive across highview and just past the school look south you will see my setup. i am in the middle of a kitchen reno but i was thinking out putting a rotor on the upper antennia and leaving the lower one pointed at the cn tower. I need to ajust the lenght of cable on the lower one to make it the same lenght as the top one. if that helps i win not us the roter. good luck and your going to love free and legal tv.
Iw84no1 2008-06-22, 01:30 PM electro, did you buy a pre-amp also?
chuckydee 2008-06-22, 08:10 PM Hey Electro I'm 5 blocks north of you with a single 4228 pointed south and I get most of the same channels you do. I have a rotor but have not installed it, I see no need to. Mind I'm around 200 feet higher then you are I think. Only city TV can drop out some times.
Iw84no1 2008-06-22, 08:41 PM chuck, south being 180 degrees or...?
electro353 2008-06-22, 08:44 PM yes i do have a preamp and cant remember what it is but i do know it amplifies uhf more than vhf. it is a master channel with 300 ohm in and 75 ohm out.
200 feet higher ? how did you get so high? - i think one of my problems is between me and the cn tower i have a high voltage line in my line of sight.
recneps77 2008-06-22, 09:16 PM chuck, south being 180 degrees or...?
South would be referring to buffalo, whatever that angle is to your location
chuckydee 2008-06-22, 09:23 PM I don't know the angle sort of south/south west i just played around and found the best spot. The 4228 is on a mast 6 feet above my 2 and 1/2 story house. Electro my house is near St.Clair, all up hill from your place and a clear view south and west, no amp on my 60 foot run of cable.

Along with what chuck is saying, don't rely on the theoretical best position - trial and error will give you the best result in aiming. There could be a source of interference, for example, and moving it 1 degree off of 'ideal' would give you a better path.
N_Whitby 2008-06-27, 06:50 PM After reading these forums for a few days I decided to give it a shot. I'm in north Whitby (Brock/Dryden area), and just using a cheap RCA indoor antenna in my attic I'm receiving the following:
2-1 WGRZ HD
2-2 WGRZ SD
4-1 WIVB HD
5-1 CBLT DT
7-1 WKBW HD
7-2 WNGS SD
7-3 WCSN SD
9-1 CFTO HD
11-1 CHCH DT
17-1 WNED HD
17-2 WNED SD
17-3 WNED Th
23-1 WNLO HD
25-1 DBLFT HD
29-1 WUTV HD
29-2 WUTV SD
36-1 CTS HD
41-1 CIII HD
44-1 OMNI2 HD
57-1 CITYHD HD
64-1 OMNI1 HD
66-3 SUNTV HD
Unfortunately I can't put an outdoor antenna up, but with these results, I'm not sure if I'm even going to bother with a Channel Master, or building a Hoverman to put in the attic...
Thanks for everyone posting in the forum, I would have had no idea I could do this!
Iw84no1 2008-06-27, 09:07 PM But is it one that you have to plug in and turn on? Isn't it on all the time then?
That's great though.
N_Whitby 2008-06-28, 12:46 AM No, it's not powered... It looks like this:

and just using the ATSC tuner in the TV.
recneps77 2008-06-28, 06:37 PM Just to let you know - Summer is the golden time for reception.
I have found that once it gets to fall - winter, you get a lot more dropouts, especially with an indoor antenna.
Just keep that in mind.. you might be looking for an outdoor solution come October-November ;)
Iw84no1 2008-06-30, 09:17 PM Are you sure? On my antenna, I was able to pick up city and even fox showed up when it was really cold. I'm not pointing in the right direction, this is why I'm skeptical to that comment.
recneps77 2008-06-30, 09:41 PM Toronto stations stay fine, buffalo are the questionable ones - ex. right now I receive MyTV quite easily.
In the winter, that station is nonexistant to me.
Also fox, NBC, ABC are not the best in the winter for me (like.. 85% uptime, maybe? Vs 99% in the summer)
CW can probably be picked up by a bare cable, so that's not a trouble station at all.
DearRicky 2008-07-10, 11:30 PM I'm in Ajax and I recently had my CM 4228 installed on my roof by forum member Yaamon here, great service by the way - fast and honest guy. Facing south exactly at 180 degrees on the rotator, here are the stations I receive:
2-1 WGRZ-HD (100%)
2-2 WGRZ-SD (100%)
4-1 WIVB-HD (100%)
5-1 CBLT-DT (100%)
7-1 WKBW-HD (100%)
7-2 WNGS (100%)
7-3 WCSN (100%)
9-1 CFTO HD (100%)
17-1 WNED-HD (100%)
17-2 WNED-SD (100%)
17-3 WNED-Th (100%)
18-1 CHCH-DT (100%, on & off depending)
23-1 WNLO-HD (100%)
25-1 CBLFT-D (100%)
26-1 WNYB-DT (100%)
29-1 WUTV-HD (100%)
29-2 WUTV-SD (100%)
36-1 CTS HD (100%)
41-1 CIII-DT (100%)
44-1 OMNI 2 (100%)
49-1 WNYO-HD (100%)
49-2 WNYO-SD (100%)
57-1 City HD (100%)
64-1 OMNI 1 (100%)
66-1 CKXT-DT (100%)
recneps77 2008-07-10, 11:56 PM Uhhh..
Great results.. except I think your signal meter could probably be a bit more accurate.. :p
It would be more helpful if it was more precise in its measurement.. I doubt all channels have the exact same signal level (actually, I think thats near impossible)
stampeder 2008-07-11, 12:44 AM 100% signal strength right across the board... Yaamon is amazing! :D
Just kidding about those numbers - were all those results with your ATI card, DearRicky? Its not realistic for all of them to be at 100% so I'm just curious.
DearRicky 2008-07-11, 05:05 PM The results do come from my ATI-BeyondTV configuration. I'm still not sure why I'm getting 0 for CIII-DT because the picture quality is just like all others (even with other programs such as Catalyst Multimedia Centre and SageTV), but with CHCH-DT it all depends on the time of day.
Here is a screenshot:

recneps77 2008-07-11, 05:13 PM Try watchhdtv, its freeware.
It's signal meter isn't calibrated for all models, but it will give you a very accurate number.
(in my case its like 7 digits, but that's a fluke, lol)
