Terry those channels come in only during the warmer months when weather conditions allow ducting and skipping of signals. The Rochester stations are very frequent ,the Erie stations less so.You cant count on these stations. The Buffalo stations have line of sight to the GTA except WBBZ which only transmits from a cell tower at 66 metres.WBBZ reception in winter is only available if your close to Lake Ontario.

Thanks Rob for your input . I'm a newbie with OTA , just 2 weeks now and I don't know all the term words with OTA . I was just looking at the OTA TV Guide and notice those channels . I was thinking maybe a stronger antenna / Preamp could bring them in . I guess not . Oh well , I'm still surprise as to how many channels I am getting .

Hi All, I live in the Williams Pkwy & Hwy 410 area of Brampton, with what I think is a weird signal strength issue on channel ION 51.1-51.3. I have an Mclapp M4 installed in my attic (no reflector) and get excellent results with only 10db worth of amplification. All standard channels from Toronto, and Buffalo come in with signal strength of 95-100% on an every day consistent basis with a drop down to around 70% during rain storms. Ion is the only one that I find interesting. It only comes in during a heavy rainfall.

The other day during a thunderstorm NBC 2-1 would not come in at all with a signal strength of 2%, all other stations were ok. Ion registered an amazing 75% during the storm and then disappeared as the storm went away and NBC came back. My TVFool report does not indicate that Ion is a Tropo reception station. Just wondering if it "is" for me under certain conditions.

Thanks

JSA ION is likely a 2 edge signal that in summer ducting conditions increase its range.WGRZ is likely a 1 edge signal and during the same condition will duct over you to somewhere north of you.The other Buffalo stations have line of sight because of higher towers or being closer and thus more reliable and have stronger signals in your area.At my house WGRZ can have brief problems only during summer on occasions.ION only comes in during warm summer months.

Hi Rob, thanks for your reply. Just looked at my TVFool report again. It lists both NBC & ION as 2Edge stations for my area. I'm not sure how this affects your explanation, and why they are being received in alternation but it was helpful in understanding how signals travel. Thx!

JSA Ion is not transmitting from Buffalo but Batavia NY which is half way to Rochester and is about 25km further away.Conditions that help ION reach you could also make you lose WGRZ.Winter is the best time for OTA,much more stable signals on the edge channels.

That's interesting to know. I'm quite close to you (near 10th and Argentia), and find that ION only comes in at night.

Have been in and out of hospital since February and haven't been able to live at home alone...am now back on part time basis, so I did a scan and am getting CTV two on 42.2 CKVP? How long has it been up? Anything else new?

The discussion re: CKVP is being had at OTA Station Status: Toronto, Hamilton (www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=1442462) so lets keep it there... it starts with post 616...

But to answer your question, it only went live in the last week.

I did a scan last night and picked up more channels but they aren't coming in , the funny thing the channels are 8 , 12 , ( 27 come in faded ) 56.1 56.2 56.3 ... Why the single digit numbers ?

12 and 27 are analogue stations from Peterborough area.
56.1 is RF15 from Syracuse, NY.

Since just before 7pm I am not receiving ABC. Signal stays at 0. Other Buffalo channels are fine. Anybody else having same situation?

Hey guys,

I have a very simple antenna (bought from Kijiji) that I am currently using for OTA. For some reason, I've lost reception for all channels except CTV (Channel 8). I used to get about 9 different channels. I've tried moving the antenna around, but no luck. It doesn't make sense as I am getting excellent quality for CTV.

Also, could anyone recommend what kind of antenna I should be using based on my TVFool map below?

But it keeps coming in and out. Have lost the Fonthill broadcast, though. 42.2 had been coming in loud and clear for over a week, but now it's gone.

Hi.
How do I locate the Map that shows me where the Channels are in my area that I can see and the direction I have to point to to see the Buffalo and Toronto Channels? Please Help and Thank you in advance. Sorry if this isn't in the Right Form as I am new at this. Thank you.
