: ON - Vaughan/Richmond Hill//Markham/North of 407 - OTA
joeforshow 2008-05-27, 12:03 AM i use one myself...
i get about 18 channels but its not even on a chimney mount yet. Once i put it up on that i am sure to get 20+. I use a samsung dtb-h260f receiver which is why i maybe get a few more extras because of its sensitivity....
Obviously, the CM4228 is the best but i find this one to be lightweight and very easy to install...
I'm finally receiving a new OTA Canadian channel here in Uxbridge. Hamilton's CHCH and it's about the same signal strength as CFTO (even though Hamilton is farther away), 3 out of 10 bars on the signal meter display. I'm pleasantly surprised about this because analog Channel 11 has always been a difficult channel in this area. They must have something wrong with the PSIP at the moment because entering 11-1 on the remote does not work, I must enter 18. Also I noticed that the station call letters are not showing up in the channel list. Is everyone else having this problem?
stampeder 2008-05-31, 03:21 AM SNH, you can read about CHCH-DT's PSIP problems here:

Maxwedge 2008-06-05, 05:25 PM Hi All,
Anyone else losing digital channels the last couple of days? NBC, CBS and ABC have been the worst offenders. I never had problems before. I guess it is weather related - I can't seem to get a lock on them.
Maxwedge 2008-06-05, 08:31 PM Yes - Go see http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=26789&page=25
Maxwedge 2008-06-05, 08:45 PM I guess I picked a bad day to upgrade my set-up. I went from a single 4228 @ 45' to a dual stacked 4228 @ 75-80'.
It was tough aiming for best results because of this heavy weather. I do now get Global and Sun solidly in the medium-high range though.:p I picked up about a 8-10 db gain from the numbers I was getting of the old set-up approx 1-2 hours before the changeover. It is hard to tell what contributed the most to the higher gain....Twin 4228's, higher mounting, different aiming - a bit of each?
I completely ditched my VHF antenna yet somehow I am getting A-Channel better than ever!?! That is channel #3 folks. I guess the backside of the 4228 is sucking up that signal north of me. I will wait for better, more consistent weather (and a possible re-aim) and post my results.
viperman999 2008-06-12, 08:54 PM Here are my current HD channel list using the ATI TV wonder 650pci with a Terk HDTVI indoor ZSS clone antenna and PowerCinema 5.

I heard that omni1 & omni2 were on the air so I did a scan at 8:30pm. Omni2 is strong but onmi1 cuts in an out. Also to my surprise is WROC-DT. This CBS channel comes in better than WIVB. Anyone else getting WROC?

daren 2008-06-13, 11:22 PM I live in Richmond Hill and I'm using a CM 4221.I had no problems receiving Citytv HD for the last year or so, now for the past couple of months I can only get regular Citytv. I've scanned the channels many times over the duration but still no Citytv HD. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to test this?It seems like others are still receiving CityHD and my signals are strong, I can get New York channels no CityTV?
Thanks
905shmick 2008-06-16, 11:17 AM Gave my father the gift of OTA HD yesterday. They're in Stouffville (Main St & 10th Line).
The configuration is a bungalo with a chimney mounted CM 4221 antenna about 12 feet in the air going directly into a Sony bravia LCD TV with built in ATSC tuner.
The following channels are coming in loud and clear.
2.1 NBC
4.1 CBS
5.1 CBC
7.1 ABC
9.1 CTV
11.1 CHCH
17.1 PBS
23.1 The CW
29.1 FOX
36.1 CTS
41.1 Global
44.1 Omni 2
49.1 My TV
57.1 City TV
64.1 Omni 1
66.1 Sun TV
NE Corner of Bayview / Wellington - Attic install
Finally had time to put the CM4228 in the attic for the in-laws, as others have mentioned we had to drill out the rivets separating the antenna to Two L pieces to fit through the attic opening.
Here are the results on a Samsung LCD built-in tuner
WGRZ 2-1 0-2/10 bars
WGRZ 2-2 0-2/10 bars
CBLT 5-1 10/10 bars
CFTO 9-1 8/10 bars
WNLO 23-1 4/10 bars
CBLF 25-1 8/10 bars
WNED 17-1 0-1/10 bars
WNED 17-2 0-1/10 bars
WNED 17-3 0-1/10 bars
OMNI2 44-1 6/10 bars
CITY 57-1 4/10 bars
OMNI1 64-1 4/10 bars
GLBT 65-1 0-2/10 bars
CKXT 66-1 0-2/10 bars
The locals are the channels we were looking for and they comes in locked all the time with the exception of Global & SUNTV. Any suggestions on getting them? The Buffalo channels comes in and out (WNLO however is always locked). What is odd is that we notice there is stronger signal in the evening and when there is rain. Any reasons why? It would definitely be a bonus to be able to get the US channels, seems possible but very weak.
Yaamon 2008-06-16, 06:59 PM 905shmick, Stouffville has excellent results. :) Your dad came in for the chimney brackets last week, excellent results. ;)
Watching the US open was incredible. ;)
905shmick 2008-06-16, 09:49 PM Ya, thanks for the help. Looks like you were right about not needing the pre-amp!

I've got a friend pretty much at the same location looking into the possibility of OTA as well.
Are you going to try mounting the antenna outdoors to see if you get better reception or are you going to leave it in the attic?
stevenash 2008-06-18, 02:52 PM hello - just picked my first hdtv and i want to try to pick up OTA HD
i'm in King City, about 20-21 miles from the CN tower, so i should be able to get those stations relatively easily (just trees between me and downtown; King City is at relatively high elevation i believe, and i'm sorta top of a hill)
www.2150.com shows i'm about 61 miles from some of the Buffalo towers (grand island?) and 100 miles from the others
can i pick up all the US stations with a 4228 or just those 60 milers?
Yaamon 2008-06-18, 04:10 PM A 4228 mounted on the roof/chimney should work well providing the view towards Buffalo is clear.
Good luck.
daren 2008-06-19, 11:51 PM Hi, here are my HD results for Richmond Hill. As mentioned in Post #559 I'm not receiving Citytv HD for about 1.5 to 2 months. I picked up my 4221(chimney mounted) from Yaamon over a year ago and CityHD was easy to get. Does anyone know if CityHD has lowered their signal? My TV is a 58" Panasonic plasma 58px600u.
Thanks

Tom.F.1 2008-06-20, 06:08 AM If you get all those channels, there is no reason you don't get City. I don't think its a reception problem.
Did you try entering 53.1? Or you could try a complete reset of your tuner. Sometimes, when a channel is deleted, you can never get it on a scan again, untill memory is cleared completely.
Good luck!!
I've got a friend pretty much at the same location looking into the possibility of OTA as well.
Are you going to try mounting the antenna outdoors to see if you get better reception or are you going to leave it in the attic?
This is pretty much staying in the attic, as the in-laws didn't want anything out side the house. However I feel that at our location if it went outside we could get all channels locked.. Just being in the attic now, we're able to pick up all channels - buffalo channels comes in and out. for whatever reason all buffalo channels come in much stronger when it rains..
I'll report back once I get a chance to re-aim.. cheers!
daren 2008-06-27, 11:51 PM Thanks for the reply Tom. I did try 53.1 and I don't receive a signal on that channel either. I've deleted the channels and rescanned many times.I'll look for a reset option. funny thing is I lost 9.1 and 57.1 the same time, 9.1 came back a few days later and 57.1 still gone after a couple of months.
Thanks
daren 2008-07-02, 09:01 PM I reset the tv back to default and rescanned. It's still the same no Citytv HD.
