Can you get your money back for that antenna, litor, and get a better one?

I can now recieve CKVR-DT but I have to aim right at it with my YA-1713, and it's quite stable. I can swing it the other way and WHEC-DT comes in, so they don't mutually exclude one another because the antenna is so directional.

Now that i picked up a YA-1713, I can recieve CHCH-DT on 11 as long as I aim right for it, and it's perfectly stable. Trying to get it with a UHF antenna is not going to cut it. You have to have the right equipment for the best results.

Really happy with the transition so far. Using my SBGH I'm getting all the buffalo (2,4,7,17,23,29,49), all the Toronto (5,9,19,25,41,47,57,69), chch from hamilton, and even getting ckvr off the back side. Total of 17 channels plus the subs.

Tropo must be strong tonight because I'm also getting 21, 31 and 51 from the states.

After conversion, from north of Newmarket, I've lost WUTV Fox and it's CMT sub station. CHCH (Digital, but not HD) now comes from the muskoka transmitter and not from Hamilton. Overall, receptions of SunTV and OMNI 2 is disappointing as I was hoping the transmission power would increase now that analog is no longer using the bandwidth.

Canadian Stations with CM4228HD pointing towards Buffalo
3.1 CTV2 - 90% with antenna facing the opposite direction
5.1 CBC - 100%
9.1 CTV - 95 - 100%
19.1 TVO - 100%
25.1 CBC French - 80%
41.1 Global - 100%
47.1 Omni 1 - 50 to 60%
57.1 CITY TV - 50 to 60%
66.1 SUN TV - 50 to 60% Redirect rotor to face CN Tower
67.1 CHCH Muskoka - 100% Redirect rotor facing huntsville
69.1 Omni 2 - 50 to 60% Redirect rotor to face CN Tower

Buffalo Stations
2.1 to 2.3 NBC - 40 to 50% at night (50% of the time)
4.1 CBS - 40 to 50% at night (50% of the time)
7.1 ABC - 40 to 50% at night (less than 50% of the time)
17.1 to 17.3 PBS - 40 to 50% (less than 50% of the time)
23.1 CW - 40 to 50% (close to 100% of the time)
29.1 Fox and 29.2 - Complete lost
49.1 and 49.2 - 40 to 50% (75% of the time)

Overall, happy that everything is as expected after the transition. Hopefully the transmission power of the weaker station will come up after all the dust have settled.

Cornell : east of 9th Line, between 7th and 16th, GH w/o NARODs variant looking southish out 2nd story window with CM balun and HDP-269 pre-amp.

Did a rescan this morning and I'm receiving:
ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, CW, PBS, TCT (new), MyTV (49 new, but weak)
CBC, SRC, CTY (got analog 9 before), OMNI 1 & 2, CITY (much stronger), TVO (new), Global (new), CTS (new)

I'm glad I'm still getting CTV, but it looks like I'm going to need a 6+dBd antenna pointed SW to get CHCH. My TV's signal meter says that something is on ION and the other "missing" stations, but not enough to decode the PSIP and get the virtual channel number.

I did a rescan on my HTPC running MC7 and I seemed to have lost CTV, CHCH and FOX. Didn't really notice any new channels with the transition being completed. One interesting bit though, my 24" Viewsonic TV in our bedroom is in fact able to pickup CTV, CHCH and FOX after a rescan! I'm guessing that I'm going to have to maybe manually add those channels in MC7. BTW, I'm using a 4221HD with a preamp.

What is the outlook on getting CKVR in Markham?

I am at Warden/Hwy 7 and I get all the Toronto stations with 80-95% signal. The only Buffalo station I get is 23.1 at about 25-35%. This is with a SGBH I built many years ago. It doesn't have an amplifier or the reflector rods. I used computer case panels as the reflector.

Would it be better to wait for the repeater stations?

After conversion, from north of Newmarket ....

I am in Newmarket (east side) and I get 29 well, about 70%. All your other measures are about the same as mine.

TVfool says that Buffalo, Hamilton & CKVR (Barrie) are all 2 Edge for you, which may be why you're not getting them. Height, a bit of upward angle and pointing SSE instead of at the CN Tower (SSW) might help get the Buffalo stations. YMMV.

For CKVR (RF 10) you're going to need a VHF antenna with decent gain pointed NNW.

A preamp simply helps with long cable runs and splitters. Reception is all about the antenna.

Thought I'd post some SNR results with the channels I can receive now.
2.1 WGRZDT 12 (not watchable)
4.1 WIVBDT 25-27
5.1 CBLTDT 27
7.1 WKBWDT 12-14 (not watchable)
9.1 CFTODT 27
11.1 CHCHDT 20
17.1 WNEDDT 25
19.1 CICADT 27
23.1 WNLODT 25
25.1 CBLTDT 27
29.1 WUTVDT 23
41.1 CIIIDT 27
47.1 OMNI1 27
57.1 CITYDT 27
66.1 CKXTDT 27
69.1 OMNI2 27I noticed that after the change or maybe just tonight, I definitely needed to use my Wineguard preamp. Without it, quite a lot of the channels were not coming in specifically the U.S. stations and CHCH completely disappeared.

Thinking of trying out a DB8 this month to pull in some of the U.S. stations a little more but worried about losing any of the Toronto ones.

P.S. Sorry about the look of things but I wasn't sure how to make a table with tags. Please edit accordingly.

I am getting CKVR strong with dual old 4228's and CM pre-amp no problem. I am getting almost everything fairly strong except no ION (never got it - don't even know the channel #) and CHCH most of the time.

Hey guys, just wondering how everyone is making out with CFTO (CTV)? I ask of this channel only because it is the only one after the transition that has actually dropped in signal strength (from 95-98% down to 65%). In fact all other channlels City Tv, Global, CBC & the US major 4, are all at 100% levels.

Any thoughts .

CFTO is my strongest signal period, almost to overload. Of course I'm using a hi vhf antenna now. Far superior to what i was getting on CH40.

Before the changeover, I used to get CBLT, CFTO, TVO, CIII (on 41), Omni 1 and Omni 2 (the latter both analog and digital) and 57 with my home made antenna. I never had a problem with reception - all was strong and clear.

Since September 1, I only get CBLT, CFTO, TVO, CIII and City - but the reception is spotty and goes in and out on every channel. I thought the whole idea of the transition was to give us a better signal. Did EVERY station cut back the power on their broadcast? Because that's the only idea I can think of that I don't get channels I used to get, and the ones I do get are intermittent.

bubbaganoush - 23.1 is gettable very strong with half a paper clip and your main breaker on your panel switched off - :^)

I suggest a re-aim and/or try a different antenna....something is not making sense.

Depending on your tuner, you may have to delete your existing and definitely re-scan....I had similar problems on a Bell PVR tuner and on another TV set. I had to actually manually put in some of the stations on the Bell unit.

Thanks, but I've been scanning and re-scanning - it's seems like twice an hour when I'm watching. As I said, the Omni stations have just disappeared, and reception on all the others is intermittent. I studied electrical engineering at U of T; that's why I can't fathom what's happening. Everything worked fine last week, and all of sudden - next to nothing. I used to get Omni 2 digital on 44.2, and it was probably my strongest signal. Now - gone. The only thing I can think of is they cut back their broadcast power, but why? I thought one of the reasons for moving to digital was so signals wouldn't interfere with each other. So why cut back on power?

KevinB: This has been mentioned before, but to reiterate: Both OMNI stations and CITY TV in Toronto have temporarily relocated to First Canada Place in Toronto (the BMO building). This relocation is at a significantly lower height than the CN Tower.

Reception should "normalize" (indeed, improve) sometime in October when the stations move back to the CN Tower.
