arrow201 2011-09-26, 03:21 PM Kevin_405, Do you live in a 2 story house ? What i'm getting at is what about the attic ?
Off hand, unless you face an open field, you're going to have a lot of trouble at 7ft i think.
I'm at Boviard / 410 with an attic install and get all the major US stations solid. Maybe
try a DB8 antenna ? a CM7777 peamp ?

Yes mine is a 2 story..
The problem with attic install in pulling the cable wires from the attic.
1> Is the preamp necessary?
2> Are u getting all locals from Toronto?
3> Which US channels are u catching?
4> Where did u get ur equipment from? How much did u pay?
mr weather 2011-09-27, 07:51 AM Kevin: you need more height on your antenna. Also, a pre-amp won't help if the antenna can't receive the signal in the first place.
I purchased a bunch of my OTA gear from Save and Replay on Kennedy just south of Courtney Park.
My antenna of mounted to the chimney about a total of 30 feet above ground. I get all Toronto and almost all Buffalo channels.
Kevin,
Height it almost everything.
From my roof level 4221hd I get over thirty channels with a ground level indoor booster.
When I scan with my 4221hd at ten feet up from the ground, all I can get are the Toronto locals and CW and PBS.
Nothing is likely to help you unless you get more height.
If you have a budget for a pre-amp, then consider hiring an installer to get that antenna higher.
When you read the TV Fool report, it shows you that you need at least an attic installation to hope to get more than WNLO (CW) from your house. The report is accurate so far.
Good luck!

>Yes mine is a 2 story..

Yes, i had the same problem, i ended up using the furnace cold air return
to run the cable from the attic to the basement, that was tricky as there
was 2 bends so, i did a search of "cable installer" on craigslist/kijijii
and found a guy who fished the cable in for $60. i ran it to where Rogers
comes in to the electrical board, so it was just a disconnect of the Rogers
cable and connect the antenna cable ...and it was bye-bye to Rogers :)
>1> Is the preamp necessary?
For an attic install, yes, i think i read the number is up to 40% losses or
something like that in the attic, so a good preamp like the CM7777 is necessary
>> Are u getting all locals from Toronto?
>3> Which US channels are u catching?
i get the following solid:
2.1, 2.2 WGRZ
4.1 WIVB
5.1 CBLT
7.1 WKBW
9.1 CFTO
11.1 CHCH
17.1, 17.2, 17.3 WNED
19.1 TVO
23.1 WNLO
25.1 CBLFT
29.1, 29.2 WUTV
36.1 CITS
41.1 CIII
47.1 OMNI 1
49.1, 49.2 WNYO
57.1 CITY
66.1 CKXT
69.1 OMNI 2
With tropo sometimes i get 51.1 from Batavia, and 8.1 from Rochester.
Everyones mileage differs.
>4> Where did u get ur equipment from?
Same as mr_weather, Save and Replay on Kennedy just south of Courtney Park
> ... How much did u pay?
DB8 - $100
CM7777 - $95
39" J-Pole - $30
cable install kit - $45 (i think ?) included 100' RG6, connectors, tools
cable installer (fished cable only) - $60
Mounted the antenna at the highest point of the attic. So, about $350
...i was paying just over $100/mon in cable, so i got my money back after
3 1/2 months :) ...now it's all gravy :)

Macros17 2011-10-09, 07:19 PM Is anyone else having trouble with Fox WUTV recently? I normally get pretty reliable reception but it's been spotty the last week or so. My other channels seem unaffected. I have an original cm4228 with a Channel Master 7777 preamp.
rob50312 2011-10-10, 09:31 AM Marcros there has been allot of tropo. activity this weak and WUTV seems to be most affected by it.Probably because their signal is directional away from the GTA.Once colder weather returns your WUTV will return to normal.I have seen a brief outage of wutv.

Tom.F.1 2011-10-15, 10:34 AM I'm not in mississauga, but i had Ion yesterday, not today.
On another buffalo station this morning, they had news, weather. Radar showed big bad rain on the south side of the lake.
mr weather 2011-10-15, 12:07 PM Yes, "lake effect" rain. National Weather Service weather radio out of Buffalo was mentioning that this morning.
digigd 2011-10-21, 12:31 PM Would appreciate some help and advise regarding antenna positioning. I am located in Mississauga near Central Parkway & Eglinton. I picked up a DB8 recently to see the reception and tried it from inside my second story window yesterday. Was only able to pick up about a dozen channels. The one channel I wanted the most was 36.1 CTS since my old neighbor watches this program and it has stopped coming on her rabbit ears antenna. I wanted to run a line to her house as well so she can watch it, but so far am not able to tune this channel.
Any suggestions in which direction (coordinates) I should point the DB8 antenna? Is there anybody on this thread who lives in that area and has some experience with this?
I have a compass. I used the numbers from the TVFool report but still not great reception. There are other houses behind my house but a reasonable distance between houses (at least 40 ft between my house and the next house). Is there anything else I should be doing?
NOTE: I ultimately plan to mount the DB8 outdoor around roof height, but with a wall mount. So it will be about 20 - 25' in the air and will just clear the roof overhang so can be pointed in any direction. I could add a distribution amp since the split line and long length may weaken the signal.
@Arrow201: Could you please clarify approx where you are located (intersection)? You're coverage seems to be fairly solid, about 22 channels including 36.1. Also in which direction (if you have coordinates even more helpful) did you point you're DB8 to get 36.1?
Thanks
El Gran Chico 2011-10-21, 12:42 PM digigd, once it's outside, you should have no problem with CITS. Inside vs. outside have dramatically different results so if it will end up outside, I highly recommend you do any "proof of concept" outside as well if you possibly can. Just don't do it on a windy day if you are placing an antenna in a temporary location.
FWIW, I have no problem with the Hamilton stations but like you I tried with an antenna inside my house and had no luck in receiving it.
digigd 2011-10-21, 03:18 PM @El Gran Chico: Thanks for the tip. I will try it outdoor this weekend and really hope it tunes this time.
RustyHD 2011-10-21, 07:53 PM For CITS max. signal will be from 210 degrees. It's best to have your antenna above the peak of your roof to minimize signal loss from other houses, trees etc. You should have no problem receiving with DB8 outside.

I'm in Brampton at Bovaird and 410 hwy. Yes, i'm very happy with my attic install, very
solid :) Sorry i don't have exact co-ordinates, i spent about 20-30 min with a person at
the other end of the phone checking the signal strenghts of various channels until i got
what i felt was the best overall channels reception. I did however follow the advice
of Grace from SaveAndReply. Basically i started pointing towards Buffalo, picking up
channel 26. i then moved the DB8 east just until i lost 26. i'm not interested in this
channel, and helped me to increase signal strength of most of the other stations.
Biggy 2011-11-03, 02:21 AM Greetings,
Just notice Global 41.1 HD is now broadcast the same program on 41.2 SD in 480i resolution. Could be a prelude to other programming or it might be just like other stations similar to 29.1 HD and 29.2 SD.

If anybody is getting ION channels today in Mississauga , could you share with us what type of hardware set up you have , thanks.
I may have answer for you soon I am still collecting data from my new setup it is too early to see if all stations are stable include Ion. As I am waiting for all the leaves to fall and the cold weather conditions to settle in.
Natural99 2011-11-11, 02:43 PM hi all, newbie to ota here. i have attic mount cm4228 to some old "4 way 10db amplifier" i had laying around. i split it to 3 tvs around the house. i get the follow...
all the toronto station
2.1 - very weak
4.1
7.1
11.1 usually weak
17.1
29.1 usually weak
23.1
36.1
i just recently bought the cm7777 preamp hoping to stabilize those weaker channels but when i install it i end up losing everything. at first i thought i installed it wrong but i tried everything and still cant get a signal. is it possible i am overloading or is the pre-amp DOA? seems like a lot of people in the area use the cm7777 with cm4228 and it doesnt cause overloading.
locations: hwy 50 & Castlemore rd. Brampton

Biggy 2011-11-11, 04:44 PM Welcome Natural99,
First just reconnect your antenna directly to your TV check to make sure your getting some signal.
Assuming you followed the directions and you have it installed correctly. Then it sounds like your not getting power to your preamp, may have a bad connection check all your cable connections. If they are ok then check the power supply with DC volt meter if you have one, you should be getting at least 18 volts output. If not you might want to check your AC supply to it as well. If you have the correct supply voltages then it could be a faulty preamp.
Then I suggest you return it for a new power supply better yet just exchange it for a new PS and preamp.
Hope this helps a little!
bev fan 2011-11-18, 08:53 PM I am curious if anybody in Mississauga is receiving CKVR from Barrie using Clear Stream 5 VHF antenna or any other antenna , thanks.
