Sitting on the top of my DLP TV I was able to get CTV HD and CBC HD (although I'd have to move the antenna to different positions on top of the TV to catch either channel) using an amplified Jensen omni-directional antenna. I just recently got an LCD so I can't rest the antenna on top of the TV anymore. I have been able to get CBC by putting the antenna on the floor but I can't get CTV unless I put a chair beside my TV and rest it on top of the chair, which is something I don't want to do.

The room the TV is in is on the West side of the house (which is the wrong side) so the antenna does have to go through a few walls. I'm thinking about picking up an amplified Terk directional antenna and seeing how it performs. All I really care about is CBC and CTV.

Post #386 was for my setup in my bedroom. This was for my living room. I was able to pick up the Terk Amplified Indoor Antenna from Tiger Direct and I'm able to pick up CBC, CTV, The CW (WLNO) and OMNI2 with ease by placing the antenna behind my TV (which is in the middle of my house).

If I ran a wire through the basement I could probably put it in a way more advantageous part of the house against the wall facing the CN tower on top of my dining room showcase (where it probably wouldn't stand out either) and get a bunch more Toronto stations but I think I'm happy with the setup because I can also use my Xbox 360 to stream OTA HD channels from the PC in my bedroom.

My Antennae is mounted 22 feet up. Clone 8 bay. I have houses all around me but I had a line of sight south through my neighbours property. I'm going to change the antennae to something my more appealing to my wife. I was new to this but got real lucky.

I was able to get In addition to all the Toronto stations and CHCH 11, I got the following US Channels:
WGRZ HD, SD and that retro channel,
WUTV HD and SD
WNED HD SD and the AE.
WLNO.
WIVB HD (Carried The Superbowl)
WKBW

My Superbowl party was fantastic in HD and had the bonus US commercials. I watched it through my ATI 650 USB Combo tuner connected to my Laptop and then displayed it through my Optoma EP709 projector. It was projected onto a 100 diagonal screen.

I'm a convert !

Okay I'm happy with getting 20 channels, well almost happy
I'm in Brampton, in Heart Lake, Sandalwood and Kennedy area. On a hill.
When I'm on the roof, I have a very clear view of the CN Tower.

I have a 4224 on about 50 feet of cable with, I think, 2 splitters. No amps.
It up about 30 feet.
I got ION during the summer, not always, but enough of the time that I was very happy. My daughter loves 24 hour QUBO.

Is there anyone out there who is getting this station? PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR SET UP IS.

I'm almost getting ION. I get it almost all the time but it drops out too much to be watchable. I have a Sharp Aquos which requires >35% to get a solid lock. I get 35-40% signal with drops below 35%. I currently have a hacked CM4221HD with CM7778 preamp. In the spring I plan to stack another hacked CM4221HD with both aimed in the same direction to increase gain. If I can get 5-10% improvement, it will be solid most of the time. I'm also thinking of lower noise preamps, but if the signal's not there, the preamp will do nothing.

With me being a little farther north I may need to do a little more.
But you say you are getting ION in the winter?

Actually if you're further north in Mississauga, ironically things should be better than down here by the lake. You guys have an elevation advantage which should make things easier, provided you don't have any condos blocking your line-of-sight.

A tradeoff i guess. By the lake no tall buildings, but makes for a pain because WGRZ becomes 1edge (prone to droputs in the winter, but that's cause I don't have my preamp isntalled by the antenna yet), and WPXJ is alot harder. It's a warm-weather one for me only. I could probably get it year round if I ganged and tweaked my antennas, but climbing 30 feet in the dead of winter isn't an option. Ganging two 4221s (clones actually) makes me lose Toronto and Hamilton due to the directionality.

With the one 4221 I can get everything except ION. WGRZ flakey right now but that will be fixed come spring when I move the preamp. I am more than satisfied.

You can also try to build a custom-cut channel-23 yagi and mount it as high as you can :P

Yes, ION coming in 36% tonight. It is a weaker signal than summer but much more stable. For me ION is a 2edge signal, but the bigger problem is that they send their signal East and West and not North. It is very strong down towards Niagara. WGRZ is a 1edge signal, but I've never had a problem receiving. I have my antenna on a rotator aimed to maximize ION. Reception angle is very narrow, about 5 degrees. So if you're manually setting the antenna, you'll have a difficult time pin pointing the best signal. When I stack the antenna, I'm not worried about Toronto as I can rotate if necessary. After the DTV transition, these stations will be much stronger anyway.

I live north of Sandalwood. I have mounted my CH4221HD about 20 feet in the air, not of the roof, but over the porch. I am only getting 7 HD channels. The antenna is currently pointing towards south west. I am using a TIVAX to view the HD Channels. I have tried pointing it towoards the South East, but only got 4 channels.

Channels received
CBLT-DT 5-1
CHCH-DT 11-1
WNLO-HD 23-1
CBLFT-D 25-1
OMNI-2 44-1
CITY HD 57-1
OMNI 1 64-1

I think that I might have to go further up on the roof. If that is the case, then I will need someone to install it on the roof for me. Any other suggestions would be fantastic.
Thank you

The antenna is currently pointing towards south west... ...I have tried pointing it towoards the South East, but only got 4 channels. You've definitely got some strange signal bounce happening there! The rooftop mount at higher elevation should clear that up.

Great start!

Seems like you're pulling all the Canadian (Toronto/Hamilton) locals just fine with the exception of CITS 36.1 (RF35), which is a religious station in Hamilton. Looks like you're picking up the strongest Buffalo ones too.

You can pull about 26-ish channels from the GTA. If you can go for an outdoor/roof setup, with a 4-bay mesh UHF antenna like the ChannelMaster 4221, you can pick up the weaker Buffalo locals. They're well worth picking up too, as they're the majority of the US major networks :)

WGRZ 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 (NBC) RF33
WIVB 4.1 (CBS) RF39
WKBW 7.1 (ABC) RF38
WUTV 29.1, 29.2 (FOX) RF14
WNYO 49.1, 49.2 (MyTV) RF49

Quite possibly you can also get
WNYB 26.1, 26.2 (TCT) RF26, another religous station.

And if you're really really lucky.
WPXJ 51.1, 51.2, 51.3, 51.4 (ION) RF23

Ugh, sorry to double post, but now I have a question of my own:

I'm about to do some work on the tower/antenna today to resolve the flakyness of WGRZ lately, which means I'm going to move my 7777 closer to the antenna.

While I'm up there though, I was thinking about using the unused 4221 clone beside it to point to CKVR in barrie as a temporary solution until I can install my channel-3 dipole later this spring.

a.) Is it possible to stack the two antennas and combine them through the 7777? One antenna (the one I use for digital) will stay the same, but i will move the unused one on top and point it to Barrie.

(the one for ch3 through VHF, and the main one through combined) Or will that cause problems? I read the FAQ, but I was unsure about this specific method. Will it cause interference to the UHFs? Channel 3?

Don't forget the 7777 allows for separate VHF and UHF inputs. You'll just have to flip the switch inside the box (since I think the factory default is "combined"). You would connect your VHF-lo antenna to the VHF input and your current antenna to the UHF input (since everything around here - for now - is UHF) and it should work.

I'm not so sure how well a 4221 (clone or not) will work at pulling in CKVR but never hurts to try.
